And the undisputed Hog of PVP... Is the Warthog!!!

I've tried the Centurion, the Vulture, the Hornet, The Wraith, the Ragnarok and last and yes people the least, the Warthog.

****The Centurion, ****

1x small weapon

Pros: with a tach or gause the Centurion is a small target with a very respectable amount of maneuverability.

Cons: only one small weapons port and light armor, "time for some fancy flying"

****The Vulture, ****

2x small weapons

Pros: with the right weapons load-out you can cripple an opponent with a well-aimed opening salvo. Decent armor a tiny profile and maneuverability second only to the Valkyrie, you just can't go wrong with this ship.

Cons: only two small weapons ports, I guess? Ok there are none :)

****The Hornet, ****

4x small weapons

Pro's: If you get hit with a full salvo from this monster, just run, if you’re not already back at your home station "if you know what I mean". Good Armor too.

Cons: Wow! What a brick. Get that full salvo in quick, cause you aint gonna be fly circles around nothing except another Hornet or a Warthog. "The Hornet really should be a Bomber"

****The Wraith, ****

2x small weapons
1x large weapons

See the Hornet; accept it has one heavy weapon slot.

****The Ragnarok, ****

3x small weapons
2x Heavy weapons

Pro's: Along with the Serco Prometheus and Hornet The Ragnarok has the most devastating salvo, actually by the numbers it is the most devastating. With heavy armor and maneuverability slightly less than the Prometheus and in my opinion better than the Hornet there is no recovering from a full salvo from this slugger.

Cons: again forget about all that fancy footwork in this beast.

Now for the Warthog,

Pro's: Hmmm, Aahhh, Well lets just move on to the ugly.

Con's: Under powered engine and weapon wise don't get me wrong one heavy and one light seems decent but in practice it just doesn’t work. With the lack of maneuverability and armor you can't bring your weapons to bear and by the time you the bomber has already put you to bed or the smaller craft has nickel and dimmed you to death.

So to summarize forget about the Warthog it does nothing well and everything poorly. So there!

Woah woah Mutorcs...I flew a warthog for most of the period between the most recent reset and the reset before it. If you arm it right, the warthog makes a eally really good heavy weapons platform, with a maneuverability enough to take out even skilled vulture pilots. The armor isn't bad at all on a warthog, especially for the small overall profile it has. and more once my brain reboots and I get a nap.

He clearly has no idea what he's talking about.. Everyone here knows a Hog in the hands of a good pilot can hold off a valk for 30 seconds or so

In the right hands it'll destroy the valk 87% of the time

The Vulture has the wingbug, which disqualifies it from dueling anywhere except empty space. I mean, it's possible to get kills on a 100% hp vult simply by ramming it. I've done it. The hog, however, is great. For energy, gauss + adv gat in hog is impossible to attack without a Centurion or Valkyrie (nothing else can dodge it). For rockets, Screamers+Sunflares. Mmm.

The Hog is second only to the Valkryie for pirates. The jackhammer/tach combo is working quite well for me at the moment. And it can easily fight smaller craft - its manueverability really isn't that bad at all.

The vulture is great because of it's uber slim profile. You need gauss auto-aim or rocket proximity to hit such a target unless you're an energy Master.

Woah woah woah, not so fast there, murtocs.

The hog is *the* most agile ship that can mount a heavy weapon, and that is important. As a matter of fact I'd be willing to wager credits that I could take you on in a hog against any of those other ships you mentioned.

All this is true plus the most important thing:

The Hog looks like a Viper from the old series BattleStar Galctica:

That just makes the thing irresistable.

Plus, if you are freindly with the NT (UIT?), you can get a Hog Territorial Defender, which is a sweet piece of ship...

I always combat in a warthog, it is one of the best combat ships I have ever flown anyone from the olden days who has battled me in a hog knows I can whip it around like no ones business. In the new version i'll probably have to level like mad to get the weapon combo i prefer but back in the day it was a mighty ship

I like the wraith, Its actually faster than many fighters ive seen, and my normal combat tactic involves doing a "chicken" type run on my enemy, where I charge straight at them firing, strafe out of the way, cut throttle and go into physics mode, then spin around and pummel em from behind.

another sweet piece of ass is the Centurion itani border patrol ship. all the pros of a Centurion, but with TWO mounted slots. alot smaller to hit than a vulture, and well, in the hands of a good pilot, its completly bad ass.

The Hog is the shiznit.
You seemed to have made your judgements on the assumption that you're going to sneak attack people all the time, otherwise you wouldn't have this emphasis on "opening salvos."
Opening salvos aren't that big a deal in real combat. People can see you coming and they'll dodge. The Hog is tied with the vult as far as combat capability. It's agility combined with the power of the Advanced gat and other high-proximity heavy port weapons is pure death.

remember the "good ship configs" thread?
there are some really good configurations for the warthog there... you can get rail/jackhammer hog very early on, and that is already very hard to attack!

Meh! I say!
All of you!

You, and you there, yes you! And standing over there you too. You’re all crazy. You're obviously deep in the throes of "Space Madness” in PVP with good pilots the Warthog is a Hog, and as for the hog getting the best of a Vult... C’mon, who ya kidding.

Did someone say missiles? Really harvestmouse, when's the last time missiles won you the fight in pvp against a capable opponent.

Warthog beat a good pilot in a Valk 87% of the time, "Humpy have you being getting high?"

Magus Most people like to get in a full salvo if they can, helps your odds of winning significantly. Real pvp will involve sneak attacks and Alpha strikes, ask the pirates as they perform pvp in its purest form.

Orion_Prime quite true, it is a very cool looking fighter.

... I'm a pirate. I use a warthog. In fact, unless I have sunflares, I doubt I could pirate in ANYTHING ELSE.

Warthogs can easily destroy a vulture.. I just had a thought - are you joking or something?
Oct 06, 2004 Hoax link
Oh come on, anything the Hog can do half assed the Atlas does with style and more cargo. I don't even know why they're both in the game...

;)
Oct 06, 2004 maj_armstrong link
Thank you Hoax,

Cleary this pilot is unaffected by Warthog induced "Space Madness"

I really don't undestand why so many respectable pilots and vets love the hog...

I'll take a Vult over a Hog pvp wise any day.

I'm willing to test my hypothesis this evening 7pm NY eastern time.

Mutorcs, I certainly agree with you that a vult is better than a Hog... but the 'net is the worst ship out there.

The hog is by far the fastest ship which can equip an AGT. It's a lot better than the prom, rag, wraith hands down. It can also beat a bus, which is more than the hornet can say.
Oct 06, 2004 UncleDave link
It is SO not better than the prom. You will regret those words.
Oct 06, 2004 Yokom link
I just believe he said the Hog was worse then the Rag for pvp. Now unless you sneak up on someone the rag is worthless against an agile ship.

Rag != Agility
