unable to download patch

Ok, bought the box version, loaded it on my computer, and fired it up. Then the patch utility comes up. "Ok, here we go" I say to myself, and let it go to work downloading the patches. The first few went quickly. Then it got to the third one which wanted 7 hours to download. "Ok" I say, "lets see what we can do". I shut down every program I can, even turn of virus protection programs, and give the patcher high priority with task manager. My connection lasted only 6 hours. Now, I dont mind large patches but you cant maintain a dial up connection for 7 hours. If you can tell me how because access4less (and every tech I know and have asked) says it just isnt happening (something about the ip address expiring). Plus, the patch utility doesnt have a resume feature, so when my isp expires and renegotiates I am stuck with an uncompleted download that refuses to resume and leaves me unable to access the game. But I didnt stop there. I looked at the downlaod section of the site and right there in front of me was the full download for the game. So I figure I would try bittorrent since I know for a fact that has a resume feature. I go to bittorrent site and download the program, then go back to vendetta's download page and click on the first link. Unfortunately bittorrent wouldnt kick in, only windows downloader program would work. So I try the other links . . . same deal. I open my bittorrent program but that is no help since it wont let you tell it what to download. I know EVE has a seperate link just for bittorrent for people to click on in their download page. I dont know how you guys have yours set up but bittorrent will not kick in on your links. Now, I could conceivably download a speed download program and give that a try but I shouldnt have to. The patcher should be able live up to its advertisement of being dial up accessible. Plus I refuse to download the entire game over and over again every time an oversized patch is added. So I am stuck with a brand new box set of a game which is supposed to be dial up friendly that I am unable to play and, more importantly, unable to take back. Options? Ideas? Help?

Oh and just for the record, my connection speed is 53.2k so that isnt the issue.

First, you might want to break that up into paragraphs to make it a little easier to read ;D

Second, Alot of people have dial-up and havent had any problems with the downloader.

I myself dont have dial up so I cant help much, but maybe you could find out what the patches directly effect. and then have someone manually send you the file over some instant messenging program as a temporary solution

The biggest file for me is media.rlb which is somewhere around 111 MB. Maybe thats where the patches go?

Oh, and you might want to take this to the Bugs forum. I dont think it is a windows specific problem.

It is very rare that a patch requires a whole redownload. Also, the updater does support resuming downloads...

Well, I dont know whats going on with my copy of the game but every time my isp reconnects it just sits there mid download doing nothing. Its done it 5 times (call me persistant) so far. I let it sit once for three hours after redial just to see what it would do. It remained frozen. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game a few times, to no avail. I get the same problem every time.

Ok, we'll take a look at it.

How much data is it trying to download, and how much progress does it make? Does it get stuck?

The patch is about 10 megs starting from the version on the retail CD. With dialup, that would take about an hour.

The patch utility -does- have a resume feature. If it's not working, could you help me out and list the contents of your directory? (open up a cmd window, cd \program files\vendetta online and do a dir and copy/paste that)

Ok, had a computer knowledgeable friend come down and fiddle with it and he got the thing working. It kept wanting to download 111,000+ mb. Apparently it wasnt applying the patches properly and was trying to get the whole game. Seems to be working ok now though. Thanks to the developers for the quick response. I'll see ya'll in the game (finally) :)
