BLAK.HELL version 2.0

I'm pretty sure I spell checked this one. But don't yell at me about that kind of thing. Just read the story.

BLAK.HELL version 2.0

He was genuinely surprised how easy it had been. He had been expecting more defenses, and had found that the hack had not come close to properly attending to his skills. Now was not the time to dwell on the faults of his new guild, but rather time to implement the plan that had been in the making over the past month and a half. Borb quickly did a search for BLAK.HELL, and came up with nothing. Nada. Zippo. Something must be wrong he thought, it was surely still here. Flags were flying now, pointing to his presence, and he didn't have much time. He knew that he could easily cover his tracks, if he could find what he wanted soon. He next tried a search for “Leviathan” and found what he was looking for. The entry read: A hypothesized creature of the hive with powers so unimaginable, that we have no idea what they will be. It is the ultimate hive bot, and can spawn any other hive bot by the hundreds. Rumors that the ultimate monster had made an appearance, and was defeated by members of the BLAK guild have circulated. Rumor also has it that a virus, BLAK.HELL, was all that stopped the ship from taking over the universe.

That was it. That was what he needed. He highlighted “BLAK.HELL” and did a return loop on its source code. Sure enough, it was hiding under several levels of encryption, and had therefore not shown up on his earlier search. This was nothing Borb could not handle. He undid the varying encryptions one by one. The helix crack, the elliptical curve, the hyperbolic locks, all fell one by one. Borb finally was at the virus.

He hit the return key to transfer the virus to his own personal storage in Sedina D14. All pirates had storage there, and no one ever checked to see what it was being used for. Borb had been careful to not let the virus leak out, for if that happened there would be no telling the effects.

Later that week...

In a bar in Jallik, Borb and Smittens were having a jolly good time. LeberMac had accidentally left open his wine cooler, and Borb knew that he could use it to his advantage. After he had gotten Smittens drunk enough, Borb pulled Smittens into a back room. There, he threatened him with a black sock, and a steel toed boot, until Smittens could take it no longer. Borb was given Lieutenant status in the IA guild the next day, in a cheerfully ceremony. Few if any held suspicions about Borb being let in. After all, he had come fully clean hadn't he?

Ukari D12...

“Round it up boys, I think this is the final call.”

“Yeah, I sure hope so sir. We all know how much damage these things have been causing.”

“It's a good thing we got the rogue one, we can take it to the base and figure out what was making it tick.”
Somewhere in Oida...

“Good work Borb, I was sure we could count on you to take this dangerous mission. I wasn't sure of your intentions, so I didn't let you come on the first raid, but after seeing your work within the Viper guild and now in the Itani Alliance, I am sure we can count on you to be a vital part of this team.”

Borb beamed as he heard the compliments from his leader and mentor Shape. Borb had long looked up to Shape, and was very proud about being finally admitted into his plans.

“There is still one thing I need from you” Shape said in his soothing voice.

“What is it boss, whatever it is, I can get it for you.”

“I need you to make sure that that border patrol unit does not make it to VPR headquarters as planned. Instead I want you to bring it here to me.”

“No problem boss. One border patrol unit on the way.” Borb said as he headed out the door.

“Wait. There is one thing. Whatever you do, don't get caught.”

“Don't get caught, got it boss.”

Borb set out in his specially equipped Centurion. It was an Orion make and model, but it was one that hadn't been seen by the universe until now. Borb had Shape to thank for that too. On this ship was a Very Large port, which had equipped to it, a tractor beam. He knew that it was going to be a piece of cake to steal the ship from the Vipers, after all, they were a loose bunch, and didn't really have good organization.

On his way to steal the ship, Borb caught up with a friend and guild mate of his, Amelia. He had known her for only a short time before BLAK had gone one leave to let the whole BLAK.HELL business settle down, but he felt a special bond with her. It wasn't romance or anything like that, although Borb was sure that it could become that if he wanted it to. They were merely friends.

“Hey, I got this assignment from Shape, want to come help?”

“Sure, I've got nothing else to do, I just finished dealing with a pesky pilot who kept annoying me, and I'm looking for a challenge.”

“Great, we have to steal a ship from the Vipers, and bring it back to Shape.”

Amelia ditched her ship, and hopped into the cockpit of Borb's. As they traveled, Borb filled her in on all the doings of the BLAK guild since it had gone underground. He wasn't sure that he was giving her the full picture, because he suspected that even he did not know all that was going on.

“There they are” said Amelia, as they entered Ukari, in front of us, about 2000m away.

“Cool, they wont know what is coming.” said Borb as he quickly put the ship in cloak mode, again courtesy of Shape.

VPR freighter...

“Sir, unknown pilot appeared off our rear, disappeared quickly so I don't know what to make of it.”

“Keep scanning for it. If it doesn't show up, don't worry about it, if it does, be sure to tell me.”

The cloaked ship was nearing, and was almost ready to begin its attack.

“Sir, there must be something wrong with our instruments, there is a warp in the gravitic field, but I don't see a ship that would be caus...” he never finished that sentence.

Borb opened fire when his ship was within 50m of the freighter. He wasn't worried about damaging the border patrol unit because it was a separate ship, and would be easier to get out with the tractor beam if the freighter was almost dead. He would have to work fast now because shooting at them had surely alerted them to his presence. Thankfully Shape had been able to provide some extra kick to his weapons. Borb was beginning to think that there was nothing that Shape couldn't do. Circling the freighter he pounded it with round after round of super charged plasma energy.

