The Gauntlet Is Thrown Down

The clang of metal on metal woke up Obsidian. She rubbed her eyes and tried to get her bearings in the darkened room. She glanced over at the clock and wondered how long she had been asleep. It was a few hours before she would normally get up. She quickly grabbed her robe and went to the door. It opened with a soft whoosh. Obsidian’s jaw dropped in shock. Could it be? Oh the horror!. There, laying on the floor in front of her cabin was the starboard stabilizing wing of an axia wraith. It was covered in blaster marks but it still had traces of the paint…. Magenta Pink to be exact.

ARGHH! She screamed and fell to her knees to inspect the twisted metal. Could this really be from her ship?

Obsidian ran her hand over the paint and looked for the distinct xith flecks she had embedded into the paint to give it her personal touch. This was from her ship. What had they done to it?

She carefully picked up the wing and turned it over. On the bottom a single sentence was etched.

“Abandon all hopes of mining in the Black of Space”

Obsidian did have another mining expedition planned in Dau for the up coming Friday.
Did this announce the return of the infamous BLAK guild?

“I’m not going to let this stop my plans. I know there are plenty of miners with strong constitutions and defenders ready to stand by our side. I will not back down from a threat. I will not be bullied.” Obsidian said to no one in particular as she went back into her quarters to start making arrangements for the mining expedition.

It certainly wasn't from my axia wraith, mine is deep blue.

A few weeks before, BLAK had only been really back for a few days I was contacted via subspace text com. The name was random but judging from the information given and the fact that I got half the money up front. Well the person had my attention to say the least.

From what I could tell the person or persons, had been losing money due to the TFGT mining expeditions. That whole price and demand thing had raised it's ugly head I guess. Not that I cared all that much one way or the other, money was money.

The op was easy or so I thought, all I had to to was stop the mining trip using any means I thought would work. I got some guys together and we waited for the miners to move.

When we jumped in the first time resistance was light, they where only thinking they would have to fight bots, on our first run we killed a few miners.

The job was going nicely till about our third run, the traders had galvanized in rage at our attacks. I had with me a light raiding party of 6 pirates max most of the time it was only 4 of us though. Gavan and Martin, got ripped off by the UIT guys who sold them their ships and got stuck in an empty sector when the jump drives failed.

The traders on the other hand where able to get a rag tag bunch of ships and give us a vary hard time. After math intel suggests we had as many as 15 traders attacking the 4-6 of us. The shear numbers overwhelmed us. THough we still did get many kills the miners still managed to get the ore they needed the expedition was called a success and our op was failed.

We still got enough money for me to pay the guys that helped me and brake even but just barely. And my benefactor was unsure if I would be needed for another op.

A few days later I was running thought all that went down on that last op, wondering what I could do should there be a next time. I watched any thing I could that had any thing to do with this Obsidian. She was the head of the mining expeditions, high ranked member of TFGT, female, mid 20s from what I could tell, greatly liked by most.

On a personal level, she was not all that happy with the conformity of being in a guild, she was allegedly part of a secret society called "guides" who where a bunch of do-gooders I had no problem with.

I called around and found out all I could on her, she seemed to have some thing of a cult following among many of the newer and most of the older pilots. Killing her was out. Even if it looked like an accident the traders would carry on the mining in her name. I had to get to her on a personal level.

One thing I have found in life is that every one has secrets. Preverbal skeletons in the closet. It took some digging but I found what I guess you could call was hers.

A friend I had in Sedina had met her once sold her a nice vintage Axia wraith. One of the first made. Now then at first I ignored it knowing she flys them as combat ships, and that she can't aim them at any thing to save her life.

But later on I found that she only flys standard ones, which means she is keeping the old one safe some where. Knowing some people place great efection on their ships I knew I may have found a way of getting to her.

I took alotta digging but I found the small dock yard in Odia. Cool thing about Odia is it's vary corrupt took me a few bribes to get in to her spot. The ship was vary nice at least worth 100k. She putt alotta work into it, and pained it hot pink. As a member of TFGT she was not allowed to do that. I smiled as I realized know one would ever find out about this other then me and her. Or at least she would never admit it was true.

After the deed was done I took a pice of her ship to the small apartment she lived in, the lock was easily by-passed and I was inside in a few seconds. I walked too the bed room, she was asleep. I walked back into the living room by the main door. I looked around, the roof was not all that high, but she had a window I opened it and climbed out side fortunately she was on the bottom floor so I could just stand out there.

I chucked the pice of mettle at the front door and it clattered to the ground. It did not take her long to run out. I smiled as I saw the look on her face and heard her scream. Then the smile faded as I heard her mumble,

“I’m not going to let this stop my plans. I know there are plenty of miners with strong constitutions and defenders ready to stand by our side. I will not back down from a threat. I will not be bullied.”

I walked out to my ship, she was not gonna be easy to deal with I thought. I entered my ship and saw I had a message on my com. It was from the person.

"I heard there was a vandal in Odia, I may have another job for you? Ever done any mining? I'll be in touch."

I grinned.
