Client wont connect

Sep 06, 2004 Laika link
I just can log in 1 out of 100 times. Usually, I have around 50 tries with the client, and 49 times I get the message "Connection error - Unable to connect to the Guild Software update server! Please re-run the application and retry."
Ok, no joke, at least a dozen times, sometimes it feels like hundreds, usually I give up after 20 minutes. Sometimes, with luck, it starts the application. I try to logg in and... nothing. Unable to connect.

So, with luck, I'm able to play once in 1-2 days, and if the client crashes, yep, same procedure, forget the fight or cargo for the next hours days.
This gets really annoying, I'm sorry this is the first time I mention it, but I've had it for months (haven't played much).

System is a G4 MDD 1.25 Ghz, 768MB RAM, ATI R9kPro. Latest system software and stuff, absolutely stable system, My internet connection (2Mbit DSL) is absolutely stable, no problems with other servers. No Firewall or other network software active (used the built in Firewall, but tried to turn it off, no change).

Oh, Permissions repaired, system cleaned up, even tried a new user account.

Edit: Woops, I just could log in after hours of trying...

Forgot: Yes, I downloaded and reinstalled a clean Vendetta. Same problem.

Whoa... I was on before with the latest client, now I'm getting that error message. I assume perhaps the update server is unreachable, though it would be VERY nice to:

1. Know what the IP is so that we could check the connectivity via a ping or something

2. Be able to retry without rerunning the app!

I'll reinstall and try again...

Heh. Found the server in another thread:

majikthise.guildsoftware.com

I resinstalled the client. It updated just fine. I re-setup my graphics options, turned shaders on so I had to restart the client. Almost every try after that I get the could-not-connect message. The one time the client DID run, I couldn't login.

Ping and traceroutes of that server yield unknown host errors 90% of the time...

Very odd.

No problems at this end as far as I know, but I'm not the network guy.
