Further Restrict Greyhound Access

If you are annoyed by people killing you for the 10th time, get a greyhound - they will never catch you.

-One noob to another noob.

Enough already: the Hound was suggested and implemented to be a chaser, not a runner. However, I see traders and runners flying the Hound far more often than I see pirates flying them - apparently high Corvus standing wasn't enough to restrict the fastest ship in the game to those who chase rather than those who run away.

Implement a native KOS requirement for the Hound, and balance it by chopping the repair costs (but not purchase price) by 75%. Traders and runners fly the Hound because they don't have to give anything up for access to it: high Corvus standing is just one more POS bar for these PoSs. Pirates don't bother with it because the repair costs are too high and its low armor makes it too easy to take significant damage when raiding a convoy. Win-win.

I like the hound, its a neat ship, but I never use for anything other than trying to get as far into serco space as possible looking for people to scare before being blow to bit by turret missiles. So, even though i would hate to lose my hobby...

+1

I agree completely. The rats (whats left of them) need something to call their own. And, as Lecter pointed out, the hound isn't a advanced combat ship. It's designed to chase things down. (However the greyhound is one of the most agile canines, not just a straight line sprinter :P) If traders want to just run, grap an Atlas X or hog2.

I really wish they would just make the factions mutually exclusive. Would solve a bunch of issues in one fell swoop.

"I really wish they would just make the factions mutually exclusive."

We have 4 factions and in the interest of balance (which people are always yammering about) It makes sense that in addition to Serco/Itani being mutually exclusive...it makes sense that UIT/Corvus should be too.

[EDIT] also, +1 to the op.

- 1,

Obviously.

Lecter:
"Enough already: the Hound was suggested and implemented to be a chaser, not a runner"

This argument is plain stupid. Every sword has 2 sides. Everything that you can use to chase, you can use to run.

Everything that you can use to chase, you can use to run.

Indeed. The question is, what should players have to give up in order to access the Hound. Certain players - who have a style of play that involves using the Hound for hunting prey rather than running from everything - are likely to be willing to go native KOS for the Hound's benefits. Other players, like you, - who have a style of play that involves running like a little bitch so as to avoid the choice between death or paying a pirate - would never go native KOS. Thus, there's plenty of reason to think that making the Hound limited to native KOS players would cause it to be used mostly for its intended purpose.

Your point is both irrelevant and poorly thought out - feel free to try again, you moron.

Maybe I'm just being silly, but in terms of Corvus Prime related faction exclusivity, I'd rather if Corvus didn't care about anyone else but other entities cared and punished you for being liked by Corvus too much. Significant distinction.

Repair costs definitely need sanity. Though I fly and totally dig the hound when out hunting anyway.

+1. I would also be fine with it also accepting being KOS with both other nations rather than the native KOS, so that privateer-style pirates could also use it.

I agree about Corvus standing angering the more law abiding factions, especially nations.

"Every sword has 2 sides. Everything that you can use to chase, you can use to run."

Only double-edged swords have 2 sides. Have you ever heard of a saber, a machete, a falchion, a scimitar or a cutlass? Those are single edged swords.

...

The Greyhound should be a single edged sword.
Mar 25, 2011 Dr. Lecter link
Heck, my small sword technically has three edges! One of my cutlasses, however, technically has two edges because of its sharp back edge at the hooked tip. Nasty little thing, that.

But I didn't see the need to call this guy out on his lack of time spent around fencers.

Well just a small reminder Corvus is a UIT Corporation and is only interested in open and fair trade with all parties. It is by design Availible to all players and they dont give a care who they sell to.
Makin Corvus and UIT mutually exclusive is a non starter....

As to the Hound -1.
Making it KOS required wouldnt really stop anyone from obtaining it anyway. All Corvus is going to care about is what your standing with them is.

This is not a new Idea at any rate and has already been shot down.....
The biggest Whiners around VO are always the Pirates.....

I wouldn't mind this if there was a p2p market for ships, but that would (intentionally) neuter what Lecter is trying to accomplish.

I'll reiterate what I've been saying for well over a year now: we need an exceedingly fast ship with higher turbo drain than we've seen before as a counter to the Greyhound. Its purpose is to catch up to the fastest ships and launch a volley of flares at them.
Mar 26, 2011 Lord~spidey link
we do desperately need a faction redux, IMO the greyhound should be available to people who are up to respected/neutral with each major nation but not to anyone who's admire+ with any of them.

KOS with all three seems a bit overkill overkill but i'll still give it a +1

[Stamp of Approval]™

Edit: (maalik raises a good point is that RPwise corvus doesn't give two shits who you're aligned with as long as you shell out the cash) this could be fixed with making the GH 200~500k for anyone who's admired with any major faction. that would be enough of a deterrent for TGFT/PA/Itan/VPR even though we're all made out of cash 500k starts getting pretty damn steep.

Just make it a requirement to to be UIT KoS. UIT is the "trade nation". Corvus seems like it was meant to be a counter balance to UIT. Or, make UIT/Corvus standing mutually exclusive.
Mar 26, 2011 Dr. Lecter link
a small AND BRUTALLY INCORRECT reminder Corvus is a UIT Corporation

Fixed.

Statements like this are responsible for the decline of western journalism.

I think we can all agree that a change to the faction system is desperately needed. From my understanding, the Greyhound, from its designers perspective, was originally meant to be a super fast chase ship capable of chasing down heavily laden trade ships (which is what a pirate does). If a trader is using a greyhound to travel rapidly between sectors, he is (given the cargo capacity) not trading and not carrying anything worth ransoming. In any other ship, said player would either attempt to run, or turn and fight, either way the pirate doesn't get paid. It makes no sense to restrict the ship, therefore, solely on the basis of it's pirate origins, as you aren't getting paid either way. The real issue at hand is that the pirate player-base has long wished to have its own faction, with its own faction specific equipment (which they should have). So instead of focusing on one ship that doesn't alter gameplay or profitability, why not suggest what you're really after?
