only three?

wow, that's more than half then... Kix was the one I lost to (damn that energy!)

EDIT: is it possible to beg a dev to 'fix' that? XD

Huh? He won?

grumble... grumble... grumble...

[edit]then absolutely no whining allowed... hehe...[/edit]

[edit 2]Ooooh... interesting stats... I've learned a *lot* from them in the past, but there is no way I'm looking at them all...[/edit 2]

RelayeR - you'll have to go back to my earlier post, as I *did* respond to your waggle comment...

[edit] and FYI... I *could* do barrel rolls in space when I had my flight yoke/rudder pedals setup (long time ago)... but it was a major pain in the arse (<--- used for Martin's benefit)... and was not very pretty... I can't do them very well with my dual-stick setup, though... but point rolls are an absolute no-brainer...[/edit]

OK Seta:
Without using the internet, I would have guessed that a barrel roll was a continuous roll, continuing through 360° without stopping, while a POINT roll is where you stop at 90 degree increments, with four points (90°, over halfway / 180° upside down / 270° 3/4 thru roll / 360°, back to upright) Dunno if that's correct.

Anyway, I still think the easier solution is just to move yer button, Martin. I have absolutely NO problem with the 5 second rule whatsoever. So nyah. >:P

Leber:

Point roll doesn't have to be 90-degree increments - that's only the four-point roll. Also common is the eight-point roll (45-degree increments), and even a 180-degree roll can be considered one... you could consider other variations as well. The basic idea is the same though - you roll in short increments, pausing at different points.

In an aircraft, it's actually a lot harder than you might think...

By your reasoning Leber the way to avoid the old "no faction loss in NFZ" bug would be not to undock Lebermac.

It's a bug, and a solution has been presented. My suspicion is that the duelling code can't be that complex, as it was added in a very short time frame and doesn't really involve too many checks. Is it too much to request it be fixed?

To me, it seems more like this driving metaphor:
"Hey, I often blow thru stopsigns since my brake is too close to the accelerator and I sometimes accelerate by accident instead of braking, so I suggest that the devs build special traffic lights at all intersections that automatically control all traffic so we never have to think about whether we're hitting the brakes or the accelerator."

But I also see your point, Martin. If it *IS* easy to simply change that, then why not? Of course, we have not heard from any of them to tell us whether it's an easy fix or a complex one.

It's fixed now. I checked. (edit: actually LeberMac and I checked. Thanks Leber)

Thanks A1kon. Awesome work.

Guess that was one of those "easy fixes". Yer so smart, Martin!
Yes, now we can duel some more... ;)

THANK YOU!!!

...now, can we fix my duel rating? XD

w00t! Martin has his fix, and I can delete my "wait 5 activate" bind... but no one really answered my barrel roll question...

First, (on topic) congratulations Martin (and a1k0n for the repairs)...

and now... the answer (I gave it out ingame)... and I am going to actually deposit 50K in Nerde's name for his reply (it was right on, but lacked the "gravity" angle I was looking for)... and 50K in LeberMac's name... it was really good, too... (and I *really* just want to be able to say that Leber has donated to the Cows... hehe... "Thanks Leber!")

A barrel roll "looks" like a cork screw because it is performed about a 45-degree (approx) angle to the axis of rotation... and it is a "one-g" maneuver (<---what I was looking for)... meaning that the aircraft *never knows* it was upside down, or sideways... it only *sees* the same one-g force as in straight and level flight... several famous pilots have used that to build a show... like putting a cup of coffee on the glarescreen and doing the roll without spilling anything... and one, in particular "Tex" Johnson, actually barrel rolled a Boeing 707 (known as the "dash-80") on it's maiden flight before prospective buyers... not once, but twice... and was immediately fired by Bill Allen for that "stunt" (he was rehired the next morning).

Properly performed... the aircraft never *knows* it was upside down.... (there are special things in aerobatic aircraft - like baffles in the crankcase to keep the oil in place, etc)... so there you have it... the answer was "it is a one-g" roll... and in space, that simply does not matter... :)

and FYI... a point roll (it's called a lot of things) is simply a roll about the x-axis...... wanna do one? fire turbo (to lock the other two axis)... then hit the roll key...

Seta ("I want my badge back") Ralel...

Dunno If I like the words "deposit" and "into cow" in the same sentence associated with my name....
Nov 09, 2005 Cunjo link
Unofficially, Johntson was never fired. Boing just didn't want to be thought responsible for his stunt by the media.

BTW, there's a short clip from the documentary which covered Johnston's roll which is worth seeing

Very nice clip (and shows the roll pretty well... and why it got it's nickname)... Two items to note... first it is Johnson, not Johnston (there has always been a mixup about that, for some reason)... and secondly, Tex actually did roll the dash-80 again (after being told not to)... and *was* immediately fired. Tex and Bill had one of those "mutual admiration" relationships... but Tex rather used his position as a really talented test pilot (and especially in the dash-80) against Bill on several occasions... and there are some notable "heated discussions" between the two... and he was fired *several* times... always to return... hehe...

[edit] Sorry Leber... but as soon as I can get the deposit made... your name is going in the Viper's ledger... and our banks are called the "Cash Cows"... so take the "deposit" and "cow" however you wish... just watch your step... hehe... [/edit]

[edit 2] And sorry, Martin, for hyjacking your thread as I did... it was just appropriate, for some reason... at least you got your bug fix, I got to tease Leber, and the community knows more about barrel rolls than they ever thought they would... *big smile*... [/edit 2]

Hi

I think this thread is a bit of a joke... the original request was I think something along the lines of fix the delay please... ie... as soon as someone dies the other gets awarded the victory... or, perhaps if thats not possible the game could be smart enough that once someone dies its flagged as a victory, regardless of whether they jump and then award them when it feels like it.

all your counter measures to get around the bug are fine ideas, yeh its not that big of a deal to wait for 5 seconds I suppose but none the less... for the sake of reporting bugs.. sounds like a bug to me

its up to the devteam in which order they address issues not the players, so dont pay out on someone for bringing up a bug, or an issue... if you have a workaround great, but ideally wouldnt it be nice if the award was done immediately or in some way jumping once the opponent is destroyed didnt count as a loss?

I see this one has been fixed anyway which is great.. my point is just for players trashing a thread reporting an issue

??? I'm not sure where the frustration is coming from.

This thread has been pushing up daisys for 2 years. Totally dormant.

damn google heh... linked me to this thread somehow and I was just reading didnt look at dates, sorry

I think the post laid out the frustration well enough but its irrelevant since its been fixed anyway meh :)

I did get your memo. I've filed it away to be read next year.

ZeffriN: You don't want to be judged today on things you messed up on 2 years ago...do you?
