Deneb Run #48

May 27, 2006 Screwball link
Due to the fact that my mother-in-law and sister-in-law are visiting for the weekend, I will not be available to run The Deneb Run today. If Erik C., Joyce Sanders or Miharu wants to run it, I'll cover the prize money plus the standard bonus. Otherwise, look for #48 next week.

The Racers:

Mick: UIT, he's a veteran racer with many top 3 finishes and a win in The Deneb Run. He's also won the Corporate Sectors Run several times, and holds the current record time in that race.

Joyce Sanders: UIT, Commander of SB, she is a very competitive veteran racer and has earned a win and many top 3 finishes in The Deneb Run.

Breazle: UIT, member of BHu, this is his third race and he already has a 2nd place finish.

Stranger: Itani, member of Itan, he is a returning racer from a few months hiatus.

MiexonBionic: UIT, member of EnB, he is a competetive racer in both Runs and is among the top ten in the standings.

toshiro: Serco, member of SoR, this is his third race.

woodyst_trader: UIT, he is a returning racer.

The Race:

In Screwball's abscence, I took up the comm and ran the race. After one start signal that not a racer took off with, I fired again a minute later and the race started. Mick was taking an early lead to the wormhole, with MiexonBionic right behind. Crossing into Sedina, Mick still had the lead but the order behind was too close to discern anything. After crossing the treacherous B-8 and Latos, the racers began to string out. Mick was first into Ukari, followed by MiexonBionic and then Joyce Sanders. woodyst_trader, toshiro and Stranger all popped out a minute within each other.

Breazle took potshots at MiexonBionic, denting his armor as he warped. The racer split up through the three systems but reconverged in Dantia B-5. Mick was first there as Joyce Sanders hits an unmarked roid field, arriving second to B-5. MiexonBionic was next, toshiro almost right beside him. But no one could expect that a Serco Teradon would make the tiebreaker between them. MiexonBionic was eliminated before he could jump to Sol II, the only casualty of the race. Meanwhile, Stranger was pulling in behind toshiro, who now had third. Mick was a full jump ahead of Joyce Sanders and extending it more. woodyst_trader was ahead of Breazle, who was in last place at this point.

The race continued. Mick crossed into blue space, gaining ever more ground and putting almost three systems between he and Joyce Sanders by the end of the race. Joyce Sanders was being gained on by Stranger and toshiro, who were battling it out for third. In fact, Stranger had pulled ahead around Setalli Shinas. But whenever it looked like Joyce might lose 2nd or that Stranger might pull ahead with third, toshiro and Stranger would hit a storm. Joyce Sanders kept a wary lead over them throughout the race, keeping a one jump lead as she docked. toshiro pulled into dock less than ten seconds before Stranger did. woodyst_trader would fall behind Breazle as they both hit the storm in Odia. Breazle pulled ahead and woodyst_trader docked last to complete the Run.

The Results:

Mick - 28:38 - IDF Valkyrie Vigilant, No Weps, FC Batt
Joyce Sanders - 33:05 - Orion Hornet Convoy Guardian, No Weps, FC Batt
toshiro - 33:46 - Hornet Mk2, No Weps, FC Batt
Stranger - 33:55 - Warthog Mk2, No Weps, FC Batt
Breazle - 37:07 - Orion Hornet Convoy Guardian, 1x Law Enforcement Neutron Blaster, FC Batt
woodyst_trader - 37:19 - Centurion Mk3, No Weps, FC Batt
MiexonBionic - DNF - IDF Valkyrie Vigilant, No Weps, Hive FC Batt

Interesting Obeservations:

1) The pirates made no kills this time, as many of the recent races.

2) Mick is on a roll, winning the last two Deneb Run and countless Corp Runs.

3) Breazle supposedly killed a Hive Queen and did 5 prospecting missions while racing.
