Pro tip: if you ever find that you're in a dick measuring contest, you've already lost.

Sometimes it's very good to run from a bear:

[Several joke images in a row were removed. We can let some past if they are mostly relevant, but this was ridiculous. Take it up with Incarnate if you have any further thoughts.]

"Message Deletes - If you post a message that's just an attack on someone else, or is just re-raising the same melodrama that has already been locked elsewhere, or some other content that really has no value.. the Admin may just delete your entire post. If so, pay attention. Don't do that again. People who keep creating problems that require administrative action will become unwelcome."

Whistler, may I ask what was so offensive with a Dr. Strangelove 'Be optimistic' movie quote and a pic of Peter Sellers from that movie that it had to be removed?
Feb 03, 2016 Dr. Lecter link
You're presuming to judge what otherwise innocuous posts about bears--in a thread involving posts by a character RPing a :censored:ing bear--have "no [RP] value"?

I'm not wasting Inc.'s time with this, nor will I repost the images here - but you're either hurting for something useful to do, or have some unresolved personal problems that are leaking into your decisions here. Here's your LeberMac medal, champ.
Feb 03, 2016 Whistler link
Bojan, please see the text I underlined. Obviously there was nothing offensive.
Lecter: Yes, presuming. Great that you won't bother Incarnate.

OK Whistler so you as a moderator are the judge and jury if some content has or has not any value in the thread?

My posted meme was directly related to the part of the discussion related to TU mines use in VO and DR. Stragelove quote was my comment on that.

The complete title of the movie is: " Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" and the quote I posted responds quite nicely to the course this thread was headed to.

Deciding to delete content I posted in this thread is like deciding vowels have no value in RP threads so you remove all vowels from all RP posts.

I think you are going too far.
Next step will probably be to remove all comments containing 'lol' responses since they obviously have no value to any RP thread.

I'm offended by Greenwall's "lol" post. Please moderate it.

In all seriousness, the "bear" images posted could offend others if they are familiar with the meme represented, so while I found them amusing, I understand why they were removed. That being said, I think we are getting a little too overzealous in our crackdown of forum moderation.

I can read. I'm saying that cracking down on good natured ribbing that's relevant to the discussion at hand is perhaps a bit too heavy handed. I'm not going to debate it, I'm just voicing my opinion. Take it for whatever you feel it's worth.

You are of course free to thread mute me, but that would similarly be a heavy handed approach to my comments which are entirely civil and respectable. So I'm not sure what you're really hoping I'll take away from the link you provided except to intimidate me into silence on the comments you are making in the thread?

My comment was an attempt to talk to you, person to person, as I have no way to contact you directly outside the forums and don't really feel this discussion warrants a complaint in a ticket. I also think you largely do a very good job, so it's kind of silly to raise a support ticket tying up dev resources while we have a dialogue going here. If you don't agree with me, ignore me.

I expected push back regarding Inc's new rules, so we might as well do this here and get on with it.

Savet, I understand that you think I was responding only to you because my post directly followed yours. I was responding in general to all the inquiries - not specifically to you. As you can see, I did not thread mute anyone, nor have I threatened to. We're wide open for respectful discourse.

All: I supplied the link to Inc's post because it provides instructions for users and moderators alike. I wish it were more specific in some spots, but we're dealing with people and so some slack is inherent.

Ya, I got the Strangelove joke and left it up. I also left the screaming child up. Unfortunately this seemed to trigger a string of images getting further and further away from the topic - so I dropped them back to the last on-topic post. I felt it was clearer to explain that they were all off-topic than to parse why the Strangelove kinda maybe was vaguely on topic. I made a judgement call, which is what I've been asked to do. Again, the reason was off-topicness, not offensiveness.

I get that people are not happy being censored, but get some perspective: these are images people found someplace and reposted on a privately owned website.

I really couldn't possibly care less if people use profanity or spew all over the forums - but I do care about the devs working on the game. The goal is to move toward a more professional forum experience, and to keep Incarnate from having to direct forum traffic.

In all seriousness, the "bear" images posted could offend others if they are familiar with the meme represented, so while I found them amusing, I understand why they were removed.

Except that our very own Justice Potter Stewart has confirmed that's not why they were removed. He instead just decided they were off topic and of no particular value, so let's delete them even if they're not actually objectionable in any way.

I get that people are not happy being censored, but get some perspective: these are images people found someplace and reposted on a privately owned website.

Nobody's saying we have some kind of right not to moderated in this way - we're saying in this particular instance a drunk monkey could do a more rational job than you have. But as you've pointed out, this is not a democracy and it's your call.

Unfortunately, your continuing to make piss-poor calls is 100% more likely to distract the Devs attention than the images you moderated in this thread.

The goal is to move toward a more professional forum experience, and to keep Incarnate from having to direct forum traffic.

Your conduct in this specific thread has advanced neither of those goals.

Correct!

I ignored one, but when there are a bunch in a row it's too much to ignore.

/edit: Lecter added to his post since I responded. For the sake of clarity, my response was only to:

I would ask then why we allow images to be posted on the RP forum if the use of images to make a comment is going to be moderated. Sometimes the best way to make a point is with an amusing image and accompanying caption.
Feb 04, 2016 Dr. Lecter link
If your point was deemed of no value, it is apparently properly deleted. That it was non-offensive, not a personal attack, and was admittedly relevant to the RP discussion going on is of absolutely no moment.

Whistler will decide what has value, even here in RP, where unlike Suggestions value to the discussion is far more subjective. Papieren, bitte!
