Dunno what you're smokin, Humpy, but those ARE engines. They're CLEARLY isolated from the fuselage of the ship at various points of the model. If you're basing your facts on the purchase menu, that's simply a feature that hasn't been implemented yet (not sure if it'll ever be though). Just because we buy only one engine and one battery for every ship doesn't mean every ship runs off of one engine. It's either something that hasn't been implemented in the game, or it's there to simplify purchases.

As for your discussion in regards to exhaust pipes and nozzles, I think you need to rethink what you've just posted. The number of INTAKES is the visible feature that doesn't determine the number of engines available. Take a look at the Hornet. It has two intakes but only one engine. I also believe a modern jet fighter known as the "Mirage" has a similar design where there are two intakes but one engine.

But anyway, the number of exhaust nozzles DOES in most cases determine the number of engines. A 747 airliner has four engines, and you can clearly see them as separate units across the wings. Each one has their own exhaust nozzle. A muffler in a car isn't the same thing as the nozzles on a jet fighter or space shuttle. The exhaust on a jet or rocket engine provides propulsion, whereas the muffler on a car simply provides a means of getting the end products of a combustion engine OUT of the car. It would be highly inefficient and illogical to have multiple exhaust nozzles on a single engine, so even if it were true it would be extremely dumb for anyone to design such a ship.

AArolte not if you were trying to get more out of a thrust vector system I would think.
Jul 05, 2003 Arolte link
Thrust vector system? Wouldn't that mean that the Marauder should be more agile then? Either way you should see that the Marauder by design should be a highly agile ship. That's the point I'm getting at here.

Make that 23 caps now...... And I've missed every one of them!
Jul 05, 2003 Celkan link
um no. Thrust vector by design doesn't utilize _round_ exhaust ports... It uses square or rectangular ones... (read: Valk/Hornet)

Red got caps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Victory party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =P

Yeah, I capped one and helped on another. :-D

Reds, go cap. Show gold how low they can be brought! But don't do anything to us or I'll login sometime and kill ya. Maybe I'll even stop defending your flag daily!

not 3mil score total yet, 2.9mil all the characters total.
Jul 06, 2003 The Kid link
yeah too bad the 5 caps yesterday by reds were on blue.
Until the defense bots are fixed... 1mil per cap is not good...
Jul 06, 2003 Eldrad link
Ya 1m per cap is bad... I've got way more cash than I know what to do with.

Blue Player=4206
Gold Player=2884

Its much easyer to cap the Flag with many n00bs then with 4 or 5 Golds.
Whatever....Gold is still leading the scorelist. *g*

Gold doesn't have that many newbies, i help newbies whenever i can, gold has blaster, who has (i think) over 3000000 points of score, mostly from botting.
Jul 06, 2003 roguelazer link
WOW! I just looked at the nation rankings page about 30 mins ago, and since then gold's money went up by more than 40000000c!!! Darn, we were ahead of them too!
Jul 07, 2003 sheepdog link
well, after crawling out of another hole. It seems that gold still has the highest score... so :p.

P.S. (Ill come back after I get the new computer that my dad promised me 2 years ago! The G5 is here now dad! Pay up Biznatch!)

Blue, how did you do it?
Jul 07, 2003 tracid link
yesterday : 3 active blue online... a float of 9 gold that has failed in caping reds came to cap blue..

45 mins of battle in S1 to get the flag outta of here 9 golds vs 2 blue....

15 mins to get flag outta of s4 3 vs 9

for the gold generalisation i was a bit ungry... my apologize to gold people that are kind... for sure there is .... ZEAL , Gbence , busmaster , etc...

but still some r really crap and r the first that complain of what they are doing... =/
Jul 07, 2003 The Kid link
yeah but it was fun. We also let s4 bots loose too lol.
It's way harder to cap even with 1 person resisting now.

Regarding engines, intakes, exhaust, etc: Would it be reasonable to point out that...

1) There is nothing to intake in a vacuum anyway.
2) That are ships don't appear to use a reaction drive, so it it's pointless to talk about exhaust. The ships generally speaking are quite happy moving in any direction without visible exhaust ports, nor do they have any sort of fuel they are accelerating away from them. Therefore, those glowing things in the back of ships probably aren't rockets, jets, or any sort of technology we understand. For all we know they are heat emmiters designed to keep ships from melting down by radiating away as light what would is generally radiated as heat energy in an atmosphere. They may not have anything to do with moving the ship under normal circumstances (ei non-turbo).
3) The games physics for reasons often discussed do not exactly mimic the real world. For instance, they appear to achieve 'relativistic speeds' at only 60 m/s or so which implies wierd things about the speed of light such as that it might only be 200 m/s or so (an idea bourne out by the speed of energy weapons in the game).
4) Even more bearing out the notion that those glowing things in the back of the ships aren't thrusters in any sense our current technology understands is the fact that a heavy engine for a single emmitter gizmo is interchangable with a heavy engine for a ship with 2 or more glowing emmitter gizmos.
5) Just because the glow increases when the ship is turboing is evidence that glowing gizmos are thruster thingy's (at least some of the time), but not proof of it. For instance, they could still be heat radiators and the increased energy consumption of turbo could necessitate higher radiation emitting. The thrust generated by the photons coming out the back might only be (and indeed almost certainly is giving the acceleration rate) a tiny portion of the thrust produced by 'turbo'.

And most importantly:

6) The real reason that the ships models look like they do has everything to do with art and 21st century viewers expectations of what a fast craft looks like, and nothing to do with science and technology. In space, fast craft are not required to look sleek in anyway, and manueverable craft are not required to look aerodynamic. Quite the contrary, a fast craft in a vacuum _probably_ appears lumbering and inelegant to eyes informed with the expectations of 21st century viewers of cars, fish, torpedos, rockets, birds, boats, and aircraft. Fast and manueverable craft in vacuum might well look like barrels, sea urchins, bricks, factories, balls, bicycle hubs, wheels, gyros, and so forth. But an artist is probably ill advised to try to produce alot of realistic designs given that what he really has to do is create marketable designs that inspires 'ewwws', 'ahhhs', and 'k3wls' from teen and pre-teens that like cars, airplanes, and conventionally designed fantasy space fighters.

hmm... I just found out that 2 ppl cap is possible. Dodged all 8 s4 bots without turbo for good 10km.
