I also did another background (along with a couple other minor changes) before I saw Lemming's... not sure which I like better. I'll post a new version in a few hours; his instructions should still work with that one to replace the background.

Here is the widget, version 1.1:

http://www.watzmanassociates.com/josh/programming/downloads/VendettaPlayers-1.1.wdgt.tgz

It's several times bigger than the old one (but it's still only about 280k; version 1.0 was 40k) due to the new background image.

Changes since 1.0:
- Now tells you that it's loading data when you first start it up
- New background image, with the forum planet background
- Changed the colors around a bit so they look better on the new background
- Attempted to fix an intermittent bug where the perl script to get the data from the web site would do so, but somehow not pass it on to the widget. When the bug hit, the widget would sit with the data area blank (or with 1.1 just have the loading text) and eat 100% of the processor until you took it off the Dashboard. The fix makes the loading/updating take around 1 second longer.

Cool widget, but not really practical when there's a lot of players online. t'would be cool if the text was a lot smaller, or even better, customizable.

Good job though. :)

Edit: Oh...wait...seems to be taking 55% of my CPU time... ¬_¬

I'm just using the "Active Players" HTML for the text sizes etc. You could probably write a s/// line in the perl script or make an addendum to the CSS if you want to change it.

As for the excessive CPU usage, that's the problem I thought I fixed in 1.1; I haven't seen it again. Seems to happen when the widget keeps trying to get the data from the perl script (which gets the data from the website) but the script should have already sent the data.

Try closing the widget instance and making a new one in Dashboard.

I'd like to see it sorted in columns for the three nations.
