Clean up the Guilds?

Heya folks. Ever notice how many guilds there are out there with 30 people but they're all 0/0/0/0/0 ?
Has anyone ever MET a WolfPack member? Did Dr. Lecter eat them all? How about Beta guild? Did they go away after Beta?
Am I just online at the wrong time to see these people?

I've never seen HALF the people on some of these guilds. I'll bet some enterprising and intelligent Forum Moderator could clean that stuff up. Any guild where there hasn't been an active player for like 90 days gets wiped clean.

yes... I know that this has been suggested before, coming SoonTM, etc... it's just been quite the annoyance lately..

Speaking as the old commander for BETA I do herby give permission for the guild to be disbanded

There's supposed to be a thing where after six months of inactivity your account is deleted... If I've done calculations correctly it's been SEVEN months since release, and a LOT of people went inactive right away. Unless this was taken out lots of people should be gone.

I know the use of Alternate characters is oftentime used to create a guild. Perhaps we should (somehow) limit the use of this tactic.

Really? So Harry, how did you do with that f*ů€ing second foundation?

¬_¬

I seem to remember having created them to keep my statistics within reason, and the progression toward Foundation's success on track.

Do I forsee a guild-mafia? :P

What if 1 player was still active in the guild? Would that be enough to keep the guild?

Maybe use the criteria if they haven't posted a description about their guild it is considered dead.

Harry - watch out for that "Mule" guy. He'll kinda ruin your psychohistory thing. And the whole second foundation doesnt turn out like you think, either...

(/me bows to Issac Asimov, the greatest writer of all time...)

I know that someone, somewhere, must have a way to determine how long it has been since a character has logged on. Is there not a way to weed some of these guilds out?

I've made a list of what I think are the remaining active guilds:
Black Lance [BLAK] 28
Border Patrol [BP] 10
Doo World Order [dWo] 16
Earth and Beyond [EnB] 202
Elite Phoenix RPGuild [ELIT] 38
Hive Suppression Asssault Force [HSAF] 10
Itani Alliance [IA] 46
Itani Defense Force [IDF] 65
Sedina Strike Force [SSF] 11
Serco Cadre of Armed Forces [SCAR] 18
Shades of Red [SoR] 19
Sigma [SB] 10
Guild of Free Traders [TGFT] 38
The Vipers [VPR] 36

Feel free to add others I guess. I apologize profusely if I have left someone out. (See the Apology thread elsewhere..) And I think EnB needs to do some SERIOUS member trimming.

I quote from the Vendetta manual:
Forming a new guild is a little bit trickier. Guilds need to have a minimum of ten members to stay active, so when you create the guild, you'll need to have at least nine friends online who will join your guild immediately.
http://www.vendetta-online.com/manual/mul_guilds.html

I would humbly suggest that these original 9 friends CANNOT be alts of guildmembers. Can the game determine who is an alt? Dunno.

Anyway, with that previously stated guild rule from the manual, we have already eliminated BOFH, Gold Nation, and Newbs of Vendetta. 6 Other guilds have 10 or fewer. Any NEW guilds should of course be given some slack.

Yes EnB does need to clean up, we will get our guild to look through the guild list and we will come up with a list of names to be removed, then remove them ASAP at a council meeting.

I'll work on it and see what can be done.

Our guild has decided to abort our guild clean-up. Why? Because MANY people that were thought to be inactive on our list were seen online at some point. We do not want to accidently remove someone that is still active.

Instead, could a guide/dev please manually remove people in our guild that hasn't logged on in 3+ months?

Maybe you can figure out away to identify the active/inactive members?

I've heard that several guilds record member participation via, activity on a guild fourm, attendence at guild events or even through the payment of weekly/monthly dues.

if someone has the person in question on a buddy list you can use the budy commands to determine when that person was last online.
May 24, 2005 DragonEmpire link
Spellcast, I have thought of that but it would be a real pain to find out about 100-140 members or so. As you know we are a VERY large guild and about half of our members are inactive.

how about using the MOTD to ask players that don't want to be deleted from the guild to sign up in a designiated thread at your forum?

I think it would give you an indication of which players want to stay in the guild.
May 24, 2005 DragonEmpire link
There is a problem with that though. There are some players in our guild that do not participate in chat and are not even signed up on our forums. On our main forum we only have 50 of our 210 members registered.
May 24, 2005 sarahanne link
Okay, now I'm confused. If they don't chat with you and don't join the forum are they really IN your guild?
May 24, 2005 who? me? link
Would it not be reasonable, to, amongst the people who have signed for the form, to come up with a list of the players who have been seen in say the last month?

I think it is a reasomable solution.

/me smacks who?me?... WAIT. (sorry, reflex maneuver...)

I agree with what he just said.
And I'm gonna try to see who has been online with the buddy command like Spellcast said.
