When logging in I get an error message that says "protocol version does not match server". How can I fix this?

I suspect that you are openning the program using the "Recent Applications" menu. This opens the "Vendetta Client" program directly, instead of the "Vendetta Updater".
The package that you dragged over to "/Users/{you}/Applications", "Vendetta", is actually the "Vendetta Updater" program. Located inside the "Vendetta" package is a second program, "Vendetta Client", which is the program that you use to play the game.
To stop this error, you need to open "Vendetta", rather than "Vendetta Client" to run the updater. After this your existing entry in "Recent Applications" menu will again work.
Please note that if you continue to use "Recent Applications" to open the game, then (1) you will not be notified at all of server only updates and, (2) you will need to repeat this process every time there is a client side update. Other than this, there is no harm to continuing that practise.

Hmm. More likely -- another possibility is that you do not have write access where you installed Vendetta -- ie, if you installed it in "/Applications/". This is discussed in greater detail in http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/5/18882
If this is the problem, then I suggest to move "Vendetta" to "/Users/{you}/Applications.

This write access problem seems to turn up a lot. Please consider:
(1) to change the ReadMe notes to explicitely advise to install Vendetta to ~/Applications.
(2) to sticky the other (more informatively named) thread. Or establish a new sticky thread that summarises these advices.

I have tried to do that. Everytime i try to open up the vendetta itself ..the update starts and then it says it's updating to Vendetta-1.8.762..., then it says something about not being able to open file Vend50e9.pch and it says aborting! and that's it if i go specifically to the client itself and open the game through, it opens to th elog in key, i log in, and then it say s'protocol does not match server' ...so i'm like it's suppose to be updating i think...and it doesn't update for some reason...and then of course if i try to sign onto the server, it wont recognize it cause the server uses the latest version. So how do i update when i keep gettin gtha tmessge everytime i do so?
