Of Men An Monsters

Quickly I bushed the long hair behind one of my ears in an attempt to keep it out my face as I worked. Two guards lay dead the others would not be back for hours.

I looked around the bay as I finished hoping no one had seen me.

"Your clear. Another job well done."

I said under my breath as I glanced at the reflection of my self in the side of my ship. I had for the first time in my life not only grown shoulder length hair but had also grown a now shaved beard. I had pared down my implants as much as possible along time ago to blend in better, now with all the hair it was impossible to tell I was not Itani, much less that I was me.

I had shaved the beard off this morning before I went to have a talk with my old "friend" Miharu. She wanted to after all this time of not talking to be say some how I owed her for our friendship and needed to let Lecter rot.

I she had to leave the meeting early due to some thing "important" I'm sure. I saw there in her bar stewing over my own rage, not only had she yanked me around to do some favor for her under the guise of friendship but she had left like my time meant nothing.

But that's fine, it's all over now. She sent me a long message a few hours later listing a long line of reasons for why Lecter should be left to die. Do I care? No. I already know Lecter is evil and should be killed, that's old news. So I told her such in addition to the fact that I would still be saving him and that I no longer needed pretend friends so she could kindly never talk to me again. Knowing her that will most likely not matter she likes to run her mouth worse then me.

But all that aside I'm sure your wondering why I look like a blue hippy and why all this for some one even I think is scum. Well it's really easy.

What better way to save some one from prison then to become one of his guards.

As for why Lecter. Well that's kinda long so take a seat.

This is a time of war, and believe it or not many times in war horrible men and women are needed to do "Things" which others can not or will not. Take me, while I have never raped any one I am still a criminal. I've murdered my way across all three nation spaces many times, having personally killed thousands of people in little over a years time with many of them dyeing at my feet as I wiped my bloody hands off. And yes many of them where civilians.

I've been involved with terrorist factions, as well as pirate organizations and have part took in many crimes of espionage, terrorism, vandalism, and computer cracking.

In many ways I'm as bad if not more bad then Lecter. I'm sure many wife's, husbands, brothers or sisters could tell similar stories of great loss, about how they awoke one morning to
find their loved ones dead in bed by my hand.

And yet I still roam free. Why? Because I have been granted my freedom by nations that want me. Lets face it some one that can kill with out thought or emotion in a time of war is greatly needed. The deaths and destruction that should condemn me have become my resume.

The same is true with Lecter. Sure after the war is over we may face war crime charges but for now we are both free.

Why you ask? Why would I do such an evil thing after having heard all
the stories? Why, because I'm getting paid very good to do so first of all. Second, there is much more to this then just you or Lecter. And lastly because for the first time in a very long time I feel alive again, I am no longer a tool of some one else, I am my own man and I am back doing what I love. I'm braking the rules and loving every second of it while getting paid exorbitant amounts to do so.

A few weeks back high command first asked me to do this. Offering much pay, freedom too do just about any thing I wanted with out them ever touching me again an a reason to save him. It would seem much more is going on with in Itan then mock trials. At this time even in my privet logs I can not talk of what it is, but for now we will just say it is some thing both my self and the good Doctor are intimately familiar with, some thing much more then just a mad mans quest for war.

The job was easy enough once I obtained membership with in Itan I was some how asked to guard Lecter. It seemed they picked the new guys for this as if they wanted Lecter to be freed. I even thought I once was detected as a Serco by some scanners they had set up in case we where inflitrated. Nothing ever came of it how ever other then lost hours of sleep on my part. Maybe they did want to loose him. Either way from what Serco intel showed me we would be needing him in the months to come so it was a job that needed to be done at all costs.

Lecter was freed a few hours ago after a long drawn out fake transfer of Lecter to some holding cell in Itani space. What boggles my mind is why Mogul did it. I have freed Lecter hours before the transfer was to take place. I had to keep him drugged as they did inject some very odd things into his body making him dilusional. But all that aside why did they go on with the transfer. I guess for once there is some thing I don't know.

Reguardless of this I do know many Itani will curse the name of Borb and his alias St. Jimmy, for freeing such an evil man.

But at least they will be around to curse that name. I may be evil in my own way but I still believe I am fighting no matter how many morals I must ignore for the good fight and the betterment of humanity. For now that is all I have left, my ideals of actions for a higher reason, and the support of my loyal Serco Team Six.

"Please have a seat Commander."

After thinking things over I decided far to many things just did not mesh, so a few jumps and some turbing later I landed on Sol II. I had just told one of the head sheds with the Triumvirate that I wanted to have a little chat now or I would start becoming an unproductive Serco citizen.

"I'd rather stand." I said after staring the man down for a few seconds. I wouldn't say I was mad persay, but at the same time I was not happy. Well ok I was pissed, I hate being left out of the loop.

"Um ok... Care for some thing to drink?"

"No, what happened tonight?"

"Well let's see you freed Lecter, Mogul is crazy and every one knows it now, your name is cleared with high command, and your a very rich man."

"Uh huh. Ok now I'm going to tell you what happened and then your going to tell me why."

I felt some joy as he shifted in his seat in unease.

"Ok, yes I did free Lecter. Right, that's the first problem. It was easy, a cake walk, any one could have done it why did I get 3 big Bs for it?'

"Your very good at what you do of course it was..."

