Hey, I am a "blue" character named Argitoth in the Vendetta game. I recently deleted the game from my computer after I died twice from having the best engine, the best ship, the best weapon, the best everything I wanted...

well FIRST OF ALL... I really have no idea if I am looking at every engine availible in the game. Like, I go to a station in, say, sector 4. I see not that many types of engines or batteries.

Now, are those all the availible engines and batteries in the whole game? I go to different stations and all of them have the exact same weapons, same enginges, same batteries, same buyable ships... I've only been up to like sector 13.

I have NO clue if frigates even exist in the "Vendetta Test" because I've never seen one yet people talk about it all the time.

Can you even trade items with different players? Can you mine an asteroid? Can you do anything besides kill NPCs?

OMG, I am just so comfused. I haven't seen much team-play of capturing flags... I dunno WHAT is going on around me. I'd like to get into some team-play but I dunno if that even exists.

ok... i need help it seems.

Yes you do....:)
the frigate is in s16, a hidden sector (there are 18 sectors, 14-18 are hidden..you dont see the worm hole)....

you have to learn how to fight, not with the best ship alone, but with cheaper ships for practice...

atm all the stations sell the same equipment, with the execption of s18 where you can get all types of ships...

trading in the world of vendetta is done by buying goodies in one station and selling it in another....

when you come to this game you have to keep in mind that this is a TEST! you cant expect it to be as good as a game you can buy, or you have to pay for (though it will be one of the best i belive)...we are here to test the game and say what is lacking (suggestion forum) and find bugs in the program.

it seems you have some ideas for the game, but all in good time...and you should know as well, this is not the final version of vendetta....sigificant changes are comming:) (if you have time, ask about the missions while plaing:) )

A better name for what we have is a "tech beta," as said by incarnate in his own post. We can only test the functions of what we have implemented so far, which is not much beyond a basic demand-based economy and combat.

There are many sectors, numbered 1-18, 40-46. 1-13 are "unhidden" (you can see the wormholes on the radar), and 14-18,40-46 are "hidden" (wormholes are invisible gray dots.

Do not buy a ship you cannot afford to replace.
Do not venture outside your home sectors (in this case 1/4) without acknowledging the risk of death.
Ask someone to teach you how to fight. This mainly involves getting a lot of money and then attacking a really good player. It also helps to have the same ship as they do. Best to confine yourself to trading your first million.
Realize that with the exception of persistent inventory, the game _IS_ "Quake in Space" at the moment. However, these are growing pains, bear with the "tech demo."

I realise you can "trade" to make money, but can you simply give equipment to another player?

I also understand this is just a test, but I'd like to know what the real game has to offer. The test could chase some people away from the game.

There needs to be a description of the Vendetta Test and what it currently has, and then there needs to be the goals of the real game. That way, people will clearly know what they are getting for free and what is going to be the final product. I couldn't find clear answers here.

One last note, if I join a clan, will there be raiding parties and such? I'd like to get into some team-play. Also, everytime I ever played a space game, my favorite weapon was guided missles. I love them, and not because I'm too lazy to dogfight, I just preferr slow-heavy ships with heavy firepower. :) So be sure to make some comments on missles and stuff if you can.

... I will be reinstalling the game and giving the test another shot. I hope to buy the final product.

what you are asking for is more of a real game.

you will have to talk with the devs to know where this game is going in the end of the road....and i'm not fully sure they know every detail there will be in the final version due to our suggestions...

Bad luck today, guided weapons in Vendetta kind of... suck. Most people are using flares (rockets that aren't guided) nowadays. They currently give the most damage with the least effort.

There are 2 'good' heavies (well.. sorta): the prometheus and the ragnarok; the first is a serco special and you (being blue) can only buy it in s18, you also have the ragnarok; wich you can buy everywhere. The rag is nice.. buuuuuut, it is slooooooooow. But if you like using homers, firework, and stuff exploding; and you also have lots of money to spare; throw a bunch of homers in it and go hunt bots (they're dumb, they'll walk right into the homers.)

My quick word of advise: learn how to flee (ask anyone to learn you how to do a 'barrel' roll, and avoid stuff, etc), fighting is only for extremly skilled and fools :P

Argitoth, thanks for keeping an open mind about this, but I think you have the wrong outlook. As a user of the "tech demo," you should not be as much concerned about what you "get" as much as you "give." You will (or might) initially play it for pure entertainment as you learn the game, but will quickly realize its limitations. The most comprehensive discussion of the future game is found here: <http://www.guildsoftware.com/vendetta.html>.

