making a suggestion: Ship Names

I think it would be great if players could name their individual ships. Not change around the name of the ship class, but attach a name to each specific ship they bought. The display could read

Player Name
Ship Name
(Ship class, model)

so, for example:
Dash Riprock
S.S. Essess
(Wraith mk III)

I'm not sure if this has been brought up before (and if it has, I'm sorry) but I think it would be a wonderful addition. Not only would it add another level of customization and character to the game, but it would also make it easier for people with their own fleets to organize their individual ships.

it has... about 5 or 6 times, and i think it has been shot down just as many times

More like 50 in the time I've been around...but don't worry. At this point I'd start getting scared if new players STOPPED asking that question.

I don't think it's been shot down, I think it's just one of the "When we have time, not a high priority" objects.

Yeah, I haven't shot it down, at least. I'm all for it for player-owned capships, but it's not really a priority for smaller vessels.

Dash Riprock, eh? Another EV player, hmm...

They're everywhere!

Oh, and I like the idea.

I keep scanning suggestions for when the next Names for Ships threads come up...I posted mine in February.
That said; pls incarnate....give us the possibility to name our ships with crazy and possibly offensive names:)

Of course, the names would have to be unique...

Like the Ole Sloth Moth XV...

We want small ships with unique names!!

Should ship names come into practice, I'd like the option to fly around anonymously, at the price of appearing unaligned and KOS with the rest of the world. (Factions included) This would be because not relaying who you are is a natural sign of distrust; nations wouldn't want any unidentified pilots in their territory, as they'd have to assume the worst in order to protect their citizens and stuff. So mostly it'd be for unmonitored space.

Obviously this would be useful for pirating or just being an insane psycho-killer, commonly known as "griefing", but it'd also create alot of interesting social situations. For example, instead of trying to shame people on the forums for killing X person during Y event, it would become obvious that the only way to prevent things like that from happening is to physically deter unwanted's with guns. Then fun stuff like investigations could occur! Bounty hunters would actually have something to do, and since "going anonymous" would put you KOS with any faction, the only place someone could dock without revealing themselves would be Corvus stations. Or if you wanted to post a bounty, you could do it by ship name. 1 mil for the destruction of the "Scrupilous Scuttler" or whatever.

Wearing masks or being identified soley by uniform is an ancient part of human history, and would play a vital role in a game with piracy and warfare.

i know this post is as old as dirt, but i wanted to comment on something inc said:
"..not really a priority for smaller vessels."
/me looks for a not "smaller vessel"...
my point is it has been 2 years since that post, this has been brought up numerous times. unless capships are a few months away, why not go ahead and implement this? at least this aspect of capships would already been finished.

Actually with several hundred ships berthed about space naming them just seems a chore.

Giving them serial numbers and having a ship tab under inventory showing where they all are would be more useful. Add sort by type / location / loadout and you have a useful tool.

I think naming is an option, Ecka, not a requirement. And given a free text field, you can organize them however your silly little TGFT heart desires.

Though I do submit that keeping several hundred ships berthed about space would make one a total fucking idiot.

Or lazy Dr. Lecter, simply lazy. Besides, when they bumped the prices on ships, Ecka made a cool 100 million by logging on:)

Meph, to stay in the game you have to learn two things: Patience

Submit what you like Dr. L . Get in game and shoot me and I might use up some of the ships I bought to join in the game with ....

Wait, Hort, what's the other thing Meph has to learn?
Aug 02, 2009 vskye link
Well, I have hundreds of ships, 400+ at last count. I made a killing off some of them after the price jump, and kept some around just because. heh

Persistence. But you would have to have patience to actually get the second point.

Oh, and yet another bump for this idea. Can a pirate please suggest this so it can be implemented?

Persistence. I hope you were kidding about the pirate thing. I think Inc made himself clear about allegations of favoritism.

Persistence. Bump.

Got that right.

I was:) It was suggested at some time and I thought it was stupid enough to make fun of.
However, the recent new majiggies have been more fighting oriented and not so much for us pacifists.. We demand more non-combat things or we'll...... eat more brussel sprouts!!!
