Deneb Run #33

Feb 11, 2006 Screwball link
TGFT and EnB will again be hosting The Deneb Run this weekend.

*** The TIME will be 22:00 (10:00 PM) GMT Saturday (5 PM EDT) ***

This is to better enable European players to participate. The plan is to alternate between 22:00 GMT on Saturday and 02:00 GMT on Sunday.

Check /time if you are confused about GMT.

*** New VO Client not-allowed due to battery exploit ***

All citizens are welcome to race, there is no entrance fee, and 4 Million credits in prizes are available. Some of it could be yours!

Once again, the rules are:

1) Racers must race from Odia M14 through Deneb heading clockwise back to Odia M14.
2) Race starts in Odia M14 near the station.
3) Contestants must be within 100m of me before the start
4) No shooting before I start the race.
5) You die and you're out (so no /exploding)
6) All weapons and ships allowed, except those listed in #10.
7) First person to get back and dock at Odia M14 wins the first prize. (2 million credits)
8) Second person back gets 2nd place prize (1.2 million credits)
9) Third person back gets 3rd place prize (800k credits)
10) No Valkyries allowed.
11) Racers must use the standard VO client, not the new one in testing.
12) If there are at least 3 racers, and less than 3 racers complete The Deneb Run, the undistributed prize money will be awarded to those who killed the racers as follows:
- The most recent kill gets the highest unawarded prize
- The 2nd most recent kill gets the second highest unawarded prize
- etc.

Example: If 1 racer finishes, the player that had the last kill of a racer will receive a 1.2 million credit prize, and the player that had the 2nd most recent kill would receive 800k credits.

I believe this is a good way of saying thanks to those who help spice things up for the racers.

Please reply to this thread if you intend to race.

I can't believe I've never got in on one of these. This sounds like a lot of fun.

Announcing the results of The Deneb Run #33, sponsored by TGFT and EnB.

The Pilots
----------
Blue Streak: Itani, formerly known as MonkofAkan, he is the winningest racer in The Deneb Run.

Joyce Sanders: UIT, commander of SB and co-hostess at the Makchuga, she is a veteran racer that usually places in the top 3.

Spaceranger: UIT, member of TGFT, he's fast and a veteran racer, but he has yet to finish a race.

Mick: UIT, he previously competed in The Deneb Run #30.

The Race
--------
(Special thanks to Erik C./Blue Streak for the writeup)

The 33rd weekly race known s the Deneb Run began as it always did, with the crackle of AGT fire from the MC. All the racers but Spaceranger opted for the indirect route, avoiding a storm that caught up Spaceranger. First to the wormhole was Blue Streak, quickly followed by Mick. Somehow, Spaceranger managed to pull ahead of Joyce Sanders, who was now in 4th. The racers zoomed through Sedina, bypassing another storm which Spaceranger stumbled into, allowing Joyce Sanders to pull ahead of him.

Blue Streak had pulled a full jump ahead of Mick, entering Ukari. Spaceranger was now sixteen seconds behind Joyce Sanders as she slowly gained on the 2nd place Mick. Breazle awaited the racers in Ukari A-10 but did no damage as they slipped by. Blue Streak kept pulling ahead of Mick, now three jumps ahead as he entered Pyronis. Mick was third in Ukari A-10, Joyce Sanders now only a mere second behind him. Spaceranger had pulled ahead of those two by a few seconds. Black 2 greeted the trailing racers.

Blue Streak continued to lead, entering Betheshee as Spaceranger entered Sol II not seventeen seconds ahead of Joyce Sanders. Mick was 4th, now just entering Dantia. Blue Streak met the SMV Nemesis and Bohemian72 in Betheshee D-2, but managed to scrape by both. He pulled ahead of Bohmeian, evading him as he entered Deneb. Spaceranger was now in Geira Rutilus with Joyce Sanders a jump behind. Mick was now exiting Sol II.

The race continued, racers being spread thin. Blue Streak was now in Metana, with Spaceranger being chased by Itani strike forces in Eo. Joyce Sanders was entering Deneb and Mick was just coming into Geira Rutilus. Mick was slowly gaining on Joyce Sanders in Itani space, bypassing her in Cantus as he pulled ahead into Metana. Spaceranger was fleeing for his life in Setalli Shinas as Blue Streak zoomed into Artana Aquilus. He met Graig daOne in Divinia but could not be hurt by him. This was bad news for the other raacers though, as they were Union and could be hurt by the itani.

Blue Streak was racing into Bractus, running away with it as Spaceranger just hit Divinia... and Graig. He lost a third of his armor and ran away towards the other wormhole. He was pulling into jalilk along with Mick when Blue Streak docked for the win. Joyce Sanders was now in Pherona, still trooping on in 4th. Spaceranger was pulling slightl ahead of Mick, so much so that he was a good forty secconds or so ahead entering into the race finish sector. There he met Blue Streak, taking fir from him but docking for second nonetheless. Mick was next into the sector and raced for the dock. As he was attempted to dock, though, rockets from Blue Streak caused him to bounce like a ping pong ball inside the dock and explode. Joyce anders would come in a minut or two later and dock safely for third place.

The Stats
---------
Erik C.: | 29:14 | Vulture MkI, fc, 2x iceflare
Spaceranger: | 35:43 | Warthog MkII, fc, no weaps
Joyce Sanders: | 41:25 | Warthog TD, fc, Neut MkII
Mick: | DNF | Orion Hornet, fc, no weaps

Interesting observations:

1) Blue Streak won this in less than 30 minutes!

2) Despite moving this race earlier to accommodate the European players, only Mick was actually from Europe, and I think he suffered from a higher ping than the other racers. If we get enough European racers, then perhaps we should try some sort of minimum ping rule. That or figure out how to increase the speed of light...

3) This is the first time in recent history that Orion's Hornet Convoy Guardian was not represented in the finishers.

Isn't this the first time a Convoy guardian didn't even finish, let alone place, in forever!?! O.o

Good point. I'll add that.

@Moldy: Do you want your name in the top 50 to be Bluestreak or Erik or Monk? Do you want the older names changed to your current one?

Either way, you get 4th top time, SR takes 50th. Bumping out Maximian's time of 35:49 with an Orion Hornet and Harpo's 35:50 time with a Cent mkII. This leaves only one Cent mkII time btw.

And stop with that battery exploit ;-)

Very few racers, and few pirates, too. I say we bump it back up; europeans were either absent or not interested.
