Ban the IRC and other chat bots

All these bots do is allow people to stick their noses into the chat when they're not even in game, usually to say something nasty to someone else.

Chat bots add nothing to the game, and detract from actual player's gameplay.

So do alt checking scripts. Ban the active list, database access, etc.

Wait wait, I have an even better line.

tumble is complaining about his gameplay when he blows up n00bs?
Dec 29, 2006 tumblemonster link
I agree with your suggestions. Active players list should be removed. Guild list's should be removed. Stat's access should be removed.

And the IRC and bots like it that allow people to chat ingame while not being in game should be removed.

As should the 500,000 credit round trip trade routes. Obvious mistake and bug.
Dec 29, 2006 tumblemonster link
That doesn't have anything to do with the topic. Chat bots are a bug exploit, they're chat bots, and should be banned.

Now, now boys. Play nice.

I kinda like the idea of not knowing who's in what guild, and removing the mandatory guild listings. If you want to publish your guild's membership, fine. If you want to be a secret society, fine. Eliminate the guild tags near your name. Nice.

I like stats access, online lists, and chat bots. I'd actually like an easier and more formal interface to chat inside VO with, when you're not ingame. But - limit it to one channel like it is now.

I agree with Leeb...err...Lexicon.
Dec 29, 2006 tumblemonster link
Maybe if it's limited to a non main channel (not 100).

We should eliminate Hive bots too while we're at it. AI of all sorts should be wiped from the game, they are a detriment to my gameplay.
Dec 29, 2006 jexkerome link
Considering you can ignore the IRC bot and all bots, I fail to see the need for this. If they ever truly become a nuisance, then yes, by all means, take them out. Otherwise, no.
Dec 30, 2006 Snax_28 link
Considering that annoying is a subjective term...

I'm all for removing IRC chat from ingame, although unless it is going to be part and parcel of a solution for the whole 100 problem... then don't bother.
Dec 30, 2006 tumblemonster link
It's already a nuisense. How many flame wars get started on 100 due to some smart ass comment from the IRC? Come on manharu, you must know, you log everything...
Dec 30, 2006 CrippledPidgeon link
tumble, stop whining and ignore irc.
Dec 30, 2006 drdoak007 link
tumble, if you had an ounce of intelligence in that fat head of yours, you could prevent all of this by not being a moronic retard ingame.

YOU are the only one being flamed, YOU are the one who starts it ALL THE TIME, and YOU never know when to stfu.

consistantly "outing" people's alt chars leaves you open to the public flamings. and people have the right to do so whenever they see you online. if you werent such a do####bag by ruining other player's RP'ing experiences with your precious database/active player lists, you wouldnt be the aim of our flame-fun.

ergo... let us RP in peace, and you wont be ripped apart in the chat.

1:Be Nice.

2: "You may not harass others.
Harassment is defined as specifically targeting another player or group of players to harm or inconvenience them. As harassment can take many forms, the Guide involved will make a determination as to whether or not a "reasonable person" would feel harassed and act accordingly.
"

3: "You may not defraud other players.

Fraud is defined as falsely representing one's intentions to make a gain at another's expense. Examples of this activity include, but are not limited to, using deception to deprive another player of items, slandering another player or impersonating them with the intention of causing harm to that player's reputation, or falsely representing one's identity in order to gain access to another player's account or account information.
"

4: "You may not abuse other players or Guides.

The following actions would be considered abuse:

o Hate Mongering - participation in or propagation of Hate literature, behavior, or propaganda related to real-world characteristics.

o Sexual Abuse or Harassment - untoward and/or unwelcome advances of a graphic and sexual nature. This includes, but is not limited to, virtual rape, overt sexual overtures, and stalking of a sexual nature.

o Attempting to Defraud a Guide - Requesting Guide action with false information with the intent of receiving benefits as a result. This includes reporting bug deaths, experience or item loss, or accusing other players of wrongdoing without basis for it.

o Impersonating a Guide - falsely representing yourself to another player as a Guide or a Guild Software employee.

o Guide Abuse - This includes, but is not limited to, sending excessive messages to a Guide, making physical threats, or using abusive language against a Guide or Guild Software Employee.

o Implying Favoritism by Guides - Stating that employees of Guild Software or members of the Guide program will show favor towards one or more parties involved in any given situation. This includes, but is not limited to, using threats of retribution or inferring that you will not be held accountable for your actions due to special consideration.

Note: This list is not all-inclusive. Other actions may be determined as abuse at the discretion of the Guide.

