how about this, you could make it so you pay for things, like buy credits, or like one special ship thats really good and you can only purchase it by paying real life cash for?

how does that sound??

Sorry, I should really read things through before saying anything!

"rather than having an in-game benefit"

Ignore everything I said if you read it! And if you didn't read it then nothing was said!

I think that it would be worth paying for, if it was reasonable. However, I would probably have problems convincing my PARENTS that it would be worth it, like many others have said.

Which is too bad; I don't want to see Guild die, either... they've put too much into this IMHO for it to have been for naught.

Oooh, cool... I'd pay... Another incentive could be a completely separate, "paid-only" forum, in which we're allowed to use things like HTML tags... :D

Paid only forum, very good, change in displaying of name. Very good.

"oh and ability to have multiple characters should only be available to paying members :)"

Ah, no. Remember you want people to actually be attracted to the game, and finding out when you start playing that you can only play 1 character, 1 race, and have to delete everything and start all over just to check out what its like to be a red.. or a gold.. or a blue, that you didnt pick the first time, is not particularly appealing to any new player.

lol RL, i had a similar bad translation, i think the general gist of it is that u dont NEED a credit card 2 use PAYPAL, u can set up a PAYPAL account and transfer funds from ur bank 2 that, and then send the payment from there, o btw, i think dinger = danger, heh

On the general subject of this thread, i will re-iterate what i and many others said in the "save the whales" thread, VENDETTA CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO DIE, whatever it is we need to do, lets get on and do it sooner rather than later, we can all resume our enjoyment of the game then, if paying is gonna give me special powers/ships etc. great, if not, i will still pay.

ps. good 2 c UncleDave again (even if its not ingame)

pps. tell me how when and how much asap so i can actually give some money

ppps. pls dont let vendetta die coz i dont wanna return 2 the real world!!!!

Translation:
Moin Lin.
Had the same problem. I dislike those things too, therefore i have none. But paying with paypal is possible without a creditcard. Get an paypal account, transfer money from your bank, and after the creditnote you can transfer it, even in Dollar (note we have euro here)
I will try this now. Then im able to pay effective from January.
I hope that helps them.

Freely (and bad) translated (*hide*).

Back to the topic:
Anyway i dislike paying using paypal. I wish there whould be a better way. But the fee for transfering money in the usa is ~10 Euro. Which would double the costs (for me). Paypal is the best alternative.

So yes i will pay. But before i want to know the amount of money i need to pay. And of course the date for the first payment.

You should also think about terms and conditions. Maybe some guy pays, is swearing -> got banned and wants his money back. Those conditions must be defined.

I'd pay as much as $5 a month if gave me a better gameplay experience than a free account. I do like the idea of helping shape the game. It's going to be hard for you dev's to sort the tons of off-the-wall suggestions you're going to get, but I think it is feasable.

There should definately be a way to distinguish a paying player in-game. I'd like a bigger variety of skins to customize my ships with, if not a uploadable badge or custom skin. I don't think it would be unfair to give extra sectors to the paying players. Let the current sectors be the "demo" sectors and expand only for the paying players. Us early adopters should also benefit when this thing goes gold. Maybe our monthly fees would be reduced and our names would be special and maybe on some in-game plaque or something. That would be fun.

My dad said he'd be willing to donate some money, and depending on the monthly fee I might be able to swipe a monthly payment deal out of him too.

I think I can do $10/month....

ooh, could paying memebers get a +1mil "donation" into their accounts? :p
Dec 29, 2003 Arolte link
Maybe I totally missed it, but what kinds of special privelages will be given to people who pay versus people who don't pay? Access to the suggestions forum? Is that it? Maybe allow ranking to be visible for only those who pay. The stats will be there for everyone, but people who don't pay won't have access to 'em and neither will their stats be posted. Other than that I'd hate to be limited to a number of sectors while everyone else could go to s100 just because they paid. I mean I'm broke. I donated but I can't afford a monthly fee at the moment.

=(

Put it this way:

In-Game:
The core system, minus nation flag sectors (e.g. 4-13) is available to everyone, and new players spawn in secondary home sectors (4, 12 or 6). You can have one character in one nation.

PremiumGoldSuperExpressPassPort Plus members have access to up to three players per account, the extra systems, with their benefits (racing, flag captures and associated benefits thereof, black market, exploration, shortcuts, etc.) In fact, this might be a good model for the final product. As the universe grows, and nations get more owned sectors (for example, s22 is an Itani spyship base off S14, or the like), the incentive to pay up will grow.

Out-Of-Game:
Everyone gets account info management, active player lists, nation ranking and access to a free forum and bug-report form.

PremiumGoldSuperExpressPassPort Plus members get extra message boards, nation boards, player ranking ladders, priority access to patch and game download queues and access to Vendetta ICE features, should they ever be integrated into the main site. They can also post one Suggestion per pay-period.

Suggestions:
Suggestions are carefully monitored, and troll-posts would be deleted, but still count as your post for the pay-period. Players could vote on a suggestion, and the submissions would be ranked on how many votes they got.

whohooo i just came home from work, yes WORK and the forst thing i did was long on here to see whats happening.
I like Incarnates ideas and i will gladly pay to ... whatever you want to call the account thingy, whatever the benefits.

I'd just like to say that im gald that this 'game' has not gone the way of Parsec (www.parsec.org) which seems to have become dead in the water since it went open-source. The main thing i think the project (Vendetta) needs is more public awareness, im in the UK and i only found out about it through a mention on another forum.
Im gonna start another tread before this gets way off beam.........

WTF? You think they'l need 15,000 dollars a month to run this game? Think for just a second. Incarnate has been funding this. So either he forked over 180,000 dollars (2 yrs. x 15,000/month) or he has connections. Simply put, it wouldn't cost more than 500-1000 dollars anyway!

I like the idea Incarnate.
Dec 29, 2003 roguelazer link
It's probably about $500 a month for their internet pipe (yes, both of them. They have connections, so I'm assuming that they can pull that off). Probably another $500 for the office space. Then salaries on top of that... Well, it's probably not less than $5000 a month, assuming that all 4 of them get paid $250 a week (which is not much).
Dec 29, 2003 Eldrad link
I like the idea of added ability for input instead of in game advantages. I'll definately pay even if there are no benifits other than a better chance that GS will be able to work longer on the game.
Dec 29, 2003 dragos link
RL is right, 250$ a week is less then what i get paid as a low wage repair tech. a T1 is something like 1000-1500$ a month if i remember correctly. Minimal office space is prolly about 600-1000$ depending...

oh well, id definately be willing to donate for a bit of added suggestions, despite i rarely have them(thank you for adding group command... finally ;)

$250 a week is practically minimum wage.

I wonder if Guild could farm out to India for coding :P
Dec 29, 2003 randomize link
guild is not paying connection costs at the moment AFAIK.
outsourcing development to india/china/russia was one of my original suggestions.
