The credits thing can actually work quite well. Take a look at Project Entropia (http://www.project-entropia.com) to see what I mean. However, PE lets you convert creds back to cash, which would be a bad idea...

I think the pay to influence the development is a great idea - thats sortof what winex does - registetered users vote on which game developers will make winex compatible with next

I just came up with a plan. The Vendetta updater alone is a marvelous piece of software. It is so handy to be able to automatically update vendetta like that. I wish Stuffit and poisoned, programs which update frequently had something like that. Maybe Guild should sell the code for the updater?

Ummm... Most of those programs already have a built-in updater. I don't think they're that hard to program...

Some more extra's ideas for people who pay :

Desktop themes.
Access to concept art.
Gold/silver/bronze ships based on how much you donate.

Donaters get super-flashy highly reflecting cool silver ships..

<Poor newb> AAAH!!! my eyes!! I can't see, I`m blinded by the light!!

Uhm...why not sell/license the source, ala Garage Games and their bloody Torque engine? They have 36,000 subscribers at $100 a pop..took them about two years and money from epic and tribes to get there of course.

speaking of GG have you guys put a proposal to them to publish? they are supposed to be all about indie devs..and you guys are about the swankiest indie devs this side of the asteroid field.

I don't play much Vendetta these days, deving my own game engine/app takes up too much time (I sure killed a few months last year though)...
So I'm not sure exactly what I'd pay for...

Babylon 5 style fleet combat, ie, control over all the bots in a sector..oh yeah, that I'd pay for..even if it was a once a day thing..like control all the bots until they are smashed to bits then I'm reduced to lowly pilot again. Control over a station and its defense forces would be cool too. A nice change of pace from the usual stuff.

Another cool thing to play to pay for would be building of a persistant battlestation, of the Death Star variety. Pay for a sector of space to bring your special widgets to...every so many widgets would add a defense turret, every other so many widgets would build the shielding, every so many more widgets would make it get bigger, until it was fully operational...then everyone could come try to blow it up, or use it as a station if they were not on your shiz list.

Also I'd pay to have a heavily defended capital ship, with like 10 or so mean AI in it that I could sic on people. they could either blow up my evil forces, or be conquered and pay like 10% of their current credits or something.
Also they could attack en masse and screw my ship up good, or lure me into a trap of their evil battlestation.

Another bonus of paying should be AI escorts. AI that doesn't attack you but follows you from sector to sector or lays in wait for your enemy to chase you into the asteroids, and then get ambushed. Say one escort for every $10 a month.
10 escorts for $100 a month :) for you junkies out there.

Well those are some ideas. I really hope you guys can find a publisher, this game is too good to go away. You guys should at least get decent game dev jobs...Lucas arts could user your skills for sure.

eeerr.. what? 100$ a month? That is faaaaar too much.
Jan 08, 2004 Sheean link
Having AI escort would be waaaay to much of an in-game advantage.

Well, I've already said this idea, but here it's again... (couse you began about selling the engine)

Make a simple (the devs can just use most of the current graphics and stuff), singleplayer/multiplayer (but no central server) fps game (dm, team dm, ctf, deathball, racing, stuff like that) using the vendetta engine and sell it for $10-$30 if you pay you can download the game and play it... (so no publishers needed) there should also be a demo wich can be downloaded for free so people think: 'ah, what a nice game' and buy it, and buy a couple of copies for their friends ;)

100$ a license. It's a 3d game engine.

Cheers,

Allan.

I don't think this is where the devs want to go - could you imagine if they did that? I bet 80% of the current players leave, and not very many more come calling. Plus to do anything like that, you'd have to have a finished product, as Incarnate said in another thread. this is not finished.
