Auto-follow target

As is often discussed, CtC is dominated by hit-and-run tactics. Slowing down & increasing the armor of the transports has been suggested as one way to make hit-and-run less effective & encourage other tactics, and I fully support that suggestion. What I'm suggesting here is more intended to make hit-and-run more dangerous & exciting. IMO the main thing that makes hit-and-run rather boring & frustrating is that it's very easy to lose any pursuers by jumping empty sectors, and next to impossible to follow anyone through more than 2 or 3 jumps.

So, to make it a little easier to follow a runner, I think it would be nice if we could have an auto-follow toggle (controlled somewhat similar to the auto-aim toggle), that when activated would make it so if a targetted ship jumps close enough that its destination can be determined, the nav computer automatically clears any route & sets a jump to the same destination.

I think it would still be possible for players to jump empty sectors & lose any pursuit, but it wouldn't be nearly as easy as it is now.

yeah, i thought of this a week or so ago, and i still think it's a good idea.

if you really want a good way to track a runner, how about a homing beacon weapon? it would behave like an iceflare in terms of speed, mass and ammo, but it would do no damage and have no proximity effect. if you were to tag someone with the beacon, you and everyone in your group would be able to track that individual anywhere within the system for 10 minutes (5 minutes?), even within stations, and their location would show up on your nav map. you would only be able to have one homing beacon active at a time.

my main reason for having a "follow" function is actually related to allies. when trading it'd be really nice for convoys to be able to sync their jumps automatically, and make it possible to do jumps into empty sectors et al without the extreme hassel of exchanging navigation routes between several people.

oh well, it'd make me happy at least. and yeah, you have to be within 1000m of eachother to be able to make the jump. the issue would be to get everyone to 3K to jump, or everyone into the WH at the same time, but I'd like to see the follow-function actually jump the follower when the follower _can_ make the same jump.
