16 hours of trial :D

Yeah, although it'll require an automated email address verification, captcha, etc. Andy and I have to deal with way too much of "oh god I subscribed the wrong account and didn't use a real email address and can't recover my password and..", well you get the idea. So, slightly more hoop-jumping to sign up (but not much), with a longer trial and some other improvements.

Inspirational news post, incarnate. Thank you.

"It's these times when we (the developers) are the most silent, that are usually the hardest on our userbase. And yet, our silence only stems from the intensity and focus being applied to the game which carries our collective hopes."

As the (I believe) newest PCC member, yes, I can say you guys have made some subtle, but indispensable changes (BOMBERS IN MISSIONS...........YAY) Good post. Certainly nothing like any other news post thing, more like a devlog.

pilot-able capital ships that land on planets or something

You heard it here first, from the man himself - next week's release has PC capships and planets that you can land on. And build teepees.

On the more short-term front, we're looking at putting some potentially very cool (and unexpected) new functionality into our client Rather Soon Now. But, we cannot discuss the specifics of it at this time, due to confidentiality agreements and other developments in the works. Things are still a bit tentative, but if integration goes well, you'll be seeing it within weeks (not months).

They're licensing tetris to put in the PDA. That way you have something to do while chatting ingame.

Great Newspost.

It's going to be my animated head in a box on the GUI. I'll mostly be telling you not to do things. Think of a cross between Max Headroom and Glum from the Gulliver's Travels cartoons ("Don't do it Gulliver!").

And just to head of the inevitable questions: I neither dye my hair nor bleach my beard.

Awesome!

Is there anything we, the players, can do to help prepare for the influx of newbs?
Apr 11, 2008 incarnate link
Not yet, as we get closer to the particular influx time, I'll post a list of areas where we could use help (seeding the torrents, mentoring newbies, etc).

In the meantime, posting feedback on things like Border Skirmish, and generally helping out with any new requests-for-comment that I post on Suggestions would be good. I'll probably be asking on Suggestions for a lot of concise, nondramatic feedback on specific topics over the coming weeks. We'll use this to fine-tune our priorities, while trying to get the easiest-to-implement, but broadest-impact changes done quickly.

Oh yes there is! Dust off the flares.

I knew you'd be back sooner rather than later, Doc. Heh.

Yay for Marketing! Yay for new players!

Yay for "weeks rather than months".
Yay x2 for it actually happening.

Did I hear there's a potential influx of noobies?

Hmmm, retirement has been kinda boring lately...
