Dueling badge

Feb 22, 2005 Phaserlight link
It would be nice to have a little incentive to challenge other players to duels. Duels are a true mark of an accomplished PvPer because you know that duels can only be won if the other player accepts; you can't win duels by ganking people when they aren't looking.

The requirements for the duelist badge could be something like at least 50 duels won AND at least a 5 to 1 win/loss ratio.

The reward could be terjekv's proposed HVL railgun: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/9256

Good idea though I don't like the "and 5:1" ratio requirement, that's too much, just the fifty wins alone is more then enough.

YES

Another badge, and a nice price would be the gun youre referring to.

I want a "Runner" badge, showing a yellow chicken on a red background, given out to everyone who runs from more than 100 fights.

I'm not sure if your serious but I love the idea. Negative badges would be great(I think...)!

/me puts tinsel on n00b; Maybe he'll short out.

Fights, generally.

This means that a trader who's good at his task would -very- soon aquire a Runner badge.

...as would probably most people who ever participate in CtC. :)

I wonder if it could be fitted to some decent data about amount of players met, damage dealt vs. damage received, time spent in sector and weapons layout. It seems hard to balance (the observers who get flak and leaves, or just observers who leave?) but it seems like an interesting thing to add.

I am Beolach, and I approve this suggestion.

As far as a "runner" badge goes, I think that'd be cool, but I think it should only apply to running from /duels, for two reasons. First I'd like it better if it was limited to people who knew what they were getting into, and second I think it would be very difficult to determine whether someone was running from fights without something like the /duel command.

With the talk about "epic items" recently, I was thinking about ways to make these "epic items" rare, and it occured to me to suggest a way of combining "epic items" with this "Duel Champion" suggestion.

What I thought of was this: There would be week long "duel championship" competitions, sponsored by all (or at least most) of the different factions. I'd suggest two types of championships: international, and intrafaction.

In the Internation championship, interested players would register with the faction that they wanted to sponsor the player (likely having to meet certain requirements that vary among the different sponsoring factions, such as faction standing and overall duel rating, and paying a registration fee, around 50000 credits). At the beginning of the championship, all registered duelist would have a duel rating of 1000 for the championship. Throughout the week, the players that registered for the championship would duel against each other. At the end of the week, the duelists with the three highest rankings would be declared the first, second, and third place champions. The awards for the champions would be special "Champion Duelist" weapons, of which there would be one type for each sponsoring faction: for example, TPG's "Champion Duelist" weapon might be a Falcon Blaster, identical to the Sparrow Blaster, except with a 15m/s higher shot velocity. The first place champion would recieve six "Champion Duelist" weapons from the his sponsoring faction, the second place would recieve four, and the third place would recieve two, from their respective sponsoring factions.

For the intrafaction championships, they would be similar to the international championships, except that the duelists would only duel other duelists who were registered with the same faction, rather than with duelists registered with any faction. These intrafaction championships would award 3 "Champion Duelist" wepons for first place, 2 for second place, and 1 for third place, in each faction that had an intrafaction championship.

Some thoughts on possibilities for the "Champion Duelist" weapons for some factions. These are meant to be somewhat better than most weapons, as they are intended as "epic" weapons, but they are meant to be amoung the more common "epic" weapons, and therefore shouldn't be too good.

TPG Falcon Blaster, identical to TPG Sparrow Blaster except with 25m/s higher velocity.

Orion XGX-XD Blaster, identical to Orion XGX Blaster, but with 200 more damage (150% the XGX).

Corvus High Velocity Lightweight (HVL) Rails: See the link in Phaserlight's post to terjekv's suggestion, possibly with a lower energy drain per shot than terjekv suggested.

Itani Improved Neutron Blaster, identical to the Neutron Blaster MkII, but with 300kg mass (50% the N2).

Serco Special Screamer Rockets, identical to the Screamer Rockets, but with 30 energy per blast (50% the Screamer), and a 15m wider splash radius.

Advanced Xang Xi MegaPositron Blaster, identical to the MegaPositron Blaster, but with a wider autoaim cone.
