Faction and BP

Jun 20, 2005 DragonEmpire link
Now that the BP has come along, the time has come to re-adress the faction system and it's problem.

The problem with this is if you're Serco, and in Itani space, ALL Serco (except trader bots, don't know why) are red on the radar, which gets VERY annoying when trying to target the closest enemy. (I'm sure the same thing happens to Itani when they're in Serco space.)

It's not urgent, but I'm sure everyone would agree with me that it needs to be fixed.

I would just love a Hostile list that modifes the radar to change them to red always for you and you alone.

Like a frinds list but then a most hated or always hostile. Would stop me from being unable to target some of those annoying little uits :D that come popping up on me from the back.

ah, i see.
There are currently 3 checks done to determine whether someone is red or green:
- their standing towards your nation
- your standing towards their nation
- their standing towards the faction that is in control of the sector.
If any of these 3 are < -600 then they show up red.

My suggestion would be to change it so it only makes the third check if you are in good standing with the faction that controls the sector you're in. That way, two ships in Itani space would appear green to each other if they are both <-600 Itani, unless they had <-600 on one of the other checks.

A /iff command to specify whether someone is a friend or a foe (Rene's "Hostile list") is something else that I think would be very useful. CrippledPidgeon mentioned it in a suggestions thread about Targeting Controls: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/10538

This would heighten the desire for Deneb to become a blue/red system. It really seems to be contested space, so it should behave rules similar to gray space, but just be indicated differently on the map.

/me looks for his suggestion that was utterly ignored way back when.

Ah, here it is:

And for those of you who want a concise summary:

TARGETING: If friendly fire really works as someone once described it to me, (the reverse of StarTrek: all Itanis use the same weapon and shield frequencies or something like that), then you should be able to set who's frequency you want to use when you feel like it. What I'm saying is we should be able to turn on or off
a) red or green color
b) friendly fire, (ie whether YOU can hit someone, but NOT whether they can hit you.)
FOR
a) specific nations, (players KOS with their nation wouldn't count)
b) guilds
c) individual players
d) groups

CTC: I'm a -1000 KOS Itani. I have +999 Serco standing, and they won't let me
bring ctc cargo to Catequil even though I regularly protect the Serco and attack the Itani transports. But no, the Serco refuse the cargo and tell me to bring it their and my mutual enemies.

P.S. I wonder if my suggestions will be ignored here also.

This is not a bug. This is how traitors are treated everywhere >:)

Person: Suggestions are never ignored here. There may be long periods of head scratching or bull sessions about them and results of those might not get posted but every suggestion is read by the Devs and considered.

Some suggestions, like this one, go to the core of the game's coding and it may just be an item put on the back burner for someone to find enough time to go in and get dirty implementing it.

And, your post is only 16 days old.

The devs do read all of the Suggestion threads, though they can't always read them right away and they certainly can't implement or reply to all of them.

Even if they could leave a simple "okay I read this" post to every thread, it would generate questions about when/if/why/why not? that the devs would be expected to answer. Rest assured that the dev team DOES listen to feedback. I point to the many suggestions that have been integrated into the game as evidence.
