I wanna know if more games will be written for the intel macs since it's an intel chip now... will it be easier to port since it's an intel, or is it all still mac inside???

It's hilarious how it never occurs to people that they can just go out and buy a $20 three button roller mouse to use with their Mac.

Hardware doesn't make much of a difference. That's why Apple was able to make the transition work in the first place. Publishers are mostly to blame for the lack of games on the Mac. It really isn't that difficult to write a game that would be trivial to port, but publishers don't care and don't want to pay for it.

Actually, to quote (or paraphrase) jobs....

The new intel chips allow the whole process of porting amzingly enhanced ease. Instead of have to recode thousands of lines of code, they now only have to redo dozens. Which in a purely economical sense, equates to money in the bank, and ease for those lazy ass game porters.

I would bet on there being more games (if not almost all) in the very near future.....

I agree. I've tried porting stuff before, and it's a gigantic pain, because of endian issues (how intergers are handled and the like). This should fix that, or at least massively reduce the pain in porting.

The difference between OpenGL and DirectX is a much larger problem, though. At least for games, they've only reduced a tiny fraction of the problems involved in porting. Yes, endianness is annoying. But since 99% of Windows games are DirectX-based, and there is (thank goodness!) no DirectX for Mac, that's the biggest problem.

Well people have to use XCode on the mac and they simply (more or less) "save as" universal binary and voila there is your intel/powepc app. Well that is if they did the app in xcode to being with of course, otherwise they will have to import and tweak and work it alot. Anyway thats what Steve said last year. No more Codewarrior.
