Deneb Run #44

Apr 24, 2006 Screwball link
I will be away on business travel until next week and not able to run The Deneb Run #44 this weekend.

Erik/Miharu/Joyce: If you would like to run it, I'll reimburse you the full prize money plus a bonus when I return (tuesday-ish). Alternately, you could ask Broma-Ba Slick/Broma Trez to cough it up in advance, since EnB has pre-paid their part of the money.

Radio TGFT will continue to broadcast, but I won't be around to switch it to Live mode for special race music this week.

TGFT and EnB will again be hosting The Deneb Run this weekend.

*** Listen to racing music on Radio TGFT at http://www.live365.com/stations/dj_screwball ***

*** Valkyries are allowed again! ***

*** The TIME will be 5 PM EST Saturday (9pm GMT)

All citizens are welcome to race, there is no entrance fee, and 4 Million credits in prizes are available. Some of it could be yours!

Once again, the rules are:

1) Racers must race from Odia M14 through Deneb heading clockwise back to Odia M14.
2) Race starts in Odia M14 near the station.
3) Contestants must be within 100m of me before the start
4) No shooting before I start the race.
5) You die and you're out (so no /exploding)
6) All weapons and ships allowed, except those listed in #10.
7) First person to get back and dock at Odia M14 wins the first prize. (2 million credits)
8) Second person back gets 2nd place prize (1.2 million credits)
9) Third person back gets 3rd place prize (800k credits)
10) Money for killing other racers: Any pilot, racing or not, is eligible to earn money as follows:

Pre-condition #1: There must be at least 3 racers
Pre-condition #2: Less than 3 racers complete The Deneb Run
If the above pre-conditions are met, the undistributed prize money will be awarded to those who killed the racers as follows:
- Kills in the Odia M-14 sector are not eligible
- The most recent eligible kill earns the highest unawarded prize money (2 mil, 1.2 mil, 800k, or 0)
- The 2nd most recent eligible kill earns the 2nd highest unawarded prize money (1.2 mil, 800k, or 0)
- The 3rd most recent eligible kill earns the 3rd highest unawarded prize money (800k or 0)

I believe this is a good way of saying thanks to those who help spice things up for the racers, without encouraging station camping (which is too easy).

Please reply to this thread if you intend to race.

Either Blue Streak or Joyce Sanders will be running this race.

Just a quick clarification: While there will be music on Radio TGFT, I won't be available to switch it to live broadcast mode for special racing music this week.

The Race-Make-Fun Squad needs your support!

To make the race more fun and exciting you have to do just one thing: Kill them racers! Crush their cockpits, turn their ships into scrap, spill their blood onto the spacelanes!

Use ANY means nessessary!

To offset expenses I'll give you 500K for every racer that you prevented entering the m14 station in one piece. Even the pathetic excuses of human waste products who take part in the race can collect the money. Show that you're more than an ape in a speedboat!

The Racers:

Blue Streak: Itani pilot, member of SB, he is the winningest pilot in The Deneb Run, host of the Corporate Sectors Run AND Nation War events, sometimes announcer of The Deneb Run, and has done many race writeups for The Deneb Run.

Esson Lennenk: Union pilot, member of TGFT, he is also a very competitive veteran racer and has already won The Deneb Run once.

Mike-L: Serco pilot, council member of SCAR, this veteran racer has consistently exemplified the phrase "blaze of glory", though he has finally managed to finish a race.

Mick: Union pilot, another veteran racer with many strong finishes and a win under his belt.

fooz2916: Union pilot and veteran racer, known to arrive somewhat late to all events he wished to participate in.

Ghostieboy: Itani pilot, member of EnB, a newcomer that took 2nd Place in his first race.

Breazle: Union pilot, Commander of BHu, this is his first race.

Look... no hands: Union pilot, member of CLM, this, too, is his first race.

Lung jin: Itani pilot, member of TGFT, yet another first-time racer.

Won'ear: Itani pilot, another first comer to the Deneb Run.

The Writeup:

The signal was given and the racers took off, their engines screaming as they launched themselves across greyspace. Blue Streak, Esson Lennenk and fooz2916 soon broke from the main pack as Odia was left behind and Sedina B-8, with its usual complement of pirates, drew close.

As usual, the first racers crossed to Latos with little problem; it is the ones immediately after that have to watch their backs. True to form, the newer pilots were easy prey for the pirates, and lung jin and Ghostieboy fell to Jolly Roger before reaching Latos. Look... no hands and Won'ear would fare no better, reaching Latos only to die there under mr_spuck's gun. As expected, the main pirate blockade took out a significant number of racers minutes into the Run. The pirates picked on Breazle, who had to go repair twice in Ukari, but in the end he managed to elude them and continue the race.

The Battle of the Pings began as the Run entered the Serco Dominion, as Esson, fooz2916 and Blue Streak pulled apart from Mike-L, who was in no danger from Breazle, far behind. Esson and fooz began to consolidate their positions as they flew through storm-laden Itanispace, the pirates seemingly absent or totally ineffective here. Mike-L kept trying to catch up to the top three, while Breazle was taking his time, traveling through the scenic route, in no hurry at all.

The pirates struck again when the Run returned to greyspace, as Niki was kind of disappointed at his failure to kill Breazle. He made up for it by blasting first Esson and then fooz, taking out the top two racers at that moment. Blue Streak, however, managed to elude him. Not content with this, Niki then also took out Mike-L. Breazle was still too far behind, so the pirates relocated to Odia M-14 to try and stop the two remaining racers.

Through luck and skill Blue Streak evaded the Odia M-14 Welcoming Commitee to dock for first place. The pirates howled their fury and settled in to wait for Breazle. A battle ensued around the station as some racers came out to pay the pirates back, and in the resulting bruhaha Breazle arrived to dock with little problem, ending the Run. Ten racers, two winners; Deneb Running at its finest!

The Results:

Blue Streak - 32:07 - EC-107, No Weps
Breazle - 40:55 - Orion Hornet Convoy Guardian, 1x law Enforcement Neutron Blaster
Esson Lennenk - DNF - TPG Atlas X, 1x TPG Sparrow Blaster
fooz2916 - DNF - IDF Valkyrie Vigilant, 1x Orion XGX Phase Blaster
Ghostieboy - DNF - Warthog Mk2, No Weps
look ...no hands - DNF - Hornet Mk2, No Weps
lung jin - DNF - IDF Valkyrie Vigilant, 2x Neutron Blasters Mk3, Hive Fast Charge Battery
Mick - DNF - IDF Valkyrie Vigilant, No Weps
Mike-L - DNF - Orion Hornet Convoy Guardian, No Weps
Won'ear - DNF - Orion Hornet Convoy Guardian, 1x Phase Blaster Mk2

Interesting Observations:

1) Seven pilots killed by 3 pirates, Niki bagging three, mr_spuck and Jolly Roger two each.

2) There was a problem with VO dropping lines and Mick missed the start of the race, so he quit.

(Thanks to Joyce for getting the logs ^^;)
