Crap, I missed the fun again. Stupid RL getting the way. I want more battles please!

Hehe 1.5 mil and access to the IA forums will get me in as Itani commander. >:)

No, I'm just kidding I would be the one guy that hunted down Dark Tide for the rest of his life for running all my great plans if I was commander. ;)

Good luck with the forums thing, Borb. But I'm thinking we let the Serco hire you next time. I need some easy PK's...

/me runs and hides...

And HEY, I'm the BorbPimp! You want the Borb, gotta go thru me. I'm takin' 10% off the top.
May 09, 2005 JestatisBess link
First I would like to thank Borb and LeberMac for there support.

LeberMac: I like being Supreme Commander of the Itani forces. I’m an ok follower but I’m a great leader. I will continue with both roles as long as I’m able and effective. Or until the Itani overthrow me.

Borb: I love having you on our side and in Skype. You are the perfect group leader. It was an honor serving with you. You are going to be an asset when you join the real military. (To bad deep down inside you are Serco.)

I agree with LeberMac though, the Serco need your services (and I guess thumblemonster too) more then we do. I hope you can get a Serco to pay you. Maybe you should offer them a discount even though I sure they can afford you.

CP: I’m not going to debate the validity of my action to you. I acted honorably and responsibly. I did the right thing as event coordinator and as Supreme Commander. I don’t think those two jobs are mutually exclusive. But, if you and the majority of the Serco think I did something wrong as event coordinator, I will step down and let someone else plan the next battles. I want these battles to be fun for all. And I also don’t want the Serco to think I, as event coordinator, am biased in any way. I await your decision on this matter.

Let’s get back on topic people, the next battle. Most of you have said that this should be a weekly event. Most of you have also said that you like the 2nd week’s rules better then the first. If this trend continues I’ll post the new battle in the role playing forums latter this week.

Please continue to make suggestions about the future cap ship rules.

I vote for weekly battles, with the first rules (all in B8).
May 09, 2005 bojansplash link
I agree with Sun, first cap battle with all ships in B8 was better than this one.
Also a suggestion for new rules: ban all homers and swarms.
Its no fun this way, a fleet of rags with swarms kills capship in a matter of few secs.
And defending/attacking as it is now is just matter of who have the numbers and more swarms.
I would also like to see more honour in battle on all sides. Swarm and run doesnt do it for me. Stay and fight dammit.

We have to do it again.

There was blaster fire, rockets, plasma, explosions, everything comming from every direction. It was better than star wars. If VO has events like this consistantly, Devs'll have NO problem selling this game. just watching an event like that is spine-chilling.

I'm willing to help out as a judge/referee if you need someone more neutral.

So... Bottom Line... When is the next battle? :)

This was the greatest! I have NEVER seen such comradery. It was truely a universal event (no matter what the rules).

Sign me up for the next one.

The winners of each cap ship battle were clear. No one can dispute those facts. The Itani and UIT, respectively, lasted longest.

The only disputed point (and only by CrippledPidgeon so far) is my waiting 6min to publicly declare the Itani cap ship dead. I was not with the ship, I had to get confirmation of it death before announcing it. I personally don’t think 6min was a long time considering that the actual battle started 18min later.

Even with another event coordinator, how long would it take them to be notified of a cap ship death? If the Serco cap ship died would they immediately report it on 100? Or would it take them a couple of minutes to confirm it before reporting it to the event coordinator. Or might they use it as a tactical advantage and not report it at all.

CrippledPidgeon said:
“Jestatis: do you realize how far a person can get in 6 minutes? A player with a decently quick connection can get from Edras to Odia in 6 minutes.”

I think CP made my case for me. They had 18 min to get to their cap ship once they learned the news. You should be able to get from Edras to Ukari in that time.

I have one question for the Serco though. What were you doing at Edras I2 in the first place? The Itani ship was supposed to get to Pelatus K-15 before the battle started. I’m not accusing you of anything I was just wondering.

There are going to be more and more player sponsored events in the game. If you check out the role playing forums you can see more events planned. I want to encourage that, we need more content in this game. Most of us are bored most of the time. So like I said before if you think I can’t be trusted please say so now (or forever hold your peace).

Obsidian: I would be great to have another guide helping out. And if I’m asked to step down you can replace me as event coordinator.

sarahanne: I would love to give money to all the players but it’s not possible. To get the 2 million dollar prize money I have to trade and mine most of my time in game. I also get a lot of help from my guild members. I started this event and I don’t mind paying the prize money even if we keep this up for the next 6 months, but eventually I’m going to run out of time to make the money and run out of friends too. I suggest a guide donate the money. Maybe: 2mil = 1st place, 1mil = 2nd place and 500k=3rd place. That way all participants can get some credits for the next week’s event.

dbr066: A date for the next battle hasn’t been decided yet. If we do have one this week it will be the same day and time of last weeks battle. I’ll post the rules by Wednesday if we are gonna have a battle this week.