The only goal of the tech demo is to test features (not specific numbers). Homing missiles may suck against unguided rockets, but that is something easily remedied in the final game. Right now the devs are adding features, not tweaking constants. 99% of the threads in the suggestions forum are applicable to the beta test of a game nearing Final Candidacy. Don't read them and assume something "should" or "should not" be changed.

a good way to learn to fight is fight with a friend or cousin who is extremly better than you and keep fighting them, but don't do this if you don't want to lose your money.
Feb 09, 2004 Sheean link
Well you should first be able to atleast be able to fight all the bots in s4 with a (modified) bus, or maybe a centurion. Not only the simple bots, but also those 150-bounty bots. Then goto s8 and be able to take them out with a centurion, flee if there is more than 1 bot attacking you. (good way to learn howto flee, and it will save your ship.)

I'm getting really good at dogfighting.

What can I offer to Vendetta when I don't see any bugs? There are lots of things which need improvement, but I don't know what is known and what is not.
Feb 09, 2004 Durgia link
Everything needs improving and the devs know this...that is why the game is not for sale yet:)

As for bugs...they come around if you see one report it using the bug reporter.

Having players online just doing stuff tests things like stress levels and capacity numbers.

Today I died twice with some very good equipment, It costed me 20,000 credits alltogether. This was due to lag.

I was dogfighting... Then the ship I was attacking started floating away in the same unchanging direction. I was shooting at it but it didn't take damage... Then after the lag went away, my ship explode...

Another time I was dogfighting I noticed lag so I boosted myself out of there. 10 seconds later, I explode... :(

Lunitary, dude, don't forget 40-47 that adds another 7, wait, I guess you did add those...I HAVE NO CLUE!!!

20,000c ain't bad mate. Next time, lower your preferences to decrease lag, then buy a better craft with better gear. Fair warning, all ships eventually die, don't get too attached. (OH MY WAS MY LadyLuck TAKEN FROM ME, CRUEL WORLD!!) [Black 1 has had is flipout for the day, although he has reserved the right to have more]

Lag is a common problem during dogfights, specially when you have heavy repeating weapons like AGTs or Swarm Missiles since the FPS rate needs to go UP causing the computer to lag LOWERING FPS. Easy way to avoid it, avoid Swarm Launchers and AGTs if possible and lower your configuration to treat the problem.

If you think any lag here now is bad, you should've seen the past times, pre-resets when the current server was brand new and the lag was going to the point where you were at Max. Burn and weren't moving.

As for your dogfighting skills, if you own a Combat Flight Simulator, doesn't even need to be a full bore CFS-brand title just a combat sim. then run through it insanely. Also, a FlightStick or Joystick does wonders for a pilot who isn't good with a mouse, mice are slow. Get a stick.

Word on teh bugs: See one, report it. It doesn't matter whether they already know of it's existance, just the info. you provide bug reporting may crack the problem by letting them suddenly see the pattern and fix the code.

Some famous bugs are the ever popular (yeah, right!) Wingbug (Don't ask, I dont know the exact nature of this beauty, just that she's been with us a while), Moneybug (old gone, made us all millionaries in seconds during pre-reset, devs fixed it, now we poor poor pitiful souls), and Invisibility Bug (casues craft to dissappear, no signal on radar or anything, effected craft incapable of dock. Only reappears after user logs off and rejoins.)

On fighting again: Get a stock bus (EC-88, the free ship) and go play with the 250c bots, try dodging and once you've mastered that, try killing them with the bus.

The wing bug means that if a vulture rams into anything with its wings at any speed it explodes.

Here's the real question. Does the Test version of Vendetta have everything the Devs have created thus far?

I actually don't need a joystick, but I do need a better keyboard. I can't press R, E, and Q at the same time without getting computer beeps. Does anyone know what's with that? It's like I have a limited amount of buttons that function at the same time. Other 3 letter combinations work I think.

Another problem that's been plaguing me is the delay between sounds. It seems I have a 1 second delay of sound. I fire a weapon and I don't hear it till 1 second later. I move my mouse onto a button in the menu screen and it takes about 1 second for me to hear the bleep.
Feb 10, 2004 Forum Moderator link
The Test Version that players see is the production version. The developers have a pre-production server that includes the features they are currently working on.

The key press limit is a function of your keyboard.

The sound delay is certainly not standard. Please check that you have the latest drivers for your sound and graphics cards, check your ping by typing /ping and post in the "Bugs" forum if the problem persists.
Feb 10, 2004 Sheean link
If you use linux, kill all those evil sound daemons (esd, artsd, etc)
Feb 10, 2004 Argitoth link
The sound problem occurs in almost every game I play, it's definitely not lag or a video problem. I have Windows XP

What keyboard can I buy which doesn't have this limitation?
