A couple of questions from a NewBie

May 22, 2006 Zed1985 link
Hey everyone, I just loaded vendetta and want to try this game but I have a couple of questions before I actually pay for it (I did try to look for them but was a bit lost on all the forums so sorry if I repeat some of them)

1) When is Vendetta Universation coming out? (I have the MacBookPro 2.0GHz)
2) Are the guys on the PCs and Linuxes on the same actual servers as the guys with macs? (I have both a PC and a Mac and use both that's why I want to know)
3) Will vendetta run on my old G4Titanium (867Mhz 768 Mb of Ram 32Mg video card)
4) This one is for the guys that play the game: If you have played WoW or UO how high would you rate the game against those two? (I know it's a different genre but I want to get a bit of an idea)

Thx in advance for your help

1) The universal binary should already work on the MacBook Pro, it just doesn't work on the regular MacBook or the mac Mini because of their Intel GMA950 graphics adapter chip of doom. For the MacBook Pro with its ATi Radeon X1600, you should be fine.

2) Yes

3) It runs on my 867MHz 640MB RAM PowerBook G4, so it should run on yours with the extra RAM

4) Um. Vendetta > /.*/

Thx :)

Except I don't get the answer to number 4

3) I played the game on a 233MHz G3 for a while. It runs on your computers. :)
4) Vendetta is the only MMO I ever got addicted to. 40+ days of online time... (no, not counting the various bots...)

hmm, its really hard to compare WoW with VO.

at the moment there arent anywhere near as many players online in the VO universe as there are with WoW, so this can take a little getting used to. the players who are on usually congregate in the same areas (deneb, sedina) so once you start getting into the pvp aspect of things you can head out there.

WoW has more kinds of environments and npc enemies, but i dont feel that this makes it a better game. more things are being added to VO all the time, so theres always something to do. if you get bored of killing npcs then you can do pvp or take part in races or tournaments.

the grouping and guild system in VO doesnt seem to be as polished as in WoW, so if youre coming from that game itll probably take a little time to get used to. also, the interface isnt quite as point and click as WoW, relying more on the keyboard.

erm.. what else..
combat in VO is more skill based. once you get past the first combat training mission its not just 'sit there and hit a key until the target dies' anymore. this makes it much more challenging than WoW once you get into the fights, but also more fun.

missions. WoW has way way more quests to do and you can take more than one at a time, unlike VO, but since theres more skill involved in doing many things in VO this isnt a problem. youll get all your missions from whichever station youre docked at, there are no wandering npcs who ask you for your help to deliver some goods or anything like that.

i think more missions outside stations could really benefit this game for beginners, but as it is now its entertaining and challenging and very different to many rpgs. the only way to know if youll enjoy it in the long run is to pay, but the developers really do deserve your money for what theyve managed to create. i just signed up a few days ago and im enjoying it immensely, but im still only on a 1 month plan incase its not for me in the long run. $10 is nothing, you could make that begging on the street, so give the 1 month sub a try and see how you feel after that :)

Compared to WoW, which is a polished, finished, commercial game with hundreds if not thousands of people working on it, V-O is quite the fun bargain.

I've played WoW at a friend's place, and It seemed a lot like playing normal Warcraft III(which I hate). Except that there were thousands of other players online at that time.

I think that WoW tends to approximate a "real" virtual society more, but it only does that through its large playerbase.

There's MUCH more to do in WoW. That's a given. When you have moderated events, hundreds of quests, etc etc, you'll never be at a loss of things to DO in WoW.

In Vendetta, there's DEFINITELY a lack of content, and the only remedy for that is for Guild Software to start creating content. The mission editor is apparently done enough to be usable, so new content should be coming fast and furious as soon as the developers finish up a few more things with the UI and the new ships and the new economy and crafting and and and....

In reality, Vendetta-Online as it stands right NOW is still kind of like Space-Quake, but with cool options, a big empty universe to fly around in, and ways to make money by mining and trading.

V-O does need something to tie it all together, and I think that will be crafting. Once you have to gather your OWN resources and can make your OWN stuff, the economy, trading & mining will all fall into place, and there will be a REASON to corner the market in Lanthanic Ore, or to stockpile vismetal to make your capship.

Also I think that the game lacks "skills" with only 5 different licenses... even if you add crafting. I think that eventually they will have to limit the number of licences you can have. And that you will have to choose in what you specialise.
A bit UO style with the 700 total skill cap.
Because one of the problems I can see in VO is that we can have what 6 chars? and we really need 3 (one of each country)

Vendetta isn't about pigeonholing, it's not about specialization. The license requirements don't work like thise in other games, so limiting your total licenses would be rather contrary to the way things are.
