EnB and TGFT will again be hosting The Deneb Run this weekend.

*** PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE RACE TIME. ***

I'm running this week's race in the later time slot because I'm actually on the road this week and won't be available during the earlier time slot. That also means I won't be able to host the TeamSpeak server this week. Apologies to the European players. I'll switch to the earlier time slot next week.

*** The TIME will be 02:00 GMT Sunday (9 PM EDT) ***

The plan is to alternate between 22:00 GMT on Saturday and 02:00 GMT on Sunday.

Check /time if you are confused about GMT.

Once again, the rules are:

1) Racers must race from Odia M14 through Deneb heading clockwise back to Odia M14.
2) Race starts in Odia M14 near the station.
3) Contestants must be within 100m of me before the start
4) No shooting before I start the race.
5) You die and you're out (so no /exploding)
6) All weapons and ships allowed, except those listed in #10.
7) First person to get back and dock at Odia M14 wins the first prize. (2 million credits)
8) Second person back gets 2nd place prize (1.2 million credits)
9) Third person back gets 3rd place prize (800k credits)
10) No Valkyries allowed.
11) Money for killing other racers: Any pilot, racing or not, is eligible to earn money as follows:

Pre-condition #1: There must be at least 3 racers
Pre-condition #2: Less than 3 racers complete The Deneb Run
If the above pre-conditions are met, the undistributed prize money will be awarded to those who killed the racers as follows:
- Kills in the Odia M-14 sector are not eligible
- The most recent eligible kill earns the highest unawarded prize money (2 mil, 1.2 mil, 800k, or 0)
- The 2nd most recent eligible kill earns the 2nd highest unawarded prize money (1.2 mil, 800k, or 0)
- The 3rd most recent eligible kill earns the 3rd highest unawarded prize money (800k or 0)

I believe this is a good way of saying thanks to those who help spice things up for the racers, without encouraging station camping (which is too easy).

Please reply to this thread if you intend to race.

I'm surprised Jex gets any news in that garbage scow.

Still haven't figured out an escape route, have you, Jex?

The Race-Make-Fun Squad needs your support!

To make the race more fun and exciting you have to do just one thing: Kill them racers! Crush their cockpits, turn their ships into scrap, spill their blood onto the spacelanes!

Use ANY means nessessary!

To offset expenses I'll give you 500K for every racer that you prevented entering the m14 station in one piece. Even the pathetic excuses of human waste products who take part in the race can collect the money. Show that you're more than an ape in a speedboat!

Station Camping encouraged!

You may get another 200K per kill if all racers die!

You are correct, Jex. It would normally be an earlier race this week. However, I am not able to run it in that timeslot today and expect a unique opportunity to be able to run it in the later timeslot, so I'm bumping it to then. I'll talk more about the unique opportunity if it materializes.

I *might* be able to race, depending on whether or not my mother finishes grading papers in front of the VO computer by tonight.

I'd like to thank the Anti-Pirate Squadron for a job well done. All four combat pilots of excellent skill got one million credits each for their hard work. Keep it up guys. And thank to their leader, mecha, for getting the team together :)

Hi all.

I'm travelling for most of the day today, so the results page will be up either late tonight or tomorrow.

[Edit: The good news, I'm home all safe and sound. The bad news, I left the log files on my work laptop which is now at work. Doh! Check again tomorrow night.]

Announcing the results of The Deneb Run #39, sponsored by TGFT and EnB.

Special thanks to Blue Streak and Miharu for getting things organized when I was late and for helping announce the race.

The Pilots
----------
Blue Streak: Itani, member of SB, the most succesful racer of The Deneb Run, as well as one of the more constant participants, part-time race host, and the one who writes up the Race section below.

Mick: UIT, a veteran racer who placed 2nd last week.

Spaceranger: Serco, member of TGFT, veteran racer, he finished 4th last week.

John Rambler: UIT, council member of TGFT, he is a veteran racer with a couple of top 3 finishes.

Stranger: recently switched from UIT to Itani, he is a veteran racer who placed 4th in The Deneb Run #36.

Mike-L: Serco, member of SCAR, a veteran racer that has yet to finish a race.

BUNNY: Serco, council member and Lieutenant of SCAR, this is her second race.

Cobalt314: Serco, council member of EnB, this is his second race.

Illusion: Itani, this is his first race.

Brian Gilbear: UIT, this is his first race.

The Race
--------
[Special thanks to Joyce Sanders for this writeup.]

