Deneb Run #50

Jun 10, 2006 Screwball link
TGFT and EnB will again be hosting The Deneb Run this weekend.

*** In honor of this being the 50th Deneb Run, I though I'd do something special this week. Therefore the race route will be altered somewhat. See below. ***

*** Valkyries are not allowed! Again! ***

*** The TIME will be 5 PM EDT Saturday (9 PM GMT Saturday) ***

*** The race progress announcements will be announced on Channel 500 (assuming that channel isn't for something else) ***

*** Listen to racing music on Radio TGFT at http://www.live365.com/stations/dj_screwball ***

All citizens are welcome to race, there is no entrance fee, and 4 Million credits in prizes are available. Some of it could be yours!

Once again, the rules are:

1) *** Special route this week. The Race starts at Odia M-14 and proceeds to Latos. From there, it goes up into Azek and Dau, then over to Arta Caelestis and back to Ukari. From there, it goes to Deneb via Serco space, and back to Odia M-14 via Itani space.
2) Race starts in Odia M14 near the station.
3) Contestants must be within 100m of me before the start
4) No shooting before I start the race.
5) You die and you're out (so no /exploding)
6) All weapons and ships allowed, except those listed in #10.
7) First person to get back and dock at Odia M14 wins the first prize. (2 million credits)
8) Second person back gets 2nd place prize (1.2 million credits)
9) Third person back gets 3rd place prize (800k credits)
10 Valkyrie ships are not allowed.
11) Attempting to trigger a false start of the race is grounds for disqualification.
12) Money for killing other racers: Any pilot, racing or not, is eligible to earn money as follows:

Pre-condition #1: There must be at least 3 racers
Pre-condition #2: Less than 3 racers complete The Deneb Run
If the above pre-conditions are met, the undistributed prize money will be awarded to those who killed the racers as follows:
- Kills in the Odia M-14 sector are not eligible
- The most recent eligible kill earns the highest unawarded prize money (2 mil, 1.2 mil, 800k, or 0)
- The 2nd most recent eligible kill earns the 2nd highest unawarded prize money (1.2 mil, 800k, or 0)
- The 3rd most recent eligible kill earns the 3rd highest unawarded prize money (800k or 0)

Please reply to this thread if you intend to race.

Announcing the results of The Deneb Run #50, sponsored by TGFT and EnB.

The Pilots
----------
Mick: UIT, council member of PA, he's a veteran racer with many top 3 finishes and four wins in The Deneb Run, including the last three consecutive weeks. He's also won the Corporate Sectors Run several times, and holds the current record time in that race.

Breazle: UIT, Commander of BHu, he's a veteran racer who has done respectably but is still yearning for a win.

toshiro: Serco, member of SoR, he's a veteran racer who's best finish so far is 3rd place.

Deslock: Serco, member of SCAR, this is his first race.

The Race
--------
[check here later]

The Stats
---------
Breazle | 35:53 | Orion Hornet, FC, 1x Law gun
Mick | DNF | Vulture MkIII, FC, no weaps
Deslock | DNF | Vulture MkIII, FC, 1x Neut2
toshiro | DNF | Orion Hornet, FC, no weaps

Interesting observations:

1. There was a small group of racers this week, which had a few players salivating at the easy chance to earn some money by killing the racers.

2. Breazle managed to dock under hostile conditions and was the only player to complete the race. Nice work!

3. Once again, Mick docked to repair during the race, which probably kept him alive after taking lots of damage early on. This time it wasn't enough, though. After leading for most of the race, he had a connection problem in Bractus which resulted in him being blown up by Moby Dick. Due to the problem being out of his control, Mick was awarded the prize money for 2nd place and Moby Dick was awarded the 3rd place kill prize.

4. Deslock got ganked by NPC pirates coming out of the wormhole into Bractus.

5. toshiro dropped out early on after making a wrong turn in Ukari.

Correct me if I'm wrong Screwball, but does this mean the Race has been run for almost a full year, every week, or did we miss a week or two in there?

we missed a few, I think, but we can check.

More than a year. Some missed races in between and such. Good work starting a great event, Martin.

There were some missed weeks here and there. Race #41 actually marked the 1 year anniversary. See: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/7/13365

And yeah, thanks Martin for starting this! It seems to have become a good tradition.

Having said that, various summer plans are about to preclude my ability to run the race for the next three weeks. I expect to be able to run it tonight, but I'm waiting for an update on my mother, who just broke her femur yesterday and is supposed to go into surgery today.
