Deadly Shadows

"What do they need this time?" FB wondered out loud as he started up his ship only to be bombarded with messages. "Well, looks like I need to go to SkyCommand... This time they seem serious..."

----------------------------------------------------------------

SkyCommand looked as new as it always had, still clearly the most maintained Serco station in the galaxy. FB smiled slightly as he docked with the station, he would always remember this place as home, not even Viper HQ would be able to replace it. Almost all of his training had taken place here, and this was the HQ for Eagle squadron, which was rumored to be reforming as a stealth bomber wing.

"Welcome sir! I have orders to guide you to the conference room," a cadet declared as he snapped to attention at the sight of FB.

"That's fine, I know the way, but I guess I'll let you guide me so that your commanding officers won't get mad at you," FB said happily noticing that he still had some respect from the Serco millitary.

The winding halls were still a neusance, but they were meant to be that way to thwart future attacks on the station. If the Akanese tried to take back POW's again, they'd have to fight for it this time.

"Welcome General Estor, Cadet, you're dismissed," the general standing on the far side of the table said.

"Wow, I'm now a general? I thought it was very clear that I was no longer part of the Serco military?" FB asked.

"Upon landing at this station you recieved the rank of general by my orders, mostley because the information I'm about to share with you is top secret and only to be viewed by generals and the triumvirate," the man explained.

"Alright, what is it?" FB inquired as he took a seat by the briefing screen.

"As you know, by fault of Cmdr. Oshala, we've been experimenting with stealth cloaking technologies, oh, and by the way, I am General Zeron," Zeron answered, "and, well, the problem is that one is missing."

"Hmm, not to hard to lose something like that..." FB mumbled trying to think of who would steal such a ship since they had minimal armaments for self defense.

"The reason you were called here was because Oshala simultaneously disapeared with the ship, and you were one of his favorite students at the academy here. The triumvirate wants the ship back, alongside Oshala, in one piece or not. Good luck, you are dismissed general, oh, and before I forget, our mechanic is applying a detector that will let you know the general direction of the ship if you encounter it." Zeron said before standing, saluting, and leaving the room.

FB took his time to get back to the hangar, he was already overworked trying to keep up with his daily patrols and high self-standards.

"It will be ok, I'll survive," FB said as he crawled into his ship and launched back toward grey space.

The warning alarms went off, no matter what he did FB couldn't get them to stop. From the corner of his eye he could see the ship just before it disapeared again. He then found himself in a dark ally back on Sol II, a place he had spent most of his free time as a child. But there was no longer any protection from the shadows, he had often hid there to get away from the monstrosities at the farm which he lived. Creatures bred for the simple use of labor with no choice, others made defenseless to be easily killed and eaten. However, this time the shadows almost seemed to be threatening him, almost as if they meant to destroy him.

FB sat up and glanced around the room still breathing heavily, it had been the same nightmare for a week now. He knew it was regular for a human to dream the same dream over and over when they were unable to think of anything else, yet this troubled him.

"I really need to see someone about this..." FB thought as he began to get ready for another long day of kill or be killed in the large galaxy.

The Itani were as accepting as they had always been while he had flown under his UIT callsign, but his instincts told him to keep a low profile. The Akanese had scouts throughout Itani space even though the Itani government did not tolerate the terrorists attempts to escalate the war.

The planet Eo was the galaxies spiritual capital, with thousands of monastaries run by monks. Sightseeing could wait, it was time to visit an old friend.

"Oh, hello, it's been a while," the strange, short man said without even looking at the visitor as FB entered the central meditation chamber.

"Yes, almost too long," FB replied smiling before taking a seat across from the old man.

"I sense that you're troubled, what is it that's bothering you?" the man inquired, the Itani's abillity to sense feelings through their mind focus had always amazed FB. It was a mysterious power that he couldn't even begin to understand.

"Well, this may sound silly, but it was a dream, it's been recurring for almost a week now. It's the same everytime, first I'd be fighting an enemy that disapears, and then reappears somewhere else. The second part is the part that really wories me, it's a location that used to bring comfort as a child but in the dream it is threatening, almost as if it were about to strike me," FB explained.

"Hmm, the strange enemy seems like something more recent for you, but the childhood location is clearly representative of a change in you that you're uncomfortable with," the man said thoughtfully.

"Thanks, I was worried it would be something worse. A lot has happened in the last couple weeks, and I wasn't sure if this had anything to do with it," FB said before bowing and turning to leave.

"Wait, one more thing, yesterday during my meditations I heard the galaxy scream as if the very fabric it was made of had been torn, and the Serco have long been rumored to be testing technology that could weave in and out of space and time," the man said with a grave tone to his voice.

"Keep this between us, but the rumors are very true, but you just explained how the technology works, I had always known those ships had the abillity to disapear, but I've never known how," FB said and quickly left the room. Time was running out, if a careless pilot who didn't know what they were doing got a hold of the technology things could get really wierd really fast.
