full screen switching

Apr 11, 2010 Sharrukin link
I have a problem with the full screen mode. The game runs fine in full screen, the problem is when I switch to window mode and back.
At the moment I am switching with alt+enter. When I go back to full screen the task bar remains on the top. I have to change resolution to anything then back to my preferred resolution(1400x900) to get it off.
Does anyone know a fix to this? Or a better way to minimize the full screen. I never play in window mode, just use it to do other things.
I am running Ubuntu 9.1

I've got the same thing running Debian with gnome, I am not convinced its something the devs can fix though. My guess is they submit a request for full screen at x,y resolution to the x server and that's about all the choice they get.

You may want to submit a bug report to Ubuntu

Hi,

I just made a few tests, and noticed same problem to me. Game continue running, beeping, but its gone from WM.

But on my Mandriva 2010/AMD64/Nvidia it only happens when I use the windowed mode with same resolution as desktop. For me, windowed 1680x1050 if I switch window/full/window/crash! While using windowed mode smaller than that (I like 1280x960) it does not crash even switching 10x...

Window mode I Have similar problems.

Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit.

I really don't have Window Mode Completely when using the same resolution as my desktop.

What happens is that the screen will be windowed, but when moving the mouse around the screen I cannot access the full screen.

I suspect a programming bug or problem here.

In other wards lets say Vendetta starts in the window.
Then I cannot take the mouse all the way down to the Connect button. It prematurely moves to the desktop window about 2 inches before the edge of the actual vendetta window.

Now if I switch desktop resolution to: 1280 x 1024 then I can play vendetta in 1024 x 768 which will be a much smaller window and if I enlarge the window it will enlarge but the vendetta screen will still remain small so no effect.

Third if I mess around with desktop setting vs vendetta video options I can get a better effect, however mostly when trying to play the game in the same resolution as the desktop I cannot access the full screen because the mouse prematurely moves to the desktop so I sometimes can't even exit the game.

If I go full screen that works mostly to match desktop resolution but also if there is a lockup of the computer I then can't close the game so I have to restart the computer because the full screen won't let me access anything.

and alt+enter does not allow me to change back to window mode when resolutions match in the game and the desktop.

Annoying I must say but still playable.

I'm not sure what to do about it or how to proceed.

For now I just set desktop resolution to 1280 x 1024 and play the game to match which is the only resolution I can play which in windowed mode that shows me a playable larger screen in the window and the mouse functions to the edge of the screen as it should.

So if it locks up I can at least kill the game and continue to use the computer or restart the game.

Should I report a bug or is this considered a bug ?

Please advise

Thanks

not a fix but a possible workaround:

im not really familiar with gnome anymore. but there should be a way to let applications cover the panel. probably right click on panel and goto settings.
