missile effects

I just thought it might be cool if the missiles left vapor trails as they flew. It can have some gameplay effects as well. It would be easier to dodge the missiles, since you could see them coming easier, and if there were enough of them flying around you, it could create a small smoke screen.

I also thought it might be cool if there were some way to impliment a blinding weapon of some kind. Like a mine, but it would let off a huge light that would make it harder for the person behind you to follow, or maybe some kind of missile counter measure like chaff.

Not something I'm really panting to see, but I thought it might be cool.

Can you have vapour in a vaccuum?

And I like the idea about the blinding mine

Like the Yellowjacket?

yeah... but who uses anything other than swarms?

and those don't even feel like you're dodging missiles.

Well Gemini are nice to have... A Centuar (light variant) with an AGT, a swarm, and a Gemini works nicely. I been using it over the Hog TD which is my favorite ship but this has proven to be much more entertaining and more effective.

If an commet can leave a trail why couldn't a missle? This would be really cool to see, my only worry would be putting even more stress on my video card.

john: completely different principals. Comet trails are simply dust and ice particles blown/melted off of the comet as it interacts with the solar wind. The particles get blown backwards by the wind, and reflect the sun's light, giving the illusion of a thick trail.

missile trails can be a variety of things: smoke, steam, etc (steam in the case of Liquid Hydrogen-Oxygen propellant). In space, where there is negligable atmospheric pressure, both any trail of steam or smoke thick enough to produce a visible trail would quickly dissipate, becoming invisible. At most, you'd have a very short trail.

But what the hey, this is a game! We can do whatever the heck we want! I think visible smoke trails would be very cool to see. I think it would add to the feeling that we're throwing deadly ordnance around, and it would make visual tracking of the warheads (both for the shooter and the target) a lot easier.

And while I'm here, I'm going to plug my missile suggestion thread:

To make more of the missiles (than just Geminis and Swarms) more useful in combat.

there is also no noise in space, and lasers would likely never become real weapons because people would just have shiny ships. but thats no fun, so we break the rules

The lasers could be plasma and not so much as aser lights which would mean reflective ships wouldn't really do the job. The sound effects were built into the ships for the sake of preventing boredom (I think that is a reasonable excuse then).

Lasers are not plasma. Laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stiumlated Emission of Radiation. Plasma is generally considered super-high energy state of matter.

Blinding light is already in space. If it weren't for our UV and radiation protection, we'd all be blind anyway. I agree, it's harder to fight when facing a bright star in system, but with radar and auto aim tracking, you can get through it no problem.

How about Radar interference mine instead. Like the concussion mine, only your radar blinks out for a split second and you loose target lock. As well as some visual effects like an explosion that rocks your ship. Nothing like the force of a concussion mine though.

"How about Radar interference mine instead"

This was sort of my idea with the chaff, something that can throw off the tracking systems and stuff, but I think it should affect everyone within a certain radius of the mine, otherwise the person launching the mines could just spam them and launch missiles into their opponent without fear of being killed.