5: "'Role-playing' does not grant license to violate these rules.

Though Vendetta Online is a Role-playing game, the claim of "Role-play" will not be accepted in defense of any of the anti-social behaviors mentioned above. We strongly encourage role-playing, but cannot allow it to be done at the expense of others.

As the Official Vendetta Online Forums are associated with the game, posting to these forums is bound by the Terms of Service that can be found in their entirety here. In addition to these terms of service, we have a few supplemental rules that apply to the Vendetta Online Forums.

In general, you may post any material, written in a courteous and mature manner, providing that it is on-topic for the forum to which you are posting. This includes material that disagrees with the way that we, the developers, operate the game. We will not interfere with the communication of thoughts and ideas as long as the presentation is appropriate for all those capable of reading the forum.

You may not, however, post any material that:

* Attacks or insults others on the board. Feel free to debate the idea, but do not turn your disagreement into an attack upon the poster.
* Engages in name-calling, harassment, or threats. See above.
* Contains obscenity, vulgarity, or profanity.
* Disparages any religion, race, nation, gender, or sexual orientation.
* Is considered inappropriate for children 13 or over as governed by general standards of decency in the United States.
* Infringes on anyone's privacy rights.

Furthermore, you may not:

* Make multiple posts on the same subject for the purpose of getting attention paid to your issue.
* Post off-topic comments in threads for the purpose of drawing attention to another thread on a different subject.
* Monopolize the front page of any forum by "bumping" threads of the same or similar content to the front. We may intervene by locking threads any time that this occurs.
* Use the official forums as a staging-ground for creating general unrest within the game (e.g. Sit-ins).
* Use the official forums as a place to advertise the sale of Vendetta Online characters or items in exchange for real-world money.
* Advertise web-sites with content that violates these rules, the Vendetta Online EULA, or Terms of Service.
* Advertise products or websites that are not related to Vendetta Online or other Guild Software products.

Action that we might take in regards to a post in violation of these rules on the Official Forums will vary depending upon the transgression. It could include any number of the following:

* Editing of the post.
* Deletion of the post/thread.
* Locking of the thread.
* Suspension (results in user being unable to play Vendetta Online for the duration of the suspension).
* Banishment (results in the user's station account being canceled. User will no longer be able to access Vendetta Online, or any Official Forum).
* Legal Action (I.e. Contacting law enforcement personnel in regard to a threat.)

People who violate the rules of the boards may or may not receive any warning before any action is taken. In the event that a warning is given, the warning will be recorded upon the game account and may result in further action should the player show a pattern of engaging in prohibited conduct. Philosophically and administratively, there is no difference between conduct in game, and conduct in the Official Vendetta Online Forums.

Wow... did you copy-paste the whole R.O.C? Or is that only a portion?

I think I've broken a few for sure... you, yourself MSKanaka have broken a few... tumble has broken a few... jex has, moldy has... pretty much everyone posting here has.

erm so...

Y'ALL are a bunch of ninnies.

(me too)

And Manharu felt the need to reproduce verbatim and unannotated a massive section of text, the bulk of it irrelevant and inapplicable to anything in here... why?

I believe he/she/it is stumping for a guide position.
Dec 30, 2006 lenzenm link
Ok, I try to avoid posting in these kind of threads, but this is getting excessive.

So, relevance?

1: "Be Nice."
Always relevant, even when you disagree with the content of post, or have a personal dislike towards the poster.

2: "You may not harass others."
Continual name-calling of another is a generally considered harassment.

4: "You may not abuse other players or Guides.
o Sexual Abuse or Harassment - untoward and/or unwelcome advances of a graphic and sexual nature. This includes, but is not limited to, virtual rape, overt sexual overtures, and stalking of a sexual nature.

Questioning an individual's real-life sexuality on a repeated basis qualifies as Sexual Harassment (at least according to every Fortune 500 HR policies, so I think it would be applicable here as well).

5: "'Role-playing' does not grant license to violate these rules.

Though Vendetta Online is a Role-playing game, the claim of "Role-play" will not be accepted in defense of any of the anti-social behaviors mentioned above. We strongly encourage role-playing, but cannot allow it to be done at the expense of others."

No hiding behind "I'm roleplaying." 'Nuff said.

OK, let's see here:
No attacks, no insulting, no name-calling. All seem to be applicable to this particular thread.

In short, if you dislike someone, don't resort to being rude. It only undermines your position, even if your original point is valid.
