Ads ingame

Like... REAL ads, that HELP guild make money... now I know people don't agree with this, I don't think the devs like this... but put it, let's say s9 in place of the current banners, and make them dimmer (but make the words clearer because companies will complain for sure), or something so that it's not really in your face.
Also, there's a little spot in the "inventory" tab that says "Don't click here" (hi Incarnate), maybe something can be placed there.

Um. This was suggested before. It was said that even if we could get 1000 people ingame, that's not a big enough audience for someone to pay guildsoftware to put ads in.

I wouldn't mind seeing in-game billboards. In fact I think it would be cool and realistic. It also wouldn't require much effort either. And even if the payoff is a tiny amount, it's still better than nothing. Why not get paid while adding something cool to the game, ya know? And even if the sponsors are skeptical, offer them some type of trial period to see if they like it and explain to them the nature of MMORPG games etc.

Yea, I agree, these are all great ideas, however, there is simply not enough people playing to make any ad company take us seriously...

True True. Until it goes public. I bet if they run it as a free game with ads they make more money.

Than with subscriptions? I think not.

With the right marketing a non-subscription MMORPG with ad sponsorship to cover the costs could make more money than normal subscription but it is a really risky thing to try (Not to mention the fussyness of potential sponsers).

I KNOW it was rogue, but it doesn't need to get a ton of money... heck, even 1k a year must help those devs.

well Incarnate keep saying "we're low [on money]", and they haven't found a sponsor yet... so I'm just trying to find ways to get some money for them.
Has anyone donated more than $100 to guild?
Sep 17, 2003 alienb1212 link
Hmm, no, but I might send them a money order soon, if I can scrape up the cash...

That's not the problem. The problem is that coke or pepsi or whatever isn't going to be willing to pay...
Sep 16, 2003 The Kid link
who said coke or pepsi?

Why not make it more like Cowboy Bebop where you have ad billboards posted NEXT to wormholes? That way you'll see 'em in almost every charted sector. Well... maybe not for secret sectors, but it beats having just one or two ads in a few sectors.

Using them as an example.

Ah, but while it's tricky, the reward would be great. I think the better way to do it is to make a free version without a bunch of features (Like guilds) and then make ads in it, and if you subscribe, the ads go away, and you get the features.

FYI - I bet Pepsi and Coke would kill to get in Everquest.

Folks, internet advertising has hit ROCK bottom. And that's essentially what you're talkin about here. Advertising is ALWAYS about the # of eyes that see the ad. Right now, no advertisor in their right mind would advertise in Vendetta... not enough eyes. Let it go live, let the subscriptions come in and then MAYBE you get some advertisors.

Oh and I SERIOUSLY doubt that Pepsi or Coke would want to spend a lot of money advertising in Everquest. These companies are used to talking about 100,000's of eyes seeing their advertising!

Why not? Pocky advertised on Cowboy Bebop. It was very subtle, but you could see people eating pocky here and there. A billboard for Pepsi in S9 wouldn't be too bad. If Guild gets adverts, they make money, our bills are smaller, everyone is happy. If not, oh well, ad-free. It's a win-win. As long as the ads are not too intrusive I have no problem with it. And I have faith in Guild that they respect they players enough to excersise restraint. This demo proves that.

well, look how many people are playing....right now, do it.

It'd take that many, times oh, say 1000 for an ad company to even THINK about having guild hos ads
Sep 16, 2003 The Kid link
well our "population" is 8.5k... not all of them play BUT the chars exist, and 6 max per account... 1417 accounts at least...
:)