The big ship had less than 50% of its armor left, and it was still falling fast. While Borb was working on the ship, Amelia was working on getting the tractor beam ready, and positioning it so that it would drag the border patrol unit with them and not the freighter. This was going to be a tricky maneuver because the particular model that the border patrol chip had been planted in was the vulture, which was a great ship, except for the wing struts which had a tenancy to fall apart if the inside of a wing was clipped. They had to get it out of the docking bay and close to the centurion so that Amelia could fly it to Shape.

The freighter had about 10% armor left. Borb decided that now was the time to try to remove the vulture. He made one last check to see that the defenses of the ship had been removed, and then positioned his ship in front of the cargo access hatch. It was large enough on this ship to fit even a pair of behemoths.

Borb hacked into the ship's control system, which was now very badly damaged. He was worried for a bit that it would not be able to open the hatches, but when he pressed the button, the hatches swung open, albeit much slower than they normally would. He lowered the ship into its final position, while Amelia activated the tractor beam. There was the border patrol unit, sitting right in front of them. It was the regular uit yellow, and from the outside, appeared to be a regular vulture. The beam locked onto the ship, and Amelia pulled it out of the freighter. Borb positioned his ship so that Amelia would have only a very short distance to get to the border patrol unit. The plan was that she would pilot it, while Borb led the way back to Shape.

“Ok there Amelia” Borb called over the encrypted comm channel.

“Everything's good to go” she called back.

“Good, follow me” was his reply.

He lead her through Latos and Sedina. Both systems represented no problem for the pair, and they were soon in Oida. A passing trader was their only other company. Suddenly, Amelia lost all control of the ship. It twisted and turned and charged around the sector like a crazed observer bot.

“What are you doing?” called Borb.

“I... I don't know what is going on!” shrieked Amelia, “I don't have any control any more.”

The border patrol unit sent out a message to the passing trader bot. The bot then successfully managed to jump right into a series of ion storms, and before it was killed it sent a message to one of the arklan guardians attacking it.

The border patrol unit was locked in Borb's tractor beam, and Amelia was able to jettison the ship, and was rescued by Borb. He downloaded the ship's memory and log files to his ship's computer, destroyed the ship, and sent a message to Shape. Shape would be very interested in this latest development, and would probably be the only one who could crack the code from the bot and figure out what was wrong.

A pleasant day in Dau...

Klox was content with the guild he had created. So what if none of his come rads ever showed up for work? If it was fine with them sitting around all day, then it was fine with him too. He glanced at the moving scene projected into the air by his new holo set. Racers were zipping in and out of a maze somewhere in sedina, blowing each other up in the process. The Vendetta Racing League was one of the most popular events in the galaxy, and was broadcast anywhere a sentient being might be to watch it. Klox got up to go take a nap, when his comm buzzed.

He answered the call.

“The collector bots, I don't know what has happened to them.” said ViciousNanite, “I was just mining here when all of a sudden, about 300 of them jumped into the sector all at once. I considered running when i saw about 20 arklan guardians come in with them, but they didn't seem interested in me at all. I flew out to a safe distance and watched as all of the collector bots started circling one of the arklans. They were circling very close, and it was hard to make out individual bots. The other arklans began firing repair nanites of all things into the mass of bots, and then it happened so fast. I'm not sure exactly what I saw. One minute, the nanites were just going around in the swarm, and the next it looked like they had built a single huge ship. It was about twice the size of a capitol ship, and no where near as neat looking. What is going on out here?”

Klox had a suspicion, and if it was true, then his guild buddies were going to have to wake up really fast and get out there.

Meanwhile in Sedina B8...

The day was going fine for Zet. He had recently cut all ties to his past, and was now working as a pirate. There hadn't been much pirating to do, but he hadn't been at a loss for other things. Players were always coming to sedina B8 to try to prove how tough they were, often yelling “Yarr!” and pretending to be pirates, if only for show. Zet however was different. He didn't go around yelling “Yarr!” and was in fact a much better pirate than the people who did...

Anyway. Zet was circling B8, looking for a fight. He knew one would show up eventually. Sure enough, one showed up, and it was more than Zet had bargained for.

Reports were beginning to circulate that the hive was acting funny. People botting reported of new bots showing up in the sectors where they were botting. Miners reported dying when a queen came into the previously empty sector. Zet reported dying when a group of 3 queens came into Sedina B8, and had tried to duel him. They had won.

[100]<Klox> all fighters wishing to explore the new hive threat should sign up with me.

Almost immediately, Klox was the leader of a group of 8 pilots who set out to find out what was going on with the hive. They began exploring sectors in Oida, where the leviathan was rumored to be. They were not having luck finding the leviathan.

A pilot showed up and claimed he had found and destroyed the leviathan. His name was yodaofborg.

Well this is certainly an interesting progression in roleplaying threads. Up until now everyone has written about their own characters. Interesting.

Gavan goes to shoot iTripped for leaving him out of the story.

Hehe. I get a mention and I barely know the guy.
(And it's crates and crates of Old Earth Tequila which Holdan is now the guardian of, not a teeney little cooler for WINE...)