"Don't!" I let my words hang in the air as I heard the door knob being touched by a some thing, no doubt the guards out side wondering if they should come in or not.

"I'm sorry, is some thing wrong?"

"Look, I'm the one that does this for a living not you I know how good I am, and how easy or hard it should be, and I'll tell you this was to easy. Why 3 billion for this when you could have send some half brained guise to do it."

"Are you not happy with the pay?"

"Fine, but no. Keep the money I want some thing more." Again I watched him shift as I slammed the small case on the table.

"More?"

"Yes, I want Countship."

"What?"

"Countship of Betheshee, all the stations pay me a small tax and I get a nice summer home there as well as management of the goings on there. Also I want ST6 to be under my sole control, not high commands."

"Uhh..."

"Or I can start prying and spreading rumors..." I could swear I was watching the man develop a tic in his left eye, it was interesting to say the least.

"I'm sure we can arrange some thing that is satisfactory..."

"I'm sure. Now then next after I saved Lecter, Mogul goes nuts. Why."

"It may have some thing to do with things..." He let his voice trail off an looked me dead in the eye. For once he did not shift.

"I see."

"Will there be any thing else?"

"No for now I'm content, have some one get some one to find me a good contractor to build my summer home in Betheshee."

And with that hanging in the air and once again a look of dread on his face I turned around and walk back to my ship thinking things over as I did.

The bid for Countship was largely for kicks but also to see if they would do it, I was interested in how high the stakes would be. When I was first contacted about this I knew 3 bill was high for some thing like this but Countship? They don't even have Counts any more, and free money for the rest of my life. It's to much, far to much for some thing I could have done as Faceless when he was nothing but a burned little stub.

I may not be the smartest guy around but I know a coverup when I see one. Some thing is going on and what ever it is it's bigger then I thought. Did I see some thing I should not have? What did I do? Am I missing some thing? WHAT IS IT!

On the ride up here I saw some of the news, it would seem some SCAR guys some how found some "super" secret papers of Moguls. Now I'm not going to say SCAR is a bad bunch or that they don't know what they are doing. I mean many of my best men have come from SCAR. But I will say the average IQ of a SCAR member is some what low. So how come they just happen to stumble on some thing like this?

The new keeps saying Mogul is crazy but I can't help wondering... Maybe he is playing us all for fools. Is he really inept or is he a far greater foe then I would have ever thought possible.

All I know so far is this has cost me time, money, friends, and sanity. Sure the things I got where nice but I'm starting to wonder, and how does my nation fit into all of this.

You're getting arrogant old friend. I ask you, please don't steal anymore of our members. If you want to level them up and train them, recruit them yourselves. We're also smarter than you think, we didn't stumble on anything, keep this in account.

As a recruiting member of ST6 I can assure you A-Dawg, ST6 does not have a policy of seeking SCAR members...the ones we have approached us wishing something more than they were getting there....

By the way, I admire the way SCAR is cleaning up...I am afraid it will be harder to find recruits with two fine guilds to choose from....

I can attest to that, being ex-SCAR gone ST6. We have no outstanding issues with SCAR[*], and for our common goal of Glory to the Dominion, things should stay that way. IMHO ST6 fills a slightly different role anyway, so I don't see any issues here. Itani also has guilds filling similar roles (Itan, SKV).

[*]: Mecha seems to be having a fit and going nuts these days after the mess Mogul created, but at least he disassociated himself with SCAR before making himself Serco-hated and Itani-loved (!!)

Yes, my mistake, I should not have openly used the word "stolen" so liberally in my speech. We're all a family, all working towards a common goal.

I would just like to make a public statement once and for all as the Commander of ST6 one the perceived issue of us "stealing" SCAR members, as you are far from the first to say this. All of my personal are under orders not to pressure or recruit any SCAR personal unless the SCAR member asks first. We are at war my friend the last thing we need is to be turning on one another.

It may not hurt to try and find out who started the rumor, you never know could be an Itani thing to get us at one another.

And lastly as for the arrogance thing, you and me go way back when have I ever not been arrogant? And when did you become so?

As a final note I would like to say, the members I have that are ex-SCAR mostly left back when you had the Pirate/loser image and got sick uf people hating and shooting them for no reason other then their guild name, I think this may have changed not though I will admit ST6 has not been actively recruiting at this time as we are some thing of a closed guild. We feel less more highly trained people are better off then a large mob of people. So far it is what has worked for us.

You are all monsters. All alike.

Just like those Itanies who pretend to want peace and ignore that war is already on us.

In war is not every one a monster, and thus every monster a man?

So then must not one define that which is truly a monster and what truly is a man for him self.
Apr 09, 2006 mgl_mouser link
True monsters are those who have total disregard for human life and prefer to stay nice and tidy in their cocoon while the opressor is hacking the door down.

When I stumbled onto the incomplete NSI prototype plans in the Coalition Of Itan's IA backups a few months ago, I decided to explore it's potential uses and spent a great deal of my own money on trying to have it completed.

When I tried it on myself, it is then I realized how important it was to be more proactive in our defense of the Itani territories. And I needed a test subject to go on with phase two of the development.

I might have lost access to that hired-for lab and the NSI backup plans might not be worth scrap, but at least they made me see the blinding light.

Sercos are not human. Sercos threat humans. But humans will prevail if they act quickly.

The Serco monsters will fall. The Itani monsters will learn.
