how about for flag caps.. 500k distiduted to the whole team, so if 3 people are on the itani nation and they cap, they each get 500k/3

so if 10 people are on, they each get 50k.

cool, that works. - if the capper is the only one getting a reward, and he chooses not to split it with his helpers.. then he's not going to get helpers in the future. Also if the capper is the only one getting rewarded, people just sitting idle aren't getting an advantage from it.

As long as the bots are going to remain closer to the flag (in the home sectors) and have a limited distance in 4/6/12 they aren't going to be as easy to avoid. (maybe set them up on a triangular patrol between the 3 wormholes and have them turn back from a chase if they are more than 4k from the nearest point on their patrol route?[can that be done?])

Now.. can we get the flag defense turrets back? just the 2 that sat on either side of the flag. taking those out or dodging the fire from them was the best part of capping back before the defbots :)


Urza: i don't think i like that idea so much.. that means that if itani is capping to screw them all we have to do is get everyone to log an itani character on and the cap becomes worthless. it also penalizes Itani unnecesarily since they almost always have more players on, thier caps wouldn't be worth as much to the people doing the work.

Urza: no. You'd get about 4 credits under that system with the current Itani population.

We can get the turrets back, but not tonight or this weekend. Maybe on Monday. The code is still sitting around, but it needs to be updated.

@Urza, the problem is people are getting money for caps they had no part in. Even if you automatically distributed the money to everyone, people would still jump on your nation to drive down the reward amount.

@Spellcast: exactly! People will have their reputation on the line, so they will be accountable to distribute the money to those involved with the cap.

I've spoken about it in the past as many of you.
My suggestions before were:
1. Give money only to people who have been in the sector when flag was picked up.
2. Give all prize money (500k) to person who capped the flag and let him distribute the money accordingly.

One of these will do just fine to abolish idle money vaults.

i think we are leaning towards #2 randomize. :)

# 1 would be unfair because a part of any good cap leaves some ships to cover the outer sector and occasionally you pick up assitants after the flag has allready made it into the non nation sectors.

We're hoping to release a new version tonight (manual and some bugfixes), at which point I'm considering dropping the CTF bonus from 150k to 15k, and resetting all users with more than 400k in personal finances.. back to 400k (those with less will be unaffected). I'm aware that people could'ave gained more than that from trading, I just want to try and negate the artificial changes in economic standing from CTF exploitation. Comments?

Note: at some point when the AI code is less exploitable, the NPCDEFs will have their capabilities reduced and the bonus for CTF will increase once again.

I know I don't need permission :). But I like the feedback. I don't want to do a full reset again, on behalf of new people who'ave started recently. Those of you who are vets and have been through this a few times.. that's fine. But for someone new who's struggled to attain something in the sometimes-frustrating environment of our game, I'd rather not nuke their achievements when another solution is possible.

I dont find this a good idea.

Have some of you even tried to cap when there ARE defenders on. Then 150k is nothing with the money that you need to spend on ships and all.

If you do however wanna change ctf, then please change the bots so they are less dumb, normal weapons, but that you are able to take them out and that they wont respawn that fast. I can take them out, no real prob, but they respawn so fast that it isnt worth to take them out.

The only reason why we succeeded in our caps is because:

1) people didnt have a lot of money to defend
2) people that did defend were outnumbered greatly so no incencitive
3) because we used/ exploited the dumbness of the bots.

So in stead of altering somethign fun to somethign unrewarding, please dont make such drastic changes :(.

from 150k to 15k is a big leap, just half it, make it impossible for us to space the bots. But make it possible for us to kill them and let them be taken out for 5 minutes for instance. This means that if you can kill them, they wont return for 5 minutes or 2 minutes, whatever makes is interesting and not to uber. this will mean that you need an entire wing of people in the homesector and not just 1 person exploiting some flaws in the game/test.

So please, please, please dont take it out :(.

PS: if really needed just get the flag out of the homesector and in stead of us having to get it out of the homesectors, let us get it out of a anew sector containing those bots that I primarilly mentioned "1 wing (30 - 350 value bots)" and 3 flags to our homesector. So in stead of capture the flag, reverse capture the flag.

It wouldnt interfere with the fun of capping. Protecting our newbies. Or anytgi like this.

I think this could be a nice idea. I like the teamwork that ctf induces to much to just let it go :(. Besides, it can always be incorperated as a missionstring later on. You can for instance assign gold to get the red flag from there, and assign blue to steal it, at the meantime assigning red to get the other 2 colored flags :D.
