Mini-jump escapes

Imagine you're crusing around in your Behemoth, mining to your heart's content, when a pirate group consisting of a beefy Prom and a pair of Rev C's jumps in and is bearing down on you. You do your best to outmaneuver them, but to no avail. Wouldn't you love a large-port item that could save your arse in a pinch (at the expense of all your energy and a lot of mass added to your ship)?

I'm thinking of a large port mini-jump thruster that almost instantly (maybe at a velocity of 600km/sec?) shoots the player either 500m (MKI, with a medium battery) or 750m (MKII with a large battery) in the direction he's presently moving. All his energy is drained, but he's got a head start on the enemy. The MKI and MKII variants would depend on the type of battery the player is using and would drain it accordingly. The extra boost just may give him enough time to get 3km out to make a jump to safety.

Thoughts?

I like the idea, because it takes up a large wep port, it does make the idea of using it offensively a little less likely, though I could see the rag becoming an even better missle spammer, seeing as it doesn't need energy, and getting infront of you with swarms and genimi is never fun

Yeah, it would make the rag awful to face. Maybe it could be a different battery instead - a battery that gave an extra huge boost when needed (like shift-tab or something). But it would have only a capacity of maybe 100 and 50 recharge (so it would be useful to traders, but not much else).

I can see flares going 500m/s 0_o

And it looks good :D

I like the idea but I am not sure how balanced it would be.

It could be very strategic for rocket users that is certain.

Charge in fire rockets and warp away. or warp right near soemone and drop a mine. Perhaps 250m might be a better choice since if he warps to far then there is no chance at stopping them but if it is within reason it could still be caught.

I only use that great a distance because I want the boost to put the player out of range of any fast attackers. A Rev C is more than capable of catching up to a Behemoth; a 500m head start may just give the brute a chance to save his arse. Also, keep in mind that effectively the use of turbo is cut off for a good 10 seconds while his battery recharges.

unless its a FC bat. then the moth has infiniboost....doesnt have to wait for full charge.

It's interesating, another thread has the opposite gist of this one. See:

"unless its a FC bat. then the moth has infiniboost....doesnt have to wait for full charge."

Nah . . . the Mk I and Mk II will require 450 and 550 energy to fire, respectively. If you ain't got it, it won't fire.

Wait... how about no? If you're cruising around in a Behemoth in gray space with no fighter escort, then that's your own problem if you get raided.

I don't like this idea. Pirating is hard enough already.

me says no

eh, it's actually not uber if it requires a heavy battery, but it would only be useful in very specific situations.

The Moth would have to charge up a heavy battery and then jump. at 500 m, the Rev C could close that distance in seconds, probably about 2.5-3 (if its going from a stop). Meanwhile, the battery recharges at 45/s to recharge a full 550... if the trader wants to use it again, he'll have to wait 12 seconds. If not, he has to try to accelerate up to full speed.

Furthermore, its not something you could use WHILE running. Since you'd never have a full charge.

I think the major problem with this, is that its useless. Behemoths can get away from a single fighter. And if you're taking a moth through an area where there are multiple fighters, then bring escort.
