MIRROR TOURNAMENT #2
Well, we had fun on the first one, now we're gonna try a second one. Slightly different format this time
Rules:
1. Each player is required to fight their selected opponent twice, once using each player's chosen layout. Layouts are restricted as follows:
A) In a Particular Matchup, no player may select a ship/weapon layout that the other player does not have access to.
A.1) No matchup is allowed which cannot deal at least thrice the damage of its own hull. (AKA no equipping a maud with a single iceflare). An energy weapon removes this restriction entirely.
A.2) You MUST inform eachother of your weapon/ship/battery choices BEFORE the fights begin, to prevent players from using the info to their advantage
B) Other than that, everything is good
2. Tournament is double elimination, with ties being fixed by a stock bus battle.
3. Tournament will take place over a few weeks. You are expected to schedule your own matches. A referee is recommended to allow accurate reporting.
3. Entry Fee is 500000 credits, with the prize breakdown being
50% of the funds for first, 25% for second, 10% for third. With 15% being alotted for Prizes for interesting matches.
4. Hopefully, if we can get a good program going, the fights can be videotaped. Those fights that ARE videotaped will compete for the "Brilliancy Prizes". (Akin to those that used to be given out during large scale Chess tournaments, for the best games)
5. NO FIGHT WILL BE CANCELLED ON ACCOUNT OF ANY STRANGE GAME RELATED FEATURES, UNLESS BOTH PARTIES AGREE, and have the approval of their Referee.
This means that you choose your time and place, and that's it.
I'm willing to allow for a server crash, but that's about the extent.

I'll try it out, but only if you change the double elimination rule. It's clear it is going to create problems (people getting more fights than others b/c some players have been elminated, etc). And I don't want to be elminated early either, give me my full money's worth.

I think the double elimination format is a good compromise. The only way the round robin could work would be to put a strict cap on the number of entries and deadlines for each round of fights.

It's supposed to be tough, and the fee is such that people should think twice about entering if they can't afford it. I don't think we'll lack for players.

Well I expect a long tournament for a 500K entrance fee, not just the 2 rounds I'm likely to get before I'm eliminated.
So drop me from the list for now, but I'll be happy to record any matches (only 30 seconds at a time with Fraps Trial though).
