Running VO from Opensuse

Dec 06, 2009 Death Fluffy link
K. I solved my sound issue by switching OS's. I first moved to Mandriva and then decided to duel boot with Opensuse. However, upon installing VO on Opensuse, it would not run and for some reason it seems to think it should be opened with the Autorun prompt.

Suggestions please?

Ok. VO runs like crap for me on Opensuse. I think it has to do with a sound issue, possibly a conflict between VO and gnome or something, because it appears to be running just fine on my KDE version of Madriva. Anyway, here's the error log.

This is the first indicator that VO is running poorly:
Warning: GLX context is not Direct.

Try to solve that problem and VO should run better. It may be a problem with your WM. We've seen previous WMs have that problem, mainly ones that allowed 3d rotation of the different virtual desktops on sides of a cube.

Errrr... I believe that I completely and utterly qualify for the Dumbass of the Day award here. Certainly I should be listed amongst the Darwin awards for stupidity even if I'm not quite dead.

It would appear that my problems in suse stemmed from not having an nvidia driver installed.

As to the crap desktop effects, I now wonder if that was my problem on ubuntu 9.1. I just made the assumption that because I had them turned off on 9.04 that by doing a fresh install after problems with the upgrade that the desktop effects had ceased to exist. Ah well, water under the bridge.
