Pirate Hunt (In a good way)

Aug 04, 2006 1st Down link
2nd Up took out his resume, and proudly nailed it to the most viewed roid in Sedina. It had been recomended that he publicize himself this way instead of paying normal costs by a kind-hearted chap, Velos. "Everyone checks this roid. Its quite odd that there aren't any announcements on it right now," he had said.

2U checked the paper one more time before getting back in his ship and flying off looking for unsuspecting traders and miners.

Borb's lumbering moth flew past the roid in question at a slow 160ms. Borb swore at the ship for the 8th time since he had jumped into the sector. Trying to take his mind of the slow speed of the ship he was flying Borb slowly started counting the roids as they slowly came past his cockpit window.

"67.
68.
6 ****** **** 9.
7... Wait what's this...."

He suddenly spotted what looked like a resume posted on a roid in the middle of no where Sedina. Looking for annoying thing to take his mind of the boredom of trading he brought it into the cargo bay of his ship before passing the roid at his slow pace.

Running down to the cargo hold with curiosity he read the resume laughing the whole way. What a guy this 2nd Up. Borb thought this kid would make a great pirate, he then felt suddenly guilty for taking the resume off it's place on the wall.

Grinning he sent the resume to every guild he could think of under an alias. Who knows maybe he'll be able to have some fun on his next trade mission.

As I, Woodstock was cruising serenely thru Dau on a personal trade run hauling a Moth load of Pharmacueticals to Ukari for prepositioning, my communication Fax Machine started buzzing and spitting out a message:

I ripped the sheet from the feeder and read it again, Oh No another Pirate alert. sighing "Oh Well" I tack it on the BOL wall in the back of the Bridge of the YellowBird, and dial up EnB guild trouble Desk Fax machine and resend the buffer copy of the alert to the guild headquarters to alert them of a new hazard in space. I also changed course to TPG Headquarters, in order to stop in on Woodstocks Museum of Ships to check in with my assistant curator and to advise him to aware of strange people hanging around the ship displays and gave him orders to beef up security. As I was leaving, I stopped and called my assistant to remind him to expect a load of Serco Combat Simulators for the new flight simulator display in the museum. As I did my preflight checks, I let my mind drift back to when I first launched out of this launch bay and how much has changed. Sighing, I requested permission to launch and was wish a good flight by the launch crew. I set my course to Ukari and cruised out to the jump point. Just as I was reaching the Jump point and initialized jump word came in that a Constellation was stuck on a station. I checked the nav route and realized it wasnt near my path and relaxed and listened to the long range chatter of pilots around the galaxy as I serenely traveled to Ukari and home.

I was sitting in my villa looking out over my private island on a small, discrete, backwater planet out of the way of people who might recognise me.

Suddenly a message came through the (somewhat illegal) military grade, encrypted, holographic coms unit. I punched it up, recognising the call sign of a roguish character I once worked alongside.

I had a good laugh at the resume. A fleeting thought of returning to my old habits and hunting grounds passed through my head. Then I considered my bank balance, considered the lovely weather and considered the prospect of a nice fish dinner grilled on my outdoor bbq. I grabbed my fishing rods and wandered down to my private jetty.

The resume was autodeleted after 5 mins inactivity.

Edit: Interesting, I wonder when I logged in as Martin2.
