Something screwy in the latest update ?

Nov 16, 2004 Setanta link
iMac G4 1,24GHz, GeForce FX5200 Ultra 64Mb, OS X 10.3.6...

Up until now thing have been sweet - the odd glitch but nothing to worry me. However, since the last update...

Almost every time I fire a weapon the game freezes for a second or so, then comes back with the weapon stuck firing repeatedly. From then on it freezes momentarily over and over again until either I kill my opponent or I'm killed myself. At times I can control the length of the freeze by holding and releasing the left mouse button (it lasts as long as the button is held down). Afterward I also get a ghost image of the standard Mac pointer following the VO pointer, though it doesn't seem to interfere with anything.

It's happening with various alts with different ships in different places, and rebooting, changing the mouse etc. seems to have no effect. Any ideas ?

1 monitor? What is your desktop resolution and what is the resolution VO is at?

Single monitor, 1440 x 900 resolution for both desktop and VO.

Switching to 1024x768 for both alleviates the problem somewhat but it is still there.

Trying to run in a window causes an immediate freeze.

I've tried various combinations of graphics settings etc. now and the problem seems to occur on them all.

OK, I have a mac 5200. I'll have to put it in a machine and see if there's a problem with it.

Just tried a third mouse, and that seems to have done the trick (though I've only tried it briefly).

My guess is that the changes to the mouse driver have broken support for mice with some third party drivers on the Mac. I usually use a WACOM tablet mouse, which is now non functional as described above. A Contour Unimouse also showed the same problems. However, reverting to the standard Mac mouse seems to be working. Previously the WACOM mouse was working fine, including all buttons and scroll wheel. I'll uninstall the Contour drivers at some stage in the near future and see if the contour mouse works off the standard drivers (It should do - though the contour drivers add functionality).

Setanta, hmm. interesting. We have a wacom tablet here. I'll try it.

xylic2004: What does VO do when you run it?

Just a note to confirm that things are absolutely fine with a standard one button mouse for me.

Incidentally, the WACOM tablet has a couple of possible drivers available. The version I have installs under system preferences (version 4.7.9-2). IIRC the alternative version installs a separate application to set the tablet up.

The Vendetta Update Utility comes up.... Says 'Update Complete'... when I press the play Game button, screen goes black and the machine hangs....

1.12 worked like a charm with identical settings :(

Maybe unrelated BUT... with this update i had to change my VO screen settings to the same as my desktop.
Used to run 800x600 in VO full screen now 1152X870 same as monitor.
If i dont the right hand side of all the menus is off screen. Way off screen, like i cant even see the jump button!!

Black Omega: you only have 1 monitor? regular CRT? Maybe the refresh rate is different and you have to readjust the centering on the monitor itself.

xylic2004: when it does that, can you submit a bug report via the bug report program that's inside the VendettaOnline bundle?
That will send me additional files that VO created.

Yaa only the one CRT monitor. Was ok with last version.

I changed the fullscreen mode and it handles refresh-rates differently. I think that's the problem. You can edit the config.ini file to change your default refresh-rate. I think the option is called def_freq. It defaults to 0 but you can change it to 60 for 60Hz or 75 or whatever you want. See if changing it will help.

Yup changed it to 75 (same a monitor rate) and yipeeee!! its ok again.
Much easier on the eye :)

Just a quick note to say I've now managed to recreate the same sort of problem with a single button mouse (though only once and very briefly). I was in the middle of editing a chat message when I was attacked and when I tried to take control of the ship I got the same symptoms as listed above. However, this time it cleared up almost immediately
