pirate ships and faction requirements.

thanks ArAsH. this is pretty much exactly what I'd like to see, make it so big heavy haulers want escorts. right now, traders are so safe in grey it's outright depressing. trading right now is pretty much risk free -- everywhere. yes, people get blown up in moths, but quite honestly, it's not up to the pirate to do the job, it's up to the trader to fsck up.

grey should be dangerous. when I first started playing I was scared of going into grey. even the short jump through Edras going from Itani to UiT space was something I dreaded in my Centaur. I loved the feeling of "running the risk", going to Bractus to shop a little. I'd like traders to still have this feeling.

VN commented this a long time ago and he was very right. I'd like to see _either_ infiboost go away for loaded ships (maybe make it so that drain increased with mass) or lower the max speed of trade ships based on mass. the last alternative is to zap infiboost in total, but with the current turbo boost of the moth, I'm not sure it'll help. at 190 it reaches 3K with ease and even 60 drain will only make you vulnerable for a brief period as your battery charges to jump.

add to this a pirate ship that _is_ a pirate vessel that people can fear since it both can catch you, kill you and take the cargo and I think we have a potential for making trade give people the chills now and then.

at 215, you probably won't catch yourself a moth. take 210N thrust at anything over 4000Kgs and you won't be even close to catching it. you have to get close to the moth and stay there for quite some time to do 45000 in damage to it.

for the record, the Sparrow (the best DPE S-port in the game) requires 3.5 full FC-batteries to kill a moth. an N3 requires just over 4 batteries.

I agree that grey space in a moth should be a challenging place which is why I suggested a corvus wraith. :)

If the thrust/speed isn't enough, up it. I still think 215 is a good top speed, compared to the 190 of the moth, and certainly the acceleration could be upped. I tend to think of it as a commerce raider. If you're in a fighter, you won't fear it. If you're in a moth/centaur, you should absolutely fear it.

when a Valk today has issues catching a moth before the moth reaches 3K, you'd have to make it quite a Wraith. :-)

Eh the Guardian wraith is already taken :). And the Corvus maud is already supposed to fill that role I think.

I think that we should both up the rewards for trading and mining in grey space, and at the same time make a ship fully capable of catching most traders.

(This will produce a very large population of pirates, creating a corresponding increase in pirate hunters, and turn it into less of the FBI vs Mafia situation we have now)

So here's my solution for the ship:

I think if we up the thrust of the corvus maud by a fair amount, but with a decrease in spin torque, it could accelerate incredibly well, being able to catch most ships, but against anything but a trader ship, it would be very tough to dogfight.

Dropping the armor and upping the cargo space might also be a nice way to give Pirate hunters a hope of killing these things.

how about this, make a decent corvus hauler ( something with good engines, reasonable cargo space, one weapon port ) for pickups, and fix the vult so its a truly frightening ship with no cargo space instead of the parapalegic with muscles spasms that it is now.
