Vendetta screwed up my resolution

Apr 08, 2020 strelock link
I tried to play vendetta for the first time today and when opening it my screens went black and said out of range. I could hear some music and voices in the background. After pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot the PC, I have found that my resolution is now permanently changed to whatever crap the game tried to use. Great job guys. I now have to fix my PC because I tried to open a game. I've searched the forums for this issue and it seems that people have been having resolution issues with this game going all the way back to at least 2010. I understand I can fix Vendetta through an ini file edit, but at this point I shouldn't have to for something that is still actively developed. There should at least be a config screen or something asking which resolution to use if the game can't figure it out on it''s own. I'm running Arch with the Plasma desktop on XOrg. Nothing too weird here.

I don't see how that would happen. The game doesn't edit your Xorg configuration files, so it shouldn't be causing any changes that persist beyond a reboot. Sounds more like you've got something screwy going on on your end, like maybe a daemon that monitors your current resolution and writes it to the configs to make temporary changes permanent.

I don't know what caused it but it definitely happened. I had to delete ~/.local/kscreens/ to get it to work. I did look at the files in the folder and they all showed the correct resolution etc.

I agree though the game shouldn't have caused this but my point still stands. It would be easy enough to ask the user what mode they want the game to run in on the launcher screen.

I had issues today where the game would crash if I tried to adjust my resolution within the GUI. I ended up having to tweak the config.ini and set windowmode=1

After that, I was able to adjust the resolution from within the game itself.

These are my preliminary findings and it seems that I can't get higher than 1920x1080x24 and window mode isn't so great but at least it doesn't look as bad.

I had a possibly-related issue. I have dual monitors and VO changed from Extend to Duplicate.
I've submitted this separately but wanted to post here: as a possibly-related issue may have a shared solution.

I'm having the same initial issue. Rebooting the computer brought me back to normal though. I just installed the game and the first boot the screen went black and gave me the out of range error. My resolution is set to 2560X1440 on the desktop.
