That "frequency out of range" is your monitor telling you that it can't display the video signal your video card is sending it.

You can edit the config.ini file in ~/.vendetta to tell VO to run in a window or at a different resolution.

Best of luck!

Yes, Go to your folder where .vendetta is. (.) means is hidden
So you have to hit ctrl+h to unhide the folder

Then go into the folder and open the config.ini file
You can right click it and open with text editor

Then change the lines where you see:
xres
yres

Set them to something lower then the resolution you have set for your computer
If you set your Nvidia configuration to 1024x768 try setting it to 1280 x 1024
Then after you get your card configured a little higher then your game settings

Set these to
xres = 1024
yres = 768

Or perhaps
xres = 1280
yres = 960

Or even
xres = 800
yres = 600

Then save the file and exit

You may have to toy with these combinations a little to get things going right.
But anyhow you have to make sure the game settings are not higher then your Nvidia setup.

I didn't have to worry so much about this in full window mode
But in windowed mode I most definitely had to tweek it a little

Post back your results

I'm having the same "frequency out of range" problem. Initially, my config.ini file had no yres, xres options listed, so I added them. No luck. Here it is, as it was originally:

[refgl]
version=3
illummap=1
envmap=1
bumpmap=1
tc=1
aa_mode=0
minfilter=9987
maxfilter=9729
specular=1
windowmode=0
textureresolution=1
texturequality=32
gamma=8
def_freq=0
tfactor_hack=0
doshaders=1
shaderversion=3
xf86vidmode=1
dovertexbuffers=1
doindexbuffers=1
do_compiled_vertex_array=1
do_env_combine=1
do_extensions=1
vbl=0
normalizenormalmaps=0

[Vendetta]
version=3
maxframerate=120
sensorsort=4
firsttime=0

I added the xres and yres options at the beginning. Any ideas?

If it is a new install you can also just delete the .ini file and VO will create a new one

Tried that. No luck. Maybe this will help...

Almost a month later, and I've yet to find a solution. C'mon guys, a little help here?

Try hitting alt-enter when you get the out of sync message. That should switch the game into window mode. Then you should be able to choose a different resolution fom the options menu and go back to fullscreen mode.

If alt-enter doesn't work try changing windowmode in the config file to 1.

.. and if that still doesn't work set xf86vidmode to 0. That should prevent the game from messing with the screen, but disables fullscreen mode.