As always you comments and suggestions are welcome. Especially any new players that participated. To learn more about what we’re talking about please check out the following 2 links:

BTW: Sorry my posts are so long. I guess I just have a lot to say :)

EDIT: I think we should do the battles every week. But i also think week should alternate rules just to make sure it doesn't get stale. One week in B8 and one week in grey.

sarahanne wrote: "Also if a capship doesn't spawn in a Capitol can it really be called a Capship?"

Perhaps not with a capital "C." But, yeah, a "capital ship" is typically a major ship in a naval fleet -- regardless from what shipyard it originated. :-D

I enjoyed the B8 battle a little more (with the exception of waiting more than an hour for the Sola, which can't be helped), but both were lots of fun, with more going on than you can properly keep track of. Jestasis has done a great job organizing these battles, they are huge events that are really the sort of thing that VO is all about.

That said, I share other Serco pilots frustration with the numbers being so overwhelming. It isn't a matter of organization, there simply aren't as many Serco. The only solution is to encourage more people to be Serco; when I got two of my friends to try VO, they both went Itani at first, but I got them to go Red. It has been said that most Itani online are noobs, but noobs become regulars and vets, and they do participate in events like this (honestly, who wouldn't want to?). So, tell everyone you know to come fly for Serco!

The battles are great, even if we lose every time (we'll win soon, just you wait). I'll do this every weekend I can, and I agree we can switch between the two types to keep it interesting. As far as making it better, I think it would be more interesting we could reload at the frigate instead of jumping to a nearby station. It would be exciting to have to fly back to the frig through the battle to reload instead of just turboing out to 3k.

I look forward to seeing the Protaris, Sola and Zelor on Saturday!

hmm I'll see if I can get Permission for guides to give out the money and XP to all participants.

However, that may require that players formally register with a leader in each nation so actual participants will get rewarded, and not just any UIT, Itani or Serco that wonders into Sedina with a handout.

I’m thinking that this is turning into something that could be permanent with more structure like CtC. I’m glad I could help add some permanent content to this game.

I post a draft of the 2 scenarios within 24 hours. We’ll use each scenario every other week to make sure no one gets bored. After the final rules are set there will no longer be any changes week to week. This way it’ll be more like CtC. And like sarahanne said you can choose to participate or not, but new players can get some extra content.

“Either that, or there must be three impartial officials who tail each cap ship, and give regular updates to the ship of their responsibility's position. If a capship is destroyed prematurely, then that official makes an announcement immediately so that all teams can regroup and reorganize.”

I like this idea. What if one player from each nation escorts another nation’s cap ship? For example: Serco player --> Itani capship, Itani player --> UIT capship and UIT player --> Serco capship.
The job of the escort player would be to:
1. Escort the cap from the capital system to the starting location of the battle
2. Report when the cap ship explodes to all players
3. Announce predetermined location information.

The escort would have to have high faction standing with the nation they are playing escort too. The escort player would be free to join the battle after the battle starts. Also there would be almost no need for an event coordinator. Someone just needs to say "START".

I love the idea of having to register your participation with a Nation leader. Communications between nations and the event coordinator would be easier too. I had some problems contacting someone on the Serco cap ship to determine its location during the last battle. The player I did finally get in contact with wouldn’t tell me his location because I was Itani. I think that was because of Serco’s confusion with the rules. I had to send a scout into Serco territory to determine the location of their cap ship before I could begin the battle.

As always your comments and suggestions are welcome.

it would work, but the serco would get shot up by the Itani ship.

what would be really nice would be the establishment of new channels like 201 and 202 for CtC where server-based announcements would be made.

<222> SMV Potaris is under attack in Ukari A-10!
<222> IDV Sola has been destroyed in Sedina B-8!

CrippledPidgeon:
"The escort would have to have high faction standing with the nation they are playing escort too."

That way they wouldn't get shot at. The escort player only needs +200 with that nation to dock with and not be shot b the cap ship.

The server idea would be ideal but I want to try and do this without the developers having to make any changes to the game. They have enough work to do already.

Please make any suggestions to the game to the suggestions forums. And only include suggestions here that can be implemented without any changes to the current game.

Thanks

well, i might not be the best person to make an opion on this (not having been able to make it to ether fight) but i think baning swarms whould be best, it whould put a bit more skill into it insted of point and click.

allso allthough it might get stale faster it whould be easyer to plan if it were every week.

and to my mind it dosent reaily matter who wins and loses, (i meen i'd of course prefer it if uit won everytime :) ) the main thing is having a good big fight with hundrads of people.

.p.s could someone tell me who was the manager for the uit in the fight please?

p.p.s oh and my congraulations to jestatisbess for coming up with this idea.
May 10, 2005 JestatisBess link
Maso was the UIT leader during the last fight.

I thought about banning swarms but it would be immposible to enforce. Most cap ships aren't destroyed by swarms, turrets are though. It take way to much time to conyinually rearm them which makes there use a slight disadvantage.

I actually thought this last battle was excellent. I think, however, since this is a war, any strategy to attack the cap ship is "fair" once it's gotten to the point in grey space that Jestatis points out.

Thanks so much for organizing and making this happen.
