Full Screen vs Windowed mode Ubuntu Linux Unity etc.

For those who may have trouble playing the game in full screen mode
and unable to minimize or switch workspaces with the alt+s or alt+w feature of Ubuntu

The default Ubuntu installation with Unity will not let you set the game to full screen mode and allow you to minimize nor switch workspaces at the same time
Thus making the shortcuts like alt+tab, or alt+s useless (annoying)

Lets fix that:
-Go to Ubuntu Software Center and install CompizConfigs-settings-manager
-Once installed simply go to your dash panel type compiz and you will see the app for compizconfigs settings manager
-In the app go to Utilities then click Workarounds
-Check mark the option for Legacy Full Screen Support
-Then back or close the app
-Run Vendetta and set (Video) to Windowed (but it will play full screen don't worry)

So now you will have full screen Vendetta with the ability to switch workspaces with alt+s

OH but wait 13.04 has workspaces disabled by default so you better turn that on too

-Dash panel menu to the left and click System Settings icon
-Then Click Appearance
-then click the Behavior Tab
-then check mark (enable workspaces)
-While your at it you might want to autohide the launcher = on

Now you have full screen mode and can switch workspaces and windows with alt+s or alt+w.
BOOM check it out.

I hope this helps, I know you'll love it this way

Updated:
13.10 workspaces and launcher are already setup this way by default

Thanks Captain!! It was really annoying especially if I had to check something on the internet. This should be a sticky! Great walk through (:

The game also has an ALT+Enter shortcut to switch between full screen and windowed on the fly.

As a recent convert to Ubuntu, I love the advantages over Mac OSX

One thing about Ubuntu and using ALT+Enter as mentioned above is that vendetta does not like to show all the graphics in windowed mode; and some of the of the top or bottom gets cut if you don't enable that legacy that I mentioned above.
I am quit sure it's Unity causeing that because Ubuntu with alternate GUI doesn't do that.

With the instructions above this will always appear as full mode but all the features of windowed mode entacted as well just fyi.

not sure if there have been updates to this in linux but I've been using this method for a while now and works great.
This is an awesome feature in Linux.

alt and enter gets me to windowed mode and depending on the mood of the computer's internal skynet, it will run either very great or very poorly. I can't click on the bottom 300-400 px either. It stops just above "Launch" and the desktop environment will grab the mouse. Upon switching back to full screen, I lose all keyboard functions, can only see what is going on, and have partial mouse control (only buttons).

None of the workarounds mentioned here work. :(