Screwball gave the starting shot and the racers took off. MonkofAkan quickly took the lead, followed closely by BUNNY, Stranger, Mick and Cobalt314; all others hit the same Odia storm, leaving them behind. The pilots rushed into the first hurdle, Sedina B-8, and while the forerunners went by without a hitch, the pilots behind them drew fire. John Rambler was hit and taken out by Seton-Ro Stalis before he could jump to Latos, and first blood was drawn.

While Mick and MonkofAkan struggled to pass one another BUNNY was outdistancing them, setting up a lead she was to maintain for the remainder of the race; however, the pirates took Mick out shortly before he hit Ukari, leaving MonkofAkan in second place. The rest of the racers kept going, avoiding the pirates; Brian Gilbear in particular having a close call at this time.

MonkofAkan tried to catch up to BUNNY, who was always a system ahead, while the rest of the pilots piled up behind, the gap widening; Brian Gilbear in particular seemed to possess the LeberMac touch and kept hitting storm after storm. Mike-L, damaged but alive, decided to take a pit stop to repair, while Stranger had gambled on the Rhamus route only to hit a storm as well. It was then that Illusion was caught by the Dominion defense forces and taken out, ending his bid for one of the prizes.

BUNNY widened her lead further as she left the Dominion, Blue Streak behind and Stranger and Spaceranger behind him; the rest of the pilots' positions had scrambled as storms and pit stops occurred. However, the pirates would strike again and Mr. spuck's pet hamster took out Stranger before he could exit Geira Rutilus. Spaceranger caught up to MonkofAkan as they entered Deneb and then MonkofAkan hit a storm, Spaceranger taking second place, though the Itani pilot was furiously trying to catch up less than a jump away; and to top it all off Mr spuck's hamster struck again, destroying Brian Gilbear's ship.

So as the race entered Itan, BUNNY was first, followed by Spaceranger, MonkofAkan and Cobalt314; Mike-L was still alive, but so far back in Geira Rutilus his only hope for a prize would be for the pirates to take out two more racers (this was to occur, but not in a manner he was going to like). Spaceranger began to slowly but firmly outdistance MonkofAkan, who in turn was too far away from Cobalt314 to worry about him catching up.

The lead pilots finally exited the Itani nation, and MonkofAkan took a risk in order to catch up to Spaceranger that paid off. The pirates now concentrated on BUNNY, but she managed to evade them to the last, finishing the Run in first place with ease. Back in Bractus, MonkofAkan's instincts paid off and avoided a storm that snagged Spaceranger, snatching back second place... if he could run the pirate blockade; of course, MonkofAkan had hired Mecha Touriuas to defend him from pirates, and Mecha had assembled a group of fighters to that end, and so MonkofAkan docked for second place as Mr spuck was taken out by Mecha and his team of defenders. Spaceranger had less trouble docking and took third place, though he was fuming at losing second. Dissatisfied with his poor performance against the lead racers, Mr spuck took out Cobalt314, denying him the bragging rights of finishing the Run, and then prepared to take out Mike-L and his racing Moth. BUNNY tried to stop him, and Mike-L managed to enter Odia M-14, but it was to no avail: Hell hath no fury like a Mr spuck scorned, and he blasted Mike-L before he could dock, thus ending the Run.

The Stats
---------
BUNNY | 31:02 | Vulture MkI, FC batt, no weaps
Blue Streak | 33:04 | Vulture MkI, FC batt, no weaps
Spaceranger | 33:36 | Orion Hornet, FC batt, no weaps
Mike-L | DNF | Behemoth, FC batt, 1x Prox Mine, 1x Conc Mine
Cobalt314 | DNF | Vulture MkI, FC batt, 2x Neutron Blaster MkII
Brian Gilbear | DNF |Warthog TD, FC batt, no weaps
Stranger | DNF | Warthog MkII, FC batt, 1x Plasma HX
Illusion | DNF | Ragnarok MkIII, Heavy batt, 3x Neutron Blaster, 1x Plasma Dev, 1x Gatling Turret
Mick | DNF |Vulture MkI, FC batt, no weaps
John Rambler | DNF | Vulture MkIV, FC batt, 2x Iceflare Rocket

Interesting observations:

1. Racing tactics continue to evolve. This race marks, I think, the first time a racer has hired mercenaries to combat the pirates haunting the race course. It worked... for that racer, at least.

I hired Martin once to kill people hanging around in Odia M-14, but it turned out that he was unnecessary. I still paid him. :) from my first-place winnings...
