The PvP +1 Thread

Relocated from the old thread for organizational purposes. The discussion seems to be dying down and we appear to be ready to move on, so let's get an idea of where we stand. There are 5 remaining ideas. You may +1 up to 3, although you do not have to use all of your votes. You may not +1 an idea more than once.

For discussion, see old thread here: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/23612

(A "+" denotes a +1 vote from a player)

+++++++1. Add a ship for the Itani and a ship for the Serco to balance the difference.

++++++2. Increase weight of the valk.

+++++3. Prom3 (or new variant) idea:
Drop it's armor from 16.5K to 14-15K
Drop it's cargo cap from 28 to 6-10.
Now, decrease it's weight from 9500 to 8-8.5K
Bump it's turbo speed to 220.
(Possibly) Give it a thinner facing profile (ie the X-1's shorter profile)

+++++++4. Increase turbo drain of valk vengeance and X1, decrease armor of IDF valk

++5. Increase spin torque for SCP and Prom3 while reducing armor.

2. Increase weight of the valk.
4. Increase turbo drain of valk vengeance and X1, decrease armor of IDF valk

Thank you again Ghost for coordinating a discussion on this subject.

I'm casting my +1's for 3 and 4.

3. I like the idea of finding a better purpose for the prom 3. We may still have to tweak the stats around a bit before we find something permanent, but I think this is on the right track.

4. Slight nerf for balance and adds more variation between ships to boot. Win, win.

Why I didn't vote for:

1. I support this idea as a long term solution, but due to the time and effort required, I don't see it happening anytime soon. That and this can still be done later in addition to any balance tweaks.

2. The valk is supposed to be fast. We don't want to take away its role, just give it a more apparent weakness and make mistakes a little more costly.

Edit: Recorded Roda's votes.

I cast three +s for number 4. And yes, that's right, Ghost: cumulative voting ftw motherfucker.

+1 for #1,

the rest are imho not only un-necessary, but will also result in an entire re-balancing act of other ships/stats and cripple alot of the current PvP fun in VO. The game already has excellent 1v1 balance... nerfing anything will only disturb that balance... Add new ships that balance group-only combat and leave the only part of VO that keeps players coming back and sticking around for me as is.

PS. I am NOT opposed to adding a prototype-mission-required squished prom, as it would make alot of sense for both sides to have prototypes.

Recorded drazed and shank's votes. Recorded one of Lecter's votes =P

There was an objection to idea 8 being removed in the other thread due to an inadequate description. I've modified it and added it to the voting for this thread. If you would like to change your votes to include this idea, you may do so. It is listed as idea 5 in this thread.

Homogenizing the races may be the easy way out, but it's bad for the game. It makes it stale. Give me a good reason why there shouldn't be actual benefits and losses for choosing a particular faction. If there are no reasons to pick one faction over another, then there is no point in having factions at all.

+1 to #4.

In my opinion Proms are so completely underestimated and underused in any combat situation these days, that people (who have sufficient faction) should try only piloting a Prom in pvp fights for a month before commenting on its balance.

Recorded slime's vote. It may be a bit early still, but I think we're starting to see a clear favorite.

But what about the formation indicator? And turreted Prom?

My votes, among those offered, are [234]. EDIT: changed to 2,3

I really liked the idea, but make it long and thin, more similar to an Atlas, the central cube being reduced in 2 dimensions but lenght.
Aug 07, 2010 Ghost link
Turreted prom was removed due to votes against. I personally voted against it for the moment because although I think it would be interesting to explore on its own, it may not be a good fix for the issue we've been discussing.

Formation indicator is a good suggestion and I support it. But it is not directly relevant to the current ship balance discussion.

Recorded Alloh's votes.

Why not? Premisse were:

A. Prom is best in 1v1
B. Valk is best in NvN,N>1

So give better coordination tools to Proms does balance B. Ok, we can to add that only Proms have that, like a built-in add-on. Probably for some time. OR a more agile prom (3)

Later, valk jocks will ask for Large port variant about A...

So, rethinking my vote, remove one + from 4. I prefer to raise the bar, not lower it. But Valks should be heavier...
Vote 2,3

Just a thought, flame it if you will, but it seems to me that the prom, due to its size is a more stable combat platform. Would it be unreasonable to think that targeting from a prom would be more accurate than that of a lighter vessel?
