This 21st Century development was a natural evolution of the 20th Century belief that a picture was worth a thousand words, combined with the 21st Century development of the "TL;DR" mindset. The result was to make image captions as minimal as possible to avoid compounding their inherent verbosity.

i maintain my scout reports are factual and accurate. In the absence of that, they provide the reader with evidence to make their own determination. Whereas the catchy pictures with ten words or less simply tell people what to think. It's a sad commentary on the direction of our society.
