Tumblemonster Captured by The Vipers
For Immediate Release:
Acting on information gleaned from multiple sources, The Vipers' Internal Security Force began an investigation into the background and activities of the pilot "Impavid", a recent addition to the Vipers' ranks who had already gained a reputation for decisive action against piracy. His natural affinity for combat made him a valuable asset, and a respected member of the Air Wing. His initial training was conducted by Lt. Nerde Verde and Councillor Strat. Research indicated gaps and alterations in his personal records that had been made recently, in an attempt to further disguise his true origins. This suspicious activity, coupled with observed changes in behavior in recent weeks, warranted a close watch being placed on Impavid.
A series of transmissions to certain individuals with close ties to the Corvus crime syndicate, traced back to his personal transponder ID, revealed the extent of his clandestine machinations. Rumors and news stories from certain disreputable sources in Grey Space had already begin circulating, evidently forcing him to rush these last few transmissions and blow his cover earlier than planned. An immediate port lock was placed on his ships, and security forces throughout the system were alerted, forcing him to go into hiding in the halls of the Latos N-2 mining platform.
--The Escape--
At approximately 9:00PM Galactic Standard Time on June 22nd, 4435, Impavid subverted dock controls and attempted to make his way to Corvus-controlled space. He was quickly pursued by Lts. Nerde Verde and Millennium Blackhawk, Councillor Strat and Recruit Skip. His escape from the Latos system was blocked off, and after taking heavy fire, his Valkyrie was shot down by Nerde Verde. Impavid was recovered unharmed in his escape pod, which was quickly secured using a jury-rigged equipment locker.
While attempting to transport Impavid back to Viper HQ for detainment, the group was attacked by multiple pirates. Lt. Nerde Verde was shot down while attempting to break a hasty blockade in the Azek system. The prisoner was recovered by Lt. Millennium Blackhawk, who was attacked multiple times en route to Headquarters. He was caught by none other than MysticRogue, a high-ranking member of the CLM. She attempted to flee back to Grey Space, closely pursued by our UIT Strike Forces and our pilots.
Shortly after reaching Latos, an unaffiliated pirate, known only as Yukimaru, attacked MysticRogue, recovered the prisoner, and fled to Ukari. Taking advantage of several storms in the area, he was able to escape pursuit. Impavid's status was unknown, until Yukimaru revealed that he had sold the escape pod back to MysticRogue. With the prisoner once again in CLM hands, The Vipers resumed their hunt in Latos.
MysticRogue was soon tracked to a distant corner of Latos. Strat attempted to prevent her from escaping with the prisoner once more, while the rest of the Viper flight kept the other pirates occupied. While Strat was unable to defeat MysticRogue, he caused heavy damage to her ship, preventing her from continuing her escape. A multi-pronged assault on her position kept the escape pod out of the hands of waiting pilots. Strat finished off what remained of MysticRogue's armor while Skip was able to break off from the battle and return Impavid to VPR custody.
--Impavid Captured--
Strat, having a very personal interest in the operation, volunteered to transport Impavid to Headquarters for detainment. Again, Nerde Verde, Millennium Blackhawk and Skip engaged pirate forces in Latos H2, where a blockade had taken shape. This proved to be a large enough distraction that Strat was able to slip out of the Latos system through Ukari, and made it safely back to Headquarters in UIT space before his absence at the battle was noted.
Impavid is now safely imprisoned at VPR Headquarters, where he is to be questioned about recent events in Grey Space that he has been attempting to manipulate.
During processing in the Brig, he revealed that his plans had been concluded with his transmissions to Corvus, though that information leaked onto the galactic newsnet sooner than expected. The story was first picked up by Corvus News Network, a sensationalist tabloid with close ties to the Grey Space underworld, and broadcast as widely as possible. However, the accuracy of those reports is in question. It is not known how much of the reporting was speculation on the part of CNN's often imaginative writing staff, and how much was deliberate misinformation.
What is true, which the galaxy at large has heard already, is that "Impavid" is none other than the infamous criminal mastermind known as "tumblemonster". His list of crimes ranges from the violent to the bizarre, including, but not limited to:
* Murder
* Piracy
* Impersonating an officer
* Multiple unpaid NFZ Violations
* Aggravated Philanthropy
* Illegal use of an Atlas
* Trafficking in regulated munitions
* Attempted Identity Coercion
* Operating a protection scheme without a permit
* Attempted Galactic Domination
Concurrent with his arrest, a portion of tumblemonster's considerable assets, along with his personal effects, were seized by The Vipers to prevent their use in any further plots to destabilize or disrupt trade. VPR agents cataloged the following items of note:
* 100 Million Credits
* A small, well-worn blanket. Embroidered on it is the word "a1k0n"
At the loss of the credits, tumblemonster showed no hint of emotion. He later stated that his assets had been carefully divided, and that the majority of his fortunes were already in CLM hands. However, upon seeing the blanket folded up into a plastic bag and taken to the evidence locker, his hardened air of calculated megalomania and psychosis cracked. He has been observed alternately pacing the length of his cell and withdrawing into a corner, repeating disjointed phrases such as "...get it back. can't have my pelt..." Perhaps it was not until then that he realized the enormity of the charges facing him or the nature of solitary confinement, we are not yet sure. Continuous monitoring of his mental and physical state is in effect, and a psychiatric evaluation has been ordered.
The Vipers mourn the loss of a friend and ally, even as we celebrate the capture of a dangerous adversary. Strat has felt this betrayal more than most, having at one time been trained in combat by tumblemonster while he was a fledgling pilot. Though tumblemonster was attempting to guide Strat towards piracy, he actually pushed him towards joining The Vipers. When Impavid became a recruit, it was none other than Strat who often guided him through his training flights.
The Vipers also congratulate Skip, who proved his valor and determination during the action earlier today, and has earned his Trainee's wings.

"You didnt let him down Myst, you were outmanned at the time." yoda said as he came in behind her. She hadnt even heard him enter the room, a circumstance that could be deadly in her profession. "Outmanned or not, there had to be a way..."
"Tumble would be the first to tell you that you did all you could at the time, we will get him free, dont worry, CLM has never lost a pilot to the Vipers for long" he interupted her, handing her a glass."So just relax, get yourself together and we will figure out the best course of action".
