dont tell us about any planned features

Mar 09, 2005 ananzi link
just release them quietly when they are done, without mentioning it. then someone would just be flying a long and
'oh my god, cap ship'.

no more news, no more in progress.

i dont know if this would work very well.... what would happen?

I like having it.

There are good and bad points to doing it.

Good being we know what it going on and we arent sitting here in the dark. It also promotes forum activity.

Bad thing is that if they cant do something planned people might become unhappy.

They may not be telling us everyhting as well. THere is a good chance that they are only telling us things that are sure to be done.

It's true, they don't tell us everything that they are working on. How many updates have included little extras here and there that were never mentioned before?

The ones with:
- /msg "[NPC] Gentu" mission and /msg "[NPC] Gentu" yes|no
- Racetracks/sectors 404 and 405
- Secret sectors
- Black Market
- etc.

Taking some quotes from changelogs?
* Ships get double damaged by own missiles
* New duel stats ranking
* When someone shoots you, they become a red blip on your radar until you or they leave the sector
* New trade mission
* Added /hail command
* New 2-D target box instead of 3-D target box
* Targeting another ship will display what type of ship it is
* Targeting crates will display what is in the crate

And these are just ones that I found cool and that I had no inkling of (no petitions for them, no mention in In Progress) before they were released.

Double Damage was discussed in IRC the night they released it... like ten minutes prior to its being added to the code.

... which, by the way, is a rework of something I think we used to have back in alpha. 3.0.x or 3.1.x, maybe?
