I'm betting Windows, running the 9x kernel, using an older nVidia card, IE orig geforce/DDR

my box also does this when trying to run Tomb Raider, the latest one. I cant figure it out, can a program force a computer to restart?

In Win9X/ME a program can. It can't in NT/2k/XP though. The best it could do is BSOD but that's mainly only if there's a bug in the os/drivers.

Do other 3d games work? Maybe your gfx card is broken and, like, turns off if it gets a DirectX call made to it...

yea, i play my COD(yum) all the time and it works fine with no probs... and vendetta gives no problems untill i exit in the very frist menu screen with the play button and the options button and the info button

edit: COD for anyone that does not know is Call of Duty, which is one of the best first-person shootes for the comp i have seen...

Darthmonkeyman, it's good to see you decided to come here for help rather than bug me about it in school; you know I can't help you with this stuff.

Might he need new drivers for his Radeon?

Try to update your Radeon drivers to the most recent version of you haven't already.

Maybe Vendetta is overheating your card?

I had this problem with an ATI card that had old drivers. Caused some memory thing to go screwy and it would reset randomly if I had Vendetta open. New Drivers are wonderful tho.

crud happened again at about mid day today... when i tried to quit the program my computer restarted.. and the sign which occurs everytime is that my screen flashes and gets kinda glitchy. While i am loggin out out nothing happens however as soon as i am at the last step in exiting venetta, and press exit then the computer freezes up for a second and then restarts.. anyone have any advice and/or insight to this situation?

sounds like something's overheating. Not Vendetta's fault...

Overheating problems can be tricky to diagnose. Try playing with the computer's cover off. While you're at it, vacuum off the cards (make sure the power is off and ground the chassis with your hand the entire time - rushing air is a source of static electricity).

Please don't post in Bugs unless you have a bug or a solution. There are PCI versions of Radeon cards. He described "a pretty good radion graphics card".

Is it only vendetta crashing? It could also be bad RAM...

Try Running tests, such as Prime 95 (google it), and Memtest86. I doubt you have a Vendetta problem.

As for overheating, I don't think it would cause instant crashing without the screen artifacting (at the least...).
Apr 20, 2004 Eldrad link
Wait, if it's happening after a given action as he's saying (while he's logging out) then it's not an over heating problem which would happen after a period of time and would have no correlation to logging out.
Apr 20, 2004 Forum Moderator link
It sounds as if he IS describing some artifacting, and an overheated or underpowered card is more likely to act up when changing modes.

However:

Darth,

You don't say which Radeon card you have (and please do specify) but this is a known issue for Radeon 7* and 9* cards - not just for Vendetta but in general - and appears to be more likely with AMD processors. The suggested fixes are:
-Upgrade to latest drivers
-Cool the system (for now, take the case off, etc. as mentioned above)
-Switch your graphics card to another slot if possible
-Verify that your power supply is at least 350w

Please try at least the first two and report back.
