poor station FPS with X800

Jan 25, 2005 dargon link
Hello,

I'm getting poor station FPS with my ATI X800 on a Dual G5 power mac 1.8 Ghz. Some stations give me 50 or 60 fps.. some give me a whole 13! I'm using shaders and full scene glow with 1680 x 1050 resolution (wide screen). The X800 is supposed to be the fastest video card on the market for the Mac right now, so I'm a bit disappointed in VO performance.

Any suggestions?

Also, I tried Solra's suggestions in the previous post about station lag but that actually lowers FPS.

Thanks!

What happens if you temporarily turn off shaders? Does the FPS go much higher? We have radeon 9800 pro and I haven't really found any major slowdowns like that.
What version of the OS? 10.3.7? 10.3.6? etc...

These are the different things I would try changing in different combinations to see which is the mose performance enhancing:
Turn on/off shaders (also affects glow)
Turn on/off just glow
increase/decrease texture resolution
increase/decrease screen resolution

If you can tell me which one(s) give the most speed boost in the 13FPS place, I could help try to determine what to do to fix/lessen the problem.

Also, for the 13fps station, which one and where approximately is your ship? I can see if it's an issue here, too.

Turning off VBOs will generally only improve performance if the issue is VRAM thrashing, or when VBOs are not properly supported.
How much VRAM does your X800 have?

It's the full screen glow that mucks it up. Turn that off and you'll be fine
